Please go to our website at www.milehighlabmission.com to find out more about this pet and to submit an adoption application.  Please DO NOT call or email us; all information about current dogs available, adoption donations, vetting, and this specific dog are on our website. We are a non-profit organization and we are completely 100% volunteer run. We DO NOT have a shelter and only approved applicants can make appointments with our foster homes to meet the dogs we have. Our volunteers will not discuss dogs we have available for adoption UNTIL you have an application on file and are approved to adopt."I like big dogs and I cannot lie" If you're singing this remix, you don't want to miss out on Kaya -- 86lbs of fluffy perfection! Personality | Kaya is a sweet and loving girl with a smile and soulful eyes that make anyone who meets her fall head over heels! She loves to be by your side and give you hugs! She will jump up on people, but in a gentle way without putting her full weight on you, so she doesn't knock you over! She's a typical large breed that doesn't realize she's a large breed. ;) Her foster family is teaching her that she doesn't get pets and attention when she jumps and she's learning what "down" means. She loves people and will let out happy whimpers when her foster family gets home. She has a lot of love to give to whoever is lucky enough to adopt her and clearly gets attached to her people quickly. :) Her breed is unknown, but she could easily be a purebred great pyr based on her beautiful white coat, giant size, and calm demeanor. Anyone interested should read up on the breed before adopting. Don't miss out on this amazing girl! Story | Rescued from a NM shelter.Other Dogs | She is friendly and playful with small dogs and large dogs. She prefers to be fed separate from other dogs. Cats | She is fostered with a cat. She loves the kitty and has been gentle with him. Children | Friendly! She's very calm and likes to calmly sit by her humans for pets. She's already eye level with most kids so she probably wouldn't jump on them and is calm enough that she likely wouldn't accidently knock any children down when excited. Her excitement usually comes in the form of getting right up next to you for pets! She's also been very tolerant of her foster mom bathing her and brushing out very matted hair, which means she likely will be very tolerant of little kids being in her space.Training | Kaya is a very intelligent dog. She is quickly learning basic commands like sit, down and stay. She sleeps through the night in the crate as long as the crate is in the bedroom where she can see you.Kaya hasn't been destructive at all and has done fine when left roaming the house alone for a few hours. She does like to counter surf (and can reach everything), but all she has grabbed from the counters are dishes to lick clean and hasn't chewed any of them up. She is the perfect motivator to wash the dishes instead of letting them sit in the sink! She will bark when she hears loud noises outside or someone knocks on the door, which is typical for her breed since they were bred to guard. Interested adopters should read up on the breed and understand their tendency to bark to scare away predators and protect their livestock (aka their humans)!Leash | She walks very well on the leash and it's usually a "loose leash." When she does occasionally pull, it isn't with her full strength. So far, she has never pulled hard enough where it's difficult to keep hold of the leash, despite her size! She walks much better on the leash then her much smaller foster brother and is mostly just happy to be by your side. She has not shown any reactivity on the leash towards other dogs, squirrels or people and probably would do just fine tagging along on hikes and to breweries! Activity Level  Low - medium. Great Pyrenees require regular exercise and mental stimulation. They are bred to protect livestock and are very loyal to their families. She has done well with a few 15-30 minute walks a day and mostly just wants to hang out by your side. She usually naps on the wood floor near the humans, probably because it's cooler then the dog bed with her thick coat! Health Notes | Healthy! She is up to date on vaccinations, spayed and heartworm negative! She has a beautiful, white coat and will need regular brushing to keep it from matting. She's very tolerant to getting groomed, even when brushing out sensitive spots. She was underweight at intake, but has a healthy appetite and is quickly getting where she needs to be. She hadn't been weighed recently, but she is probably heavier than 86 lbs now. Thank you! | Adoption Donations |  Our adoption donations are $475 for dogs 8 weeks to 1 year, $425 for 1-6 years, $375 for dogs 7-10 years, and $250 for 11+ years of age. Purebred dogs regardless of age are $525. These minimum donations help to defer the costs of initial vet care, food, and supplies while in foster care that currently average over $700 per dog).Meeting Dogs | Foster dogs may have meet & greets by appointment to approved applicants only.  To become an approved applicant - please complete the application process. Please know | Available dogs are updated as soon as possible and we do our best to keep it up-to-date, but occasionally dogs shown may become unavailable without notice due to a pending adoption. We encourage you to put in an application even if you don't see your new family member currently, as once you are approved, we can place you on the waiting list for first priority on the selection of the dogs we do bring in. That means you can often meet a dog upon transport arrival and adopt before they even make it to this page!We can not guarantee that a dog you wish to adopt is available by the time your adoption application is submitted, processed, and approved.  Your application is good for 90 days from the time of approval for any dog as long as it is a good fit for your family and your lifestyle. May 2, 2024, 4:11 pm

Story
Daisy, great pyrenees, female, 9 yo, 95 lbSweet Daisy was surrendered by the breeder because she was not fit for breeding any more. She spent her life in a kennel with a dog run and was quite cautious at first to go cross country in our big yard. Now she enjoys the freedom to run and the smell of rain and grass. Good with dogs. She is super sweet, calm and a little shy at first. She would love to be part of a family at last. She is our favorite and brings lots of joy to everyone she meets! Daisy needs a fenced yard with least 5' tall fence as she can run very fast and far. Adoption fee $325. If interested, please submit an adoption or foster application at https://www.sanNicolaDogRescue.comApril 22, 2024, 2:44 pm

Story
This cowboy is Paul ❤️ Paul moved in a few weeks ago after being dumped at pet cemetery with his siblings & a ball- A ball that we quickly learned was blocking his tummy. Surgery took place & with some recovery time Paul has really shown himself to be more than just good looks. He has been on neighborhood walks, social excursions in town, hikes, & fly fishing outings. While these activities hit a solid comfort zone for Paul, his willingness to participate is probably because he wants to be with his people & foster brother, Trout. Paul truly is one of the sweetest puppies ever to stay with us. He prefers to spend his time doing nice things with nice humans/dogs to have the nicest days. When Trout offers the regular activities (like chase & wrestle), Paul participates. He usually will not initiate. He only plays defense (no offense), which has the effect of quickly stalemating each match 😂. His preferred activities include; hikes, catching grasshoppers, unsuccessful rabbit & squirrel chases, nice naps next to his foster brother, eating good meals, running to the ice maker when heard, having a dedicated spot on the sofa & bed, touring the kitchen on food-smelling strolls and always having an eye on his foster mom. We expect foster puppies to have accidents, & needing a crate but Paul has already graduated from both. He is potty trained & although he is crate trained, he does not necessarily need one. He and Trout have been left alone up to 3.5 hours with zero issues (He is not a chewer). You may be wondering if Paul has any vices. He truly is the easiest pup I have ever fostered. He’s great around people (kids included), and walks with a loose leash. Paul does enjoy meeting new dogs, but doesn’t like a lot of dog commotion (ie hyper active dogs), but as he continues to gain more confidence, I believe this will subside. If you know someone with a social dog who would love to add another pup who is an extreme outlier on the sweetness scale, let them know about Paul. Paul is neutered, microchipped, & up to date on shots. His adoption fee is $350 to help cover his vetting.

Story
I can be present to assist with transitioning in the capacity of relationship building and/or training moving forward. I am willing to travel hours to the right location if needed. I have had Cudi for two years. I need to rehome him ASAP at this time due to behaviors coming back up- I have tried my best to work through everything, and I think the solution is a larger environment with property. He doesn't have behavioral issues in large outside spaces. Details further and I can provide full break downs upon serious inquiry. I am seeking AN ENVIRONMENT WITH A LARGE YARD OR PROPERTY. DETAILS: OK WITH DOGS AND PEOPLE WITH SLOW, PROPER INTRODUCTIONS. IN ORDER FOR PEOPLE TO COME INSIDE HE NEEDS A ROOM TO RELAX IN BY HIMSELF OR TO DO SEVERAL JOINT WALKS WITH PEOPLE/DOGS. History of leash reactivity, isolation distress, stranger danger. We have done two years of b-mod work with and without Rx.We have daily routines and physical/mental stimulation with calming routines after.

Story
Gentle Giant Alert! Meet Atlas, the sweetest, goofiest, most mellow dog you'll ever meet. At 7 months and 75 lbs he could easily be mistaken for a proper guard dog.  However, his "attacks" will consist of slobbery kisses and trying to crawl into your lap.  He's the quintessential good boy who has made fast friends with the resident dogs in his foster home. Atlas is a simple soul who enjoys belly rubs, carrots and sleeping on his dog bed next to his foster mom at night. He has already mastered leash walking and has only had one accident in his foster home.  If you're looking for a gentle, friendly companion who will greet you like you're the best thing since sliced bread (or carrots), Atlas is your guy. Atlas is being fostered in Colorado Springs and is looking forward to meeting you.  ##2008221##

Story
Cece is the sweetest girl looking for her family! She loves to be with her people and will be right by your side no matter what you're doing! She's goofy and still growing into her body, so she has the cutest puppy run that is sure to melt your heart! She is happy to meet strangers and would spend most of the day outside if she got to choose. Cece and her brother Phillip love wrestling, chasing tennis balls, and playing with toys! When they're playing, she regularly comes back to her foster to check in so she'll likely be easy to train off leash. She is highly food motivated and eager to learn. Cece isn't a picky eater and is willing to try any food her foster offers her. Cece does great in the car and has taken multiple field trips to pet friendly stores and a brewery. She didn't bat an eye when walking by carts and through automatic doors! Cece has gone on a few short hikes and will be a great companion for any outdoor adventure. She is perfectly content to hang out in her pen when her people aren't home and also sleeps silently through the night in her kennel! Cece hasn't had an accident in her foster home, but she's still young so frequent potty breaks are always recommended. Cece is happy to share her food and toys with other dogs and doesn't show signs of resource guarding. She loves the resident dogs in her foster home and gets very excited when they play with her. Cece could fit into a lot of homes! She could happy live with another playful dog or would also be content as an only dog. She will be on the larger side, so keep that in mind when considering if your home would be the right fit! ##2020668##

Story
My name is Josie. I am a 75#, spayed, 2 yr old female Pyrenees. I’m so excited to find my perfect forever family! I came into the shelter in TX when my owners moved into an apartment and couldn’t take me with them. I was lucky to make it out and land a foster family here in CO! My foster parents call me “cuddle bug” &#226&#157&#164&#239&#184&#143  My favorite activities include going for walks to sniff all the things, roaming the back yard, and snuggling with my family! My foster mom is helping me to learn I can snuggle but still respect personal space of everyone. I just get so excited! I enjoy hanging out with my other foster siblings.  I like both the cats (although one doesn’t like me so I avoid her). The other dogs are super tiny next to me (chihuahuas) but I’m gentle and like lying with them and eating treats! And I like my Pyr foster brother. I am still true to my Pyrenees traits of being stubborn, independent, and I take careful watch over all my home! I am housebroken and UTD on vaccines. I require a 6’ wooden enclosed fence. I’m still getting used to walking on wood floors vs carpet but I’m getting much better! I have not been tested with kids but an older respectful child should be ok. If you are interested in meeting me, the first step is to complete the meet and greet application at https://www.corgisandfriends.com/forms We require the application, home and reference check, and meet with everyone in the home. My adoption fee is $375 and we do not adopt out of Colorado.April 29, 2024, 11:29 am

Story
Hi, I'm Mesa! I'm still a pup, full of energy and curiosity. I'm always up for a game of fetch or a good puzzle toy. My sweet and friendly nature makes me a great playmate. I'm also quite the cuddler, always ready for a good snuggle. I'm loyal, too. Once we bond, we're a team for life. I'm smart and brave, always eager to learn new things and face new challenges. I'm not just a pet, I'm a companion, a friend, a family member. I'm looking for a home where I can share all the love and joy I have to offer. Why should you adopt me? Well, I promise to fill your life with laughter, love, and lots of puppy kisses! If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to request an appointment to meet me. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. No need to call to find out about me, you can ask questions on the application or email questions to info@polkcountyhumanesociety.org. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and Minneapolis, MN areas twice a month. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual and we will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veteinarian ($35). Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! ##1989980##

Story
I have a question for all your moms out there. How do you do it? Puppies are only with us for a couple months and that’s enough. Amber here and as a young mom, I am ready for a life without my puppies. I’m ready for some me time. This doesn’t make me a selfish girl, I love other dogs and people and I’m even OK with cats. I walk well on leash, don’t jump up and I’m housebroken. I am a calm girl who is trusted to free roam when my foster mom is gone. A home with a yard and another playful dog would be perfect! People say I am smart and have a sweet disposition. Do you have a place in your heart and home for me? If so, please fill out the application and let’s meet. I appreciate you taking the time to read my story love, Amber. If you're interested in meeting me please fill out an application at www.thegooddogrescue.org (If you already have an approved application, please email thegooddogrescueadoptions@gmail.com with your interest in me!) My adoption fee is $300.  I am currently fostered in Vail and the rescue is trying to move me to denver so they can finish my vetting and find my forever home. I am available for a foster to adopt currently until I am spayed!  ##1997186##
