Meet Shaq! He’s a 2-year-old male Lab Retriever/American Pitbull mix weighing 51 lbs. He arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 1/13 as an owner surrender because his family was moving and couldn’t take him along. Shaq has a kind, gentle, and loving soul—one meeting with him and you’ll be smitten. He walks beautifully on a leash, takes treats softly, and even gave me sweet kisses on my hand. He loves being petted and will sit or lie down next to you to be close. Shaq has met another dog here without any negative reaction, but if you have a pup at home, we ask that you bring them to meet him. He deserves a forever home where he’s shown the love and affection he craves. A secure yard to play in and living indoors with his favorite humans is his dream. He’s stolen my heart, and he’s sure to steal yours too. Come meet Shaq!

His striking dark brown eyes are his most prominent feature, and his upbeat, joyful, loving personality makes him seem much younger than his age. He pranced happily around the yard, staying alert and curious as he explored. His tail never stopped wagging. Treats are a big motivator for him, and while he sits for them, he’ll need to learn to take them more gently. This well-mannered gentleman walks beautifully on a leash and takes care of business quickly once outside. He dreams of a yard to play in and a cozy bed or blankets to snuggle into inside your home.

Meet Cash, a Lab/Retriever mix who came in as a stray on 1/28. He’s about a year old, weighs around 50 pounds, and is a bit unnerved by the noise of barking dogs around him. He wouldn’t walk on a leash, so he had to be carried to the yard and back, though I’m confident he could learn—or may already know—how to walk nicely once he’s more comfortable. In the yard, he ran and played with joy, clearly loving the chance to stretch his legs. He may be housetrained, as he did his business outside, and he appears to have been well cared for. Curious and playful, Cash explored every inch of the yard, happily took treats, and showed his affectionate side with kisses and attempts to climb into my lap. He’s heartworm negative and would make a loyal, devoted pet who loves to snuggle, cuddle, and bond with his people indoors.

This charming Lab/Retriever mix, Tango, came in as a stray on 1/28. Handsome and weighing 62 lbs, he’s about 3 years old. Tango has a lot going for him—good looks, a great personality, and excellent behavior. He seems to have been well cared for and may be housetrained. As soon as he hit the yard, he made a beeline for the play equipment and climbed up to the platform, clearly realizing it was the perfect spot to watch the parking lot and field beyond. He walks beautifully on a leash, knows the sit command, and loves being petted. With his mellow, sweet-natured personality, Tango was happy to enjoy the treats offered to him.

This is the face of love! This adorable, attractive puppy is Tabitha. She is a 10 month old 32lb yellow lab retriever mix that arrived in the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 1/12 as a stray. She is timid and shy. Taking her out into the yard with a constant tail wag. She definitely wants plenty of love. Once she got into the yard, her sense of smell took over and she casually explored the yard with her nose. At first, when I got near her she would either lay down, roll over, or sit. That’s how I found out she loves belly rubs. She got a little bit more spunky and even jumped up on me a few times for extra attention. She’s very sweet, gentle, loving, calm, and joyful. She’ll need a yard to explore and romp in. Then she told me she would love to cuddle up with her new family at their feet on a pile of blankets or next to them on the couch.

Murphy has such a unique appearance! With one blue/one brown eye, a shiny black coat with speckled chest and feet, and fold-over ears, he is stunningly attractive! Murphy was surrendered 1/6/26 as they could no longer care for him. Murphy weighs 58 pounds, neutered and is about 3 years old. He is listed as a Lab/Retriever but my Dog Scanner suggests German Short-haired Pointer/English Pointer in the breed mix. Owner reported that he is house trained, was an indoor dog, and lived with and was OK with other dogs. I found him to be a delightful and charming boy who deserves another chance at a forever home with someone who will stay committed to him. He walks nicely on a leash and enjoys going for walks. He knows the sit and paw commands. He will sit for treats and takes them politely. He is well mannered and gentle. He is an inquisitive fellow, checking out his surroundings with such intense interest. He is friendly and affectionate. We met a lady in the parking lot who got down on his level to pet him and he promptly gave her kisses. Can you please assist Murphy in having a very short and brief time at the shelter?

his golden is truly golden in the sunlight! Fleming is a 2 year-old 46 lb Golden Retriever Lab mix that arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 2/2 as a stray. To say Fleming is sweet is an understatement. He is a little on the timid side. He did investigate the yard and warmed up to me quickly. He actually came and put his head on my lap. He likes to be loved on! He doesn’t appear to know the sit command but would be glad to learn as he wants to please. This is a delightful boy that is very gentle, calm and well mannered. He did his business in the yard. It did take some coaxing to get him used to the leash. He is a diamond in the ruff. This sweetheart would like nothing better than to spend time next to you on the couch in his own bed.
