Story
Meet Nikki, listed as a Retriever/Lab, American Pitbull mix came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter as a stray on 4/26. She is 3 yrs old and weighs 54 pounds. She has a low-key chill personality and is very alert and aware of her surroundings. She’s a real beauty and has a regal bearing about her! Nikki knows the sit command and will do so for treats taking them politely. She also is quite skilled at catching them in her mouth from a sitting position! She is friendly and is A-OK with being petted and loved on. She’s still a bit nervous and timid. However, I am confident with continued interaction and socialization, she will relax and feel more comfortable. Nikki is well behaved and has a calm and gentle personality. She was not interested in the toys or balls I offered her. Instead, she gravitated to the bed with a soft blanket that she relaxed on and seemed to thoroughly enjoy the quiet relaxed atmosphere of the room. She walks beautifully on a leash. Can you find it in your heart to assist this girl out of the shelter life and into a home in which she will receive plenty of TLC and an inside life with her people?

Story
This adorable happy carefree youngster Retriever mix is Francine. She arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 4/3 as a stray. She weighs 50 pounds and is about a year old. She is a sweet girl and we instantly became best buddies! She walks very nicely on a leash. She appears to have been well cared for as she has a shiny, glossy and soft coat. She is well mannered, yet frisky and perky. She is one spunky, tail-wagging girl with a pleasant and winsome personality. She is friendly and was more than happy to allow me to pet her. Can you tell that I am head-over-heels in love with this darling youngster?

Story
This very attractive youngster is Maribel, listed as a Lab/retriever mix. She was picked up by one of our officers on 5/3 and brought to the Mesquite Animal Shelter. Unfortunately, she contracted a URI and has been on meds. The meds have run their course and she is healthy now. She was so delighted to finally be out of the confinement of her kennel that she was supercharged! In her high spirited enthusiasm, she does jump on you. She is vivacious, playful and did she ever love the assortment of toys in our meet and greet room! She is a friendly girl who was very happy to be loved on and petted. I guarantee you that she would bring a smile to your face if you spent any amount of time with her! This delightfully charming girl with a winsome personality walks well on a leash, and when led past other dogs who were barking at her she simply ignored them and kept moving! Mirabel was unhappy to be returned to the confines of her kennel and who can blame her? This very amiable and pleasant-natured girl deserves a good home

Story
Austin is looking for an active family that will play with him. In return he will fill your home with a joyful spirit that is contagious. He is a handsome boy with beautiful coloring and alluring brown eyes. Austin is a 1 1/2 yr old, 38lb retriever lab mix that arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 3/27. He has a small frame. When we first met he was so excited to be out of the kennel and get attention that he jumped on me. He does get down when instructed to do so. Being an enthusiastic puppy that he is soon forgets. He could use some manners training to learn to not jump. He frolicked and galloped around the yard joyfully wagging his tail. With some coaxing he did sit for a treat and took the treat gently. He also came from across the yard when I called him. He introduced himself to other dogs wagging his tail. He did his business in the yard several times. He walks OK on a leash. He’s lively, alert, friendly, outgoing, and very agile. He would be a wonderful indoor pup, cuddling close to his human companion.

Story
Max is looking for a committed owner this time around. He was originally adopted from the Mesquite Animal Shelter when he was a young puppy to people that lived in an apartment. Max is a 11 month old 60 pound retriever lab mix that was surrendered to our shelter on 1/28 because he got too big for an apartment. I definitely agree he is too big for an apartment!!!. He would be happy to have a yard so he can go out and play and blow off some steam, but then come in to enjoy being loved on by his new family. He sits for treats and takes them very gently. He does jump on you and would need to be taught not to do this. He also can be somewhat mouthy. The good news is that he wants to please and should be a quick study.. I don’t think he’s been given proper instruction. Also keep in mind he’s still a puppy! He’s very alert, happy, friendly, and playful. He would do well with an active family with older children,. He does have a pretty strong pull on the leash. He appeared to be intimidated by other dogs barking at him, but if you have another dog please ask the shelter for a dog test. The bonus is that Max is already neutered! He’s ready to go home with you.
