His striking dark brown eyes are his most prominent feature, and his upbeat, joyful, loving personality makes him seem much younger than his age. He pranced happily around the yard, staying alert and curious as he explored. His tail never stopped wagging. Treats are a big motivator for him, and while he sits for them, he’ll need to learn to take them more gently. This well-mannered gentleman walks beautifully on a leash and takes care of business quickly once outside. He dreams of a yard to play in and a cozy bed or blankets to snuggle into inside your home.

Meet Shaq! He’s a 2-year-old male Lab Retriever/American Pitbull mix weighing 51 lbs. He arrived at the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 1/13 as an owner surrender because his family was moving and couldn’t take him along. Shaq has a kind, gentle, and loving soul—one meeting with him and you’ll be smitten. He walks beautifully on a leash, takes treats softly, and even gave me sweet kisses on my hand. He loves being petted and will sit or lie down next to you to be close. Shaq has met another dog here without any negative reaction, but if you have a pup at home, we ask that you bring them to meet him. He deserves a forever home where he’s shown the love and affection he craves. A secure yard to play in and living indoors with his favorite humans is his dream. He’s stolen my heart, and he’s sure to steal yours too. Come meet Shaq!

This Lab/Retriever, Terrier Pit mix is Ria. She was brought to the Mesquite Animal Shelter as a stray on 2/9. Ria weighs 45 pounds, is about 1 1/2 years old and is spayed. As she walked past several kennels, she sniffed at the dogs as though she wanted to be friends. She spent quite a bit of time in the yard and thoroughly enjoyed herself wandering about, with her nose in the air, sniffing out all the interesting scents and looking out into the parking lot activity. Ria is calm and gentle and has a low-key personality. She is friendly once she feels comfortable with a new friend and will warm up. She is OK with loving attention and allowed me to pet her. I even got a few kisses. In the time I spent with her, she has already found a place in my heart. She wants more than anything to get out of a city shelter with dogs barking and confined to a kennel to living as an inside dog with a soft doggie bed, good food and snacks and plenty of TLC from her new people.

Greetings this is BlackBerry, she is a 5yr lab and jack russell mix we think. She was a foster I received a few years ago. She is amazing with people if she was to ever find her one person she would be a friend for life. She is kennel trained, leash trained, house trained and super low maintenance. She knows apartment living and is not at all destructive. I am about to move and she hasn't been getting along with my SBT together they are extremely reactive to one another and will be easier for me to relocate her than him due to his past. She is microchipped. She is just a sweet girl. She was abused before I got her into my care we have worked through all of that she loves to cuddle and go for car rides to get pup cups. I would love to see her find the perfect furever family.

Murphy has such a unique appearance! With one blue/one brown eye, a shiny black coat with speckled chest and feet, and fold-over ears, he is stunningly attractive! Murphy was surrendered 1/6/26 as they could no longer care for him. Murphy weighs 58 pounds, neutered and is about 3 years old. He is listed as a Lab/Retriever but my Dog Scanner suggests German Short-haired Pointer/English Pointer in the breed mix. Owner reported that he is house trained, was an indoor dog, and lived with and was OK with other dogs. I found him to be a delightful and charming boy who deserves another chance at a forever home with someone who will stay committed to him. He walks nicely on a leash and enjoys going for walks. He knows the sit and paw commands. He will sit for treats and takes them politely. He is well mannered and gentle. He is an inquisitive fellow, checking out his surroundings with such intense interest. He is friendly and affectionate. We met a lady in the parking lot who got down on his level to pet him and he promptly gave her kisses. Can you please assist Murphy in having a very short and brief time at the shelter?
