This Lab/Retriever, Terrier Pit mix is Ria. She was brought to the Mesquite Animal Shelter as a stray on 2/9. Ria weighs 45 pounds, is about 1 1/2 years old and is spayed. As she walked past several kennels, she sniffed at the dogs as though she wanted to be friends. She spent quite a bit of time in the yard and thoroughly enjoyed herself wandering about, with her nose in the air, sniffing out all the interesting scents and looking out into the parking lot activity. Ria is calm and gentle and has a low-key personality. She is friendly once she feels comfortable with a new friend and will warm up. She is OK with loving attention and allowed me to pet her. I even got a few kisses. In the time I spent with her, she has already found a place in my heart. She wants more than anything to get out of a city shelter with dogs barking and confined to a kennel to living as an inside dog with a soft doggie bed, good food and snacks and plenty of TLC from her new people.

Tommy doesn’t know whether to burn off his fun-loving energy or sit by you to receive affection. When he got out in the yard he did zoomies …sometimes running in tight circles! Tommy will keep you on your toes but at the same time give you something to smile about! His happiness is contagious! Tommy is a 2 year old 55 pound neutered male Lab/Retriever/American terrier pit that arrived at the Mesquite Animal shelter on 3/5 as a stray. Tommy loves toys and will entertain himself with them. At the same time, he also loves people and loves giving and receiving attention. As rambunctious as he is, he’s also gentle. He doesn’t jump on you. He wants to please. He’s very friendly and affectionate. He walks OK on a leash. And yes, he will need a lot of space to burn off his excess energy along with a human playmate. After playtime comes snuggle on the couch time.

Rumi is an adorable, lively pup who was surrendered to the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 4/2 after her owner could no longer care for her due to a family member’s illness. She’s a 27-pound, 6-month-old spayed Lab/Poodle mix bursting with puppy energy and joy. Rumi loves to run and play, though she does jump quite a bit and will need some training to work on that. After burning off her energy in the yard, she enjoys lounging and soaking up the sun. Friendly and happy to be petted, she also walks nicely on a leash and potties outside. This sweet girl needs a patient person or family ready to guide her through the puppy stage, offering daily playtime, exercise, and enrichment. With time and effort, she’s sure to become a treasured, loving companion.

Say hello to Gabe, a Labrador/Retriever mix picked up on 3/16 by one of our officers as a stray and brought to the Mesquite Animal Shelter. My Dog Scanner indicates there may also be Perro de Pastor Mallorquin in his breed mix. Gabe weighs 64 pounds and is about 2 years old. He is neutered. Gate has quite an enthusiastic and spunky personality. In the yard, he showed off his athletic ability by climbing up and down on our play equipment. He is playful and is crazy about toys. He throws them up in the air and then willl bring them to you, hoping you will join in the fun and play with him. He also knows how to fetch! He walks well on a leash and knows the sit command. He is friendly and absolutely OK with receiving loving attention. This frisky perky high-spirited boy would love to leave the shelter ASAP. He does jump on you a lot, and this is something that will need to be at the top of the list for his adopter or foster to work on. Until this is dealt with, he probably should not be in a household with really young children. I hope I have convinced you that this boy is highly adoptable and would make someone a devoted and loving companion.

Look out! Trevor is what we call a wiggle butt. If you’re not careful you will get whacked by his tail as it never stops wagging! Trevor is a 3 year old 84 pound mostly black lab/retriever mix that arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 3/2 as a stray. He’s a gentle giant! It looks like he’s been well cared for. He seems to know that there’s a good life ahead for him. He investigated the yard thoroughly. Several times he romped joyfully back-and-forth. He didn’t appear to know the sit command but did want to please. He’s tail-wagging, happy, alert, friendly, well mannered, and loving. He comes when he’s called. He did have a strong pull on the leash, but then he wanted to get out in the yard to do his business.
