Story
Lord Bruzer is a classic Miniature American Shepherd, with a blue merle coat and soulful blue eyes. He has matured from a frisky, high-energy young pup into a generally easy-going and sedate senior dog. He is friendly, enjoys a good head-scratch, and will flop on the couch next to you. Nowadays he'll get all excited about a run outside and do a fast circle around the big yard with his brother, Sir Dude -- and then happily come back inside and flop down for a well-deserved nap! He spends a lot of his day either chewing on one of his favorite Kong toys or splayed out on the couch, dog bed or rug blissfully enjoying a nap. When there is cooking going on in the kitchen or dinner at the table, he'll hang about hoping for something to get dropped! He's generally curious about visitors or unusual human activities and will trot over to take a look. His ideal home would be a house with a yard with his brother, Sir Dude - the two grew up together and have never been separated.

Story
Benny is a 2yr old Staffordshire Terrier. He is pure personality, a goofy, high-energy guy with a curious streak, always ready to explore, chase a new smell, or proudly show off the stick he just found. If you love a dog with enthusiasm and a wiggle butt, Benny delivers. This boy thrives on activity and stimulation. Walks, playtime, and exploration are favorites. He will do best with someone who has time and energy for him. He is more than happy to settle down and hang out after a day of fun. Benny is potty trained, crate trained, has experience with an e-collar, and gets along with a female dog - could do well with the right dog companion. He can be a bit anxious when faced with new situations. He will need a patient and confident owner that helps him feel safe and confident. He also has some resource guarding tendencies (food, toys). - Adult only home needed. Rehoming Benny is not an easy decision. Due to a change in living situation finding him the right match is top priority.

Story
Meet your future personal trainer, backyard explorer, and full-time goofball—all wrapped into one very handsome tri-colored hound mix.At just a year and a half old, he’s basically a teenager who somehow skipped school and went straight to recess. His previous routine mostly involved enthusiastically existing in a haome and yard, so now he’s ready to branch out into exciting new subjects like Walks, Adventures, and Advanced Sniffing Techniques. He’s energetic, incredibly sweet, and always ready for fun, with a playful, curious personality that’s just waiting for the chance to shine. He’s lived with a small dog before and did well—more “big, bouncy buddy” than troublemaker. He’s crate trained, comes when called, and can be safely contained in a 6-foot wooden fenced yard, so no surprise escape artist tendencies. He will need some leash walking lessons, as this whole “going places with humans” thing is still new to him. Think of it less as a problem and more as an opportunity to train/bond—and possibly get a good arm workout in the process.Right now, he’s also beginning a very important personal journey: his weight loss era. Due to a lack of exercise in his previous home, he’s a little on the fluffy side, but he’s more than ready to swap extra snacks for hikes, playtime, and discovering that the world exists beyond the backyard fence. He didn’t get the time, attention, or outings he needed before, which just means there’s a lot of untapped potential packed into this happy, wiggly dog. With the right home, he’s going to blossom into an amazing companion. He’s looking for an active household that can give him regular exercise, mental stimulation, and a bit of guidance as he learns how to be the well-rounded dog he was always meant to be. If you’re ready for a sweet, adventurous, slightly goofy sidekick who will keep life interesting and keep you moving, he’s ready to meet you.April 28, 2026, 5:14 pm

Story
Notes from a volunteer on Osiris:I’m going to try and be unbiased here with my thoughts and observations....Some background: I’ a volunteer at the animal shelter here in Meyers and over the past few months, I have probably spent 35+ hours with Osiris. He very quickly became a favorite. When I learned he was a fence jumper and couldn't “just” be let out in the yard to play and get some time out of his enclosure, I started showing up right before lunch so that I could take Osiris for an hour+ long walk. We started on the normal 5 foot leash and I ultimately extended that with another leash. This past week I have had him on a 50’ lead on all our walks. Our walks have ranged from 2 miles in the beginning to 7 miles more recently. We’ ve been on trails, paved roads, at the beach, at parks, even at a bar patio.Osiris is incredibly smart. He is great with commands. He will come at a whistle. He is intelligent enough to “unwind” himself when he’s leash-tangled. He is alert, engaging, goofy and lovable. He will play bow, get the zoomies, romp through the snow, wade into the water, chew on sticks and frankly behaves like an ideal companion. He loves to hang his head out the window of a moving car, does seem used to sitting in the front seat (but I didn’t allow that) and also loves to just hang out and sleep in the sun, or anywhere nearby.I have seen him drop down and give up his belly for rubs on multiple occasions and with total strangers. One time on the patio of a local restaurant/bar and another while out on a trail. He loves his belly rubs.I have seen him around small children, sledding and screaming, and he was engaging and licked their faces. Clearly, people aren’t the issue! I have never seen Osiris have any issues with anyone. As for other dogs, I have seen Osiris interact positively with dogs on and off leash. Within the last two weeks Osiris interacted positively with another shelter dog that was recently adopted. I unknowingly bumped into them while I had him out on a walk and they did great. I can recall at least 7 interactions with other dogs that were not on a leash, while he was, and they were all positive. Just this week, there was a 12 yr old dog that Osiris engaged with where the other dog wasn’t on a leash. The two dogs said their dog hellos and romped a little and when the sr dog had enough, he gruffed at Osiris and Osiris backed off. No issue at all. I filed that away because it is really good to see the respect he showed the other dog. And, until very recently, I would say that he has interacted well with dogs of all sizes. He seems to be getting very kennel stressed and frustrated as most intelligent working dog's do when they are housed in kennel's in stressful shelter environments. One time recently, there was a female whippet in a pink coat and while I was wondering if he would see her as prey, he had no issues with her at all. 'However, he may have a dislike for puppies as some dogs do.'I have also seen his prey drive. He has gone bonkers over squirrels. But, when he was at the end of the leash, he didn’ t pull harder, or even make me struggle. I called him back with a treat and we moved on. He did alert to the presence of chickens when we were on a walk. There is a house on one of our loops and one morning you could hear the chickens clucking away. He was incredibly interested, gazing intently towards the house and the sounds. He didn't pull me that direction, but he was definitely very aware. (He has killed chickens in the past so he is not to be homed with chickens). He will chase birds when he see a flicker or other bird in the forest. Nor have I seen him fixate on the cats at the shelter when he is in the lobby, which one might expect. (Due to his prey drive with chickens it is not recommended that he lives with cats) Although, honestly, I think he is just so smart that he understands they are behind a wall and thus, he isn’t interested. I have three cats and I did bring him to my house, to a room where the cats often hang out, but weren’t there when Osiris came. He came into that space, modestly sniffed about and that was it. There wasn’ t any significant interest - not event in their cat hammock where they regularly sleep and hang out. He just wasn't that interested. If you are interested in adopting Osiris please come to the shelter for a meet and greet and see for yourself what an amazing dog Osiris is. April 28, 2026, 5:14 pm
