Story
Meet Oscar! He is an incredibly resilient 9-year-old whose determination shines through every single day. When Oscar came to SBR, he had lost the use of his back legs. His family loved him very much but made the heartbreaking decision to surrender him because they could no longer afford the specialized medical care he needed. Just two days after arriving at SBR, Oscar underwent spinal surgery. While the neurologist repaired what could be addressed, much of what was discovered were chronic, long-standing changes to his spine. His journey isn't over, but it is filled with hope. Oscar has begun physical therapy and is working hard to learn to walk again. His neurological team is optimistic that he will regain the ability to walk, although his gait will likely never be completely normal. If you've ever met a determined basset, you'll understand Oscar perfectly—he's stubborn in all the best ways and refuses to let anything slow him down! Despite everything he's been through, Oscar remains one of the sweetest boys you'll ever meet. He gets along well with his foster sisters (as long as they don't come racing past him!), absolutely loves squeaky toys, and still tries his best to "chase" the lizards that visit the patio. His joyful spirit and zest for life are truly inspiring. Oscar still has more medical care ahead of him, including a much-needed dental procedure and neuter surgery. For now, however, his focus—and ours—is helping him regain his mobility and continue making progress one step at a time. Oscar's story is one of resilience, perseverance, and hope. We can't wait to watch him continue proving that, with love, determination, and the right care, amazing things are possible.

Story
Meet Tiana & Daisy! These lovely 4-year-old girls may not be sisters, but they are a bonded pair who are very happy to be starting their next chapter as a team!Tiana and Daisy came to Suncoast Basset Rescue from a family whose day-to-day life had simply become too busy to give these girls the time and attention they needed. Now, they’re catching up on some much-needed rest, relaxation, and quiet time—and getting a fresh start together. Both girls are extremely sweet and adaptable, and they’re settling into foster care beautifully. They do have quite a bit of catching up to do on the medical front, including gaining some much-needed weight. In fact, each girl needs to approximately double her current weight, so we’re taking things slowly and making sure they get the nutrition and care they need to become happy and healthy. For now, life is pretty wonderful: comfy places to nap, plenty of good food, lots of attention and affection, and a foster family who is making sure these two know just how loved they are.

Story
Meet Murphy! Murphy is a handsome 4-year-old tri-color basset who's ready to get started on his next great adventure! This friendly guy is the kind of basset who seems to get along with just about everyone. He's good with dogs, cats, and kids, making him a pretty versatile fellow. He enjoys having canine companions around, but he's also perfectly happy to be the one-and-only dog. Right now, Murphy has a little catching up to do on the medical front, so he'll be spending some time getting his health care up to speed. In the meantime, he's getting exactly what every basset deserves: plenty of attention, affection, comfy places to nap, and lots of love from his foster family.

Story
Meet Leia! We welcome two very special girls back to the Suncoast Basset Rescue family. Sadie, a lovely bagel, and Leia, a beautiful basset hound, are both SBR alums who found their forever home several years ago. They are each approximately 9 years old.Sadly, their family's health challenges made it impossible for them to continue caring for the girls, so they reached back out to SBR. Of course, we were happy to step in and welcome Sadie and Leia back with open arms. These two full-figured ladies have a little catching up to do. They'll be getting some much-needed spa time, medical care, and a healthier eating plan to help them get back to their best selves. Fortunately, they've landed with a wonderful foster family who is ready to give them all the care, patience, and love they need.So far, Sadie and Leia are proving to be wonderfully mild-mannered girls who seem happy to go with the flow. They've lived together for several years, so we'd like to keep these two friends together if we can. We'll know more about what the future holds as they settle into foster care and we get to know them better.

Story
Meet Leroy! Leroy and his brother, Rufus had quite an interesting journey to SBR.They were abandoned in a rural, wooded area, where a Good Samaritan found them. When they realized the boys needed more care than they could provide, they took SBR up on our offer of help.Leroy & Rufus are definitely bonded littermates, and we estimate them to be approximately 2 years old. Although we are just getting acquainted, Rufus seems more confident and outgoing, while Leroy is a bit more reserved and calm. Both love to play with each other or toys and then snuggle up for a cozy rest.Next up is learning how to enjoy to the comforts of home life (and a few details like housetraining!) and getting in for some much-needed medical care.Leroy & Rufus took a circuitous path to a second chance, but they made it. Things are looking up from here on out!
