Meet Morris, a mixed breed boy picked up along with his sister Missy by one of our officers and brought to the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 9/22/2023. He is currently about 1 1/2 years old, weighs 54 pounds and is neutered. He has been at the shelter over 5 months and is hoping any day soon that someone will see what a terrific boy he is, and that he will be able to leave the shelter soon and that his time at the shelter will be a thing of the past. The most important thing to know about Morris is that he is a big love bug! He is affectionate, a lapdog wannabe, gives kisses and snuggles and is crazy about belly rubs. He loves walks and exploring the outside world, and though he does walk on a leash and is making progress, he needs additional leash training. He will sit for treats and does take them politely. He has a high energy level and will need a home in which he will be given daily playtime, exercise, and enrichment in order to fit in well with his new people. He is even open to learning new commands. Morris absolutely positively wants to live inside with his people so that he can be a cherished part of the family. A shelter volunteer who has spent time with Morris and sings his praises, has sponsored his adoption. Meet October, a Whippet, Lab/Retriever mix that was picked up by one of our officers and brought to the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 2/8. October weighs about 40 pounds, is approx 2 1/2 years old and is spayed. She had six puppies that were rescued. She has become one of my favorites! She arrived at the shelter in rough shape--underweight, scars on her face and a scruffy coat. During her stay at the shelter she is looking healthier and has gained weight. She is friendly, affectionate, and likes to be around people and be loved on. She is high energy and has an exuberant personality. She is becoming stressed in her kennel due to having been there for over 2 months. Her dream home would include the following: At the top of the list would be to live inside with her people, receive lots of TLC and a comfy cozy bed, daily playtime, exercise, and enrichment, and with an active person or family that would stay committed to her. Oh and she walks well on a leash so would happily go for walks with her people.

Meet Aaron! He is a 1 yr old neutered male Retriever Lab/American Pitbull mix that weighs 47lbs. He came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 3/14 as a stray. Aaron is such a loving boy that captured my heart the moment we met. He has such beautiful golden eyes, and a loving happy go lucky personality. I feel he did have a family, yet they have not come to reclaim in. His fur is soft and clean, and when he is happy he gives you a big smile and his tail wags in a circle. I feel he has been housetrained too. He walks great on a leash, takes treats gently and loves to be petted. He enjoys romping through the shelter yard, but will come back for loving pets. Walking past other dogs barking at him, he showed no interest in them. If you have another dog in the home, please ask the shelter for a dog test. Can you provide him with a secured backyard he can run and play in, and a fluffy dog bed or a couch inside where where he can cuddle close with you? Aaron is the complete package! He has the looks, he has the happy loving personality, you will just fall for him like I have! He would make a very loving family companion.

This high-spirited fellow is Pepper, a Lab/Retriever mix picked up by one of our officers on 3/20 and brought to the Mesquite Animal Shelter. Pepper weighs 62 pounds and is approximately 3 years old. He is one lively and active fellow, friendly and sweet natured. He is confident and trusting, and with an outgoing personality. He loves treats, and will take them politely. He demonstrated his athletic ability by climbing up the play equipment in search of yummy treats. He was not interested in playing with toys or balls. Pepper just seemed to relish stretching his legs, running around the yard and enjoying the beautiful spring day. He did his business in the yard. He walks well on a leash. He is excitable and energetic! Obedience training would only enhance his already sterling qualities. He needs a person or family that would spend time exercising and playing with him in the yard and then spend the rest of his time in the house with his people.

This high-spirited pup is Connie, a Terrier mix, weighing in at 18 pounds and at 3 months of age. Since her time at the shelter she has been spayed. She and her sibling Bonnie were brought in on 4/18 as strays to the Mesquite Animal Shelter. This is one tail-wagging, fun-loving, playful youngster. She and her sibling are kenneled together. Connie walks quite nicely on a leash, she loves treats, is friendly, sweet and more than happy to receive petting and loving attention when she slows down, that is. She does not have one bit of fear, nervousness, or shyness. She has an outgoing and confident personality. Connie is high energy and would benefit from receiving manners training in order to fit in better in her new life. Connie needs an owner that is willing to invest time, effort and patience into training this sweet girl. The puppy stage can be challenging, and therefore Connie needs someone who will stick with her and work through the normal puppy stuff. She needs to have an inside home in order from the get-go to be an important part of the family circle. It is not necessary for the sisters to be adopted or rescued together.

Knut came to us at 3 weeks during a winter storm old and was one of the biggest babies we had seen. That is why we named him after a famous polar bear cub. We are unsure of his breed, and as he gets bigger our guesses keep changing. We do think he has some hound in him due to his elongated snout. He is now 9 months old and weighs 60 lbs. He is neutered, microchiped, and has had 3 rounds of vaccines. We expect him to be quite a large dog fully grown, possibly over 80lbs. However, Knut is a gentle giant. He is very sweet and passive and loves to play with the other dogs. But his favorite thing to do is eat. He is a little shy at first, but warms up quickly. He is ready for his forever home and a family that wants a big dog with a big heart.

Adoption fee waived for our "bear" pups. Both Grizzly and her brother Polar have waived adoption fees. Grizzly came to us with 3 of her siblings when they were only a couple of weeks old. We do know that their mom was some kind of Labrador mix, but due to the fact that the puppies have dewclaws and their size we assume they are a Great Pyrenees mix. Grizzly is the largest of her siblings. She is a big happy girl that loves to play. She is brave and smart and the first to try new things. She love the outdoors and is very affectionate.

We know that mom is a Labrador mix. Due to the fact that the puppies have dewclaws and their size we assume they are also Pyrenees mixes. He is the smallest of his siblings and the most shy. He is cautious to try new things and will stand back and watch. He can be a bit fearful at first, but once he figures it out he is happy and playful. He loves playing wirh his siblings, but is just as happy laying on the couch. He is very sweet and loving.
