Story
Meet Norris! At just 4 months old, Norris is already showing what a smart and social pup he is. He would thrive in a forever home with an active, playful dog, as he absolutely loves having friends and playing with them. Norris enjoys being part of the action and is happiest when he has a buddy to romp around with. A securely fenced yard is required so he can safely run, explore, and burn off his puppy energy. This bright young boy already knows “sit,” will sit and wait politely for his food bowl, uses a doggie door, and has mastered using a ramp to get in and out of his foster mom’s bed — also known as the big dog bed. He sleeps snuggled up all night without accidents, and on the rare occasion he needs a midnight potty break, he will wake his foster mom to let her know.Norris is doing great with handling, is good for nail trims, and hasn’t shown any fear of thunderstorms. He is currently working on polishing his potty training and learning to take treats gently. He has also shown that he doesn’t need to be crated when his foster mom goes out, even for longer periods of time.Like many curious puppies, Norris is discovering the world around him — including the kitchen garbage can and the exciting possibility of counter surfing. His new family should be ready to stay one step ahead of this clever, growing pup. Norris is a sweet, affectionate, and playful youngster who is ready to bring fun, snuggles, and a little bit of puppy mischief to his forever home.

Story
Meet Roscoe! This gorgeous boy is estimated to be around 3–5 years old, and he not only has the looks, he has the sweetest personality too. Roscoe was found as a stray and ended up in a county shelter before Suncoast Basset Rescue got the call to help. While we are not exactly sure of his age, Roscoe definitely seems to be on the younger side. His teeth are in great shape, and he appears to be healthy and well cared for overall. Even better, he is a very good boy — well behaved, rides nicely in the car, and gets along well with kids and other dogs. At this time, we are not sure how he does with cats. Roscoe is handsome, sweet, and already showing everyone what a wonderful companion he is.

Story
Meet Leia. We don’t know much about her past, but we do know that her future is only going up from here. Leia is believed to be around 4 years old, and based on her condition, we suspect she may have had at least one litter of puppies. She arrived very, very thin, but we’re already working on getting some weight on her. The good news is she has a wonderful appetite and is happily cleaning up everything her foster mom is offering. Leia is absolutely beautiful and incredibly sweet, but she is also very scared and skittish. Quick movements, new people, and sudden noises can make her nervous. She can be extremely submissive, and we believe she likely hasn’t had much socialization in her short lifetime. Her foster mom is gently helping her learn that she is safe, building her confidence, and showing her that no one is going to hurt her. Despite her fears, Leia is great with other dogs and does very well on her walks. She clearly takes comfort from her canine friends, and because of this, she will need a home with another confident dog to help show her the way in this human world. A securely fenced yard will also be important so she can safely explore and continue building confidence at her own pace. Leia’s next steps include a full wellness exam with our vet, followed by getting her scheduled for her spay. With patience, love, and a calm environment, we know this sweet girl is going to blossom into a wonderful companion.

Story
Meet Madeleine (Maddy), a gentle and loving 12.5 year-old basset girl whose world recently changed in a big way. After spending her entire life with the only family she had ever known, Maddy was surrendered to SBR due to illness in the family. This sweet senior is understandably a little confused and heartbroken as she tries to adjust to all the changes around her. Even so, Maddy has been handling everything with quiet grace and kindness. Her foster family is giving her lots of love and reassurance while helping her understand that she is safe, secure, and cared for. Maddy may need a little time to fully settle in, but underneath it all is a loyal, affectionate girl who simply wants comfort, patience, and a soft place to land. We know that with love and stability, this precious senior will shine again.

Story
Meet Bucky! He is a very handsome 4-year-old boy looking for a home where he can relax and just be himself. He has been deeply loved since puppyhood, but as his family has grown and changed, it’s become clear that Bucky would be much happier in a quieter home without small children. Like many dogs, Bucky struggles with the unpredictability and fast movements of toddlers so his family made the difficult decision to surrender him to SBR. Bucky is wonderful with other dogs and even cats. He currently lives with both and gets along great with them. He especially enjoys having a large, fenced yard where he can explore and relax. He also walks fine on leash, although he can be a bit enthusiastic and pull at times. He can be cautious around strangers at first simply because he hasn’t had a lot of exposure to new people, so he may bark initially but once he has time to settle in and feel comfortable, he does just fine. And speaking of getting comfortable… Bucky is definitely settling into foster life! Recently, his foster mom turned her back for just a moment and Bucky quietly helped himself to an egg sandwich off the counter without making a single sound. As the saying goes: “Silence is golden… but silence with a basset hound is suspicious!” In the right environment, this sweet, funny boy has so much love and companionship to offer.

Story
Roscoe is an adorable 4-month-old bassador — a lovable mix of basset hound and labrador retriever. With his basset charm and goofy puppy energy, he’s the best of both worlds wrapped up in one very cute package. Roscoe originally came to us after a family brought him home hoping he would become the perfect companion for their resident basset. Unfortunately, they forgot to ask the resident basset for approval first! Sometimes personalities just don’t click, and when it became clear the match wasn’t right, they reached out to SBR for help finding Roscoe the forever home he deserves. Like any puppy, Roscoe has plenty of energy and curiosity. He’s currently working hard on his potty training and is already showing off how smart he is — he knows how to sit, lay down, and “leave it.” We’re pretty sure that eager-to-please lab side is shining through there. Who is ready for all the fun, training, adventures, and love that come with raising a puppy? In return, he promises lots of laughter, cuddles, and a lifetime of loyalty.
