Story
Wrigley is a 12 week old, Pyrenees mix looking for just the right home! This happy, playful guy originally entered a local CO shelter at around 8 weeks old. He was a stray and it’s unclear exactly what his background was. Wrigley was scared at the shelter. They contacted us for some assistance getting him into a foster home so he could learn from other dogs. We’ve found him to be super smart, somewhat aloof, and independent as most Pyrenees are. Wrigley does well with his foster canine siblings and will benefit from another dog in the home to learn from. He is crate trained and does well with his house training when kept on a regular schedule. Wrigley needs to dine and does so beautifully in his crate. We suspect food wasn’t readily available for him as a young pup and he’s learned he needs to protect what’s his. Wrigley is looking for an adult only home or with kids age 12 plus. Ideally his humans will have prior guardian breed experience and will have an affinity for strong willed pups. Wrigley is being fostered in Thornton, Colorado. *We require all adopters to come to Colorado to adopt. *We do not transport dogs.* You can view this wonderful dog at https://www.milehighcanine.org/post/dogs/wrigley/. Story
We adopted Abby from a shelter in Corpus Christi, Texas over a year ago and moved to Colorado in Dec. We have spent that time growing her hair back in as it was very thin when we adopted her, and giving her the best home possible. She is up to date on her vaccinations, microchipped etc. She is very calm sweet and relaxed around the house, She does get excitable when she knows its the time of day for her usual walk and even playful. She is great with people and kids. However, it is important to know as a guardian dog, they are very protective of the yard when it comes to other dogs. She is not great with other dogs until she has had plenty of time to get to know them. She is currently taking Apequel for an itch she is having per veterinary direction. She is a fantastic dog, if we had a work schedule and house/yard more suitable, we likely wouldn't even be considering this. Our goal is to find a home for her where she can get the attention/living situation she deserves.

New to rescue... more to come! The puppies have received 2 DHPP vaccines + rabies thus far. Story
Hi, I'm Luna Bear! I'm a 8 year old Great Pyrenese mix. I'm an older lady and have been in the shelter system for almost 3 years...I'm a lady of leisure and independence. I appreciate my own space, and while I may not be the life of the dog park, I offer a mellow companionship that's hard to find. I prefer a quiet home where I can relax and be myself. I'm not one for other dogs or cats, but I promise to fill your life with a unique kind of love. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2225509##
