Story
Kennedy is a unique and resilient pup who’s still figuring out how to trust. He’s had a rough start, but underneath his uncertainty is a dog who truly wants love—he just needs patience and the right approach. This chunky little guy is house-trained (no accidents here!) and crate-trained, settling in without complaint at night. He also does well in a playpen when left alone for short periods. He loves his toys, especially Nylabones and balls, but can be a little possessive with them. Kennedy enjoys being near his people - he follows them from room to room, wags his tail to show his feelings, and even gives kisses. However, he is very reactive to touch and can be unpredictable. He may ask for affection by bumping against you or jumping in your lap but then growl or snap when actually petted. He also has moments where he yelps for no apparent reason, whether he’s alone or being gently touched. Kennedy knows "come" and "sit", but treats (especially chicken!) help him stay engaged. He’s leash-reactive when it comes to putting it on or taking it off, especially around his neck, but once he’s walking, he does well - though 15 minutes is his max before he’s exhausted. He clearly has a history of being fed from the table and will wait at mealtime for a better offer- but don’t fall for it! He’s currently on a weight management diet and eats when he’s truly hungry. Kennedy needs an experienced, patient adopter who understands that trust takes time. His ideal home is one where: He can continue learning boundaries in a structured environment, touch and handling are approached with patience and care, he has a predictable routine and a safe space to retreat when needed, and he’s allowed to bond at his own pace - on his terms PLEASE NOTE: All your current pets must be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention to adopt from Polka Dogz. We only adopt in Florida. All adoption fees go to help all the dogs in the rescue, some of which require extensive medical care. Thank you for caring for the greater good. Story
Meet Devin, the 42-pound bundle of fun and affection! This 4-year-old hound mix has the agility of a spider monkey, the sharp smarts of an eagle, and the loyal heart of a lion. He’s a sweet, sillyheart who loves to cuddle up just as much as he enjoys playtime, and he’d be happiest in a home with another playful dog to be his buddy. Though Devin hasn’t met cats or kids yet, his friendly nature suggests he’d do well in a loving home environment. Healthy and full of life, Devin is ready to bring joy and laughter to his forever family! Story
Nearly 2-years old and yet the perfect mix of puppy earnest and mature calm. Canuck is as sweet as he is gorgeous. He trends shy but is very loving. He’s not too kissy and not too needy, yet so much wanting to be adored and doted upon. Canuck is 44 lbs, perfect for a lab lover hoping for a smaller, lighter version. Onyx is super well-behaved, enjoys other dogs—running and playing and gentle Greco-Roman wrestling). Probably good with cats and kids, although not tested with either. He is wonderful through and through. There aren’t enough great things to say about him. Story
Phyl (16 lbs) and Mena (21 lbs) are a bonded pair of 10-year-old poodle mixes looking for a forever home together. These two are the definition of companionship - they do everything side by side and love nothing more than snuggling up on the couch together. Phyl has cataracts in both eyes and is mostly blind, but that doesn’t slow him down! He gets around just fine with a little guidance, and Mena is always by his side. They are both house-trained when let out regularly and are crate trained, though Phyl may need a little help finding his way to the crate. Mena is a little on the fluffy side and could benefit from shedding a few pounds, but that just means there’s more of her to love! These two are incredibly sweet, laid-back, and would make wonderful companions for a calm, loving home. Story
Meet Hollywood, an adorable 1 year old Terrier mix with a heart full of love. This sweet little shadow will follow you everywhere, always eager to be by your side. Hollywood has some congenital abnormalities with his vertebrae, including fused segments, but that doesn’t stop him from getting around and enjoying life to the fullest. Despite his condition, he’s a playful puppy who loves to romp around and have fun, but he’s also a cuddle bug who adores napping on you. Hollywood will need to wear a diaper for the rest of his life, but his joyful spirit and affectionate nature more than make up for it. If you’re looking for a devoted and playful companion who’s ready to fill your life with love, Hollywood is your guy!
