Story
Sweet Phoebe.  She so desperately wants to be brave and is making great progress in her foster home in Colorado Springs.  We know that her inquisitive spirit will win in the end, she just needs a litte more time to find her courage.  Phoebe gets along well with other dogs and is house trained.  She loves to chew on bones and can often be found "snuggling" with her foster mom's socks or shoes. She sleeps quietly on her dog bed at night and is leash trained. Pheebs doesn't mind hanging out in her crate for a little while but really prefers to be near the human of her choice.  Phoebe is looking for a quiet adult only (older teenagers ok) household, preferably someone working from home who will allow her the time to come out of her shell.  We promise it will be worth it! ##2084023##

Story
Hello, I'm Mo! I'm the sweetest, friendliest, most curious and smartest dog you'll ever meet. My sidekick, Banzai, and I ended up here after a hilarious mix-up at the park. You see, we mistook the animal control van for the ice cream truck! We chased it all the way here and well, the rest is history. We've been making the best of our situation, causing laughter and spreading joy. If you're looking for a friend that can turn any situation into a comedy sketch, I'm your dogs. Adopt me, and let's create our own sitcom! If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to request an appointment to meet me. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and Minneapolis, MN areas twice a month. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual and we will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veteinarian ($35). Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! ##2032005##

Story
Daisy, great pyrenees, female, 9 yo, 95 lbSweet Daisy was surrendered by the breeder because she was not fit for breeding any more. She spent her life in a kennel with a dog run and was quite cautious at first to go cross country in our big yard. Now she enjoys the freedom to run and the smell of rain and grass. Good with dogs. She is super sweet, calm and a little shy at first. She would love to be part of a family at last. She is our favorite and brings lots of joy to everyone she meets! Daisy needs a fenced yard with least 5' tall fence as she can run very fast and far. Adoption fee $325. If interested, please submit an adoption or foster application at https://www.sanNicolaDogRescue.comJuly 20, 2024, 12:07 pm

Story
Meet Clyde - he is about 15 months old, he is a big, beautiful guy (140 pounds), with a calm demeanor and a gentle soul. While he was bred to be a livestock guardian dog, the owner's ended up not having livestock, and brought him to live inside but Clyde had his rein over a 35-acre farm during the day. As such, he's not a true farm dog but will want land/space to roam and protect during the day. He loves snuggles and cuddles and is great with kids, cats and most other dogs.  We are working on him NOT climbing into laps, but you can see from the pics that's a work in progress!   Clyde does NOT do well with another male dog in the house - so we recommend he goes to a home as a single dog or with another female ONLY. His desire is to be a calm, quiet alpha male. He is potty trained, recently neutered and ready to find his forever home. His owners were forced to give him up as they were moving to the city unexpectedly for medical treatment. Clyde is not meant to be a city dog. To learn more about Clyde, his foster parent is available to talk about this special guy.  Put in an application at eapl.com His adoption fee is $375July 26, 2024, 4:44 pm

Story
Meet Heartly, a sweet pup who craves closeness and affection. Around here, she's friendly, happy and calm. `A true delight,` says one of her buddies. Heartly comes from a rural background. She was introduced to leash walking at DFL, and she took to it easily. We recommend an active owner for Heartly and a home where she's the only animal. She'll do best with older children.July 26, 2024, 11:13 am
