Meet COOPER, an almost 5 year old Siberian Husky who found himself at the Harrison County Dog Pound in Cadiz, OH when his family could no longer care for him. His world may have changed, but COOPER is trying not to let it affect that big Husky smile or his rather impressive opinion of himself. COOPER lived with a little child and was very good with and tolerant of him. Like any respectable gentleman, he does have his limits, though, and when the small human exceeded COOPERs daily allotment of nonsense, hed give a bark to say the days festivities needed to come to a conclusion. COOPER loves cats, maybe too enthusiastically for some felines since he enjoys chasing them to play, unaware that some cats dont appreciate a recreational activity that includes being chased by a big Siberian Husky. When it comes to other dogs, COOPER does better with calm canines who dont have to run the show. The crown in COOPERs imaginary kingdom fits his head perfectly so why should he share it? A meetngreet with your dog will be necessary. With people, COOPER is a social butterfly. He loves making new friends. No reason to be aloof if it means there are more humans to shower him with attention. COOPER does seem to suffer a bit from a breed identity crisis. Someone might have to explain to him that hes a Husky, not a Beagle. Put that nose to the ground and hell sniff, follow, and investigate every last scent as if he was hired by the FBIs Canine Forensics Unit. COOPER is energetic and strong, and loves to run. A 4 foot fence is less of a barrier and more of a minor inconvenience. He can scale one with ease, so his future family needs to make sure he will have a secure way to enjoy the outdoors. We read on a Facebook post that little PUMPKIN simply “waltzed” into a home in Hopedale and apparently decided she wanted to stay. Whether she actually “waltzed” in with that much confidence is debatable, because we’ve found that PUMPKIN can be a little frightened when meeting someone new. But give this girl a little time to decide you’re worthy of her affection, and prepare yourself because once PUMPKIN loves you, her whole universe revolves around you. PUMPKIN is the quintessential lap dog. If you have a lap, she would like to occupy it…for hours. At some point, you’ll need to get up and actually accomplish something. No worries because PUMPKIN has it figured out. Just tuck her under one arm and continue about your business with the other. She’s happy to be carried around like the royalty she thinks she is. She can stand up and dance for attention and treats. Evidently being adorable wasn’t enough. She also is talented. PUMPKIN doesn’t have access to a doggy door in her kennel, yet she keeps hers clean, which leads us to believe she’s got some house training under her belt. She also doesn’t seem particularly bothered or concerned when other dogs come up to her kennel to say hi, but a meetngreet with yours will be necessary. One thing potential adopters should know: we were told by the people who brought her as a stray to the Harrison County Dog Pound in Cadiz, OH that PUMPKIN has tried to bite males. Since there are no men working at the pound, we haven’t been able to safely determine whether this behavior is consistent. What can be said about a dog who is as close to perfection as a dog can get? Well...quite a lot actually! Meet FREYA, a beautiful Great Dane/Pittie mix whose story tells you just about everything you need to know about the kind of dog she is. FREYA arrived at the Harrison County Dog Pound in Cadiz, OH as a stray, but she wasn’t alone. With her was her little 10 week old puppy. FREYA’s owner had reported her missing about 2 weeks earlier and said she’d already been gone for 2 weeks when he called. He never mentioned a puppy because he assumed the little girl hadn’t survived. But he clearly underestimated FREYA. Somewhere out there, while she was lost and on her own, this mama did exactly what a good mother does: she kept her baby safe. Through whatever those weeks brought, hunger, weather, strange places, and who knows what else, FREYA protected her puppy until the two of them made it to the pound. Their stray holds were up last week, and though the owner knew where they were and said he was coming for them, he never did, so the little girl was adopted. Now it’s Mama FREYA’s turn. And whoever adopts her is getting one heck of a dog. FREYA is about 3 years old. She has the grace of a Dane, the bark of a Dane and a long tail with the cute Dane flip at the end of it. She may be a mix of 2 breeds, but we’re pretty sure she’s 100 percent pure perfection. FREYA doesn’t need a whole lot to be happy. She just wants to be with you. Going for a walk? She’s coming too. Going for a car ride? Move over, because she’s a great passenger. Hanging around the house? She’s game. Doing absolutely nothing? Perfect. FREYA is good at that too. And if you ask her a question, she’ll answer, but what she’s actually saying is between FREYA and FREYA, so you’ll have to polish up your translation skills. She loves kids and other dogs. She’s housebroken, well-behaved, knows some commands, and simply loves the company of her people. FREYA spent weeks making sure her little girl survived. She did her job. Her puppy is safe.
