Story
Hi there! My name is Nika! I had a very rough start to life, living in garbage, along with my 8 puppies and some other poor furry souls. Thank goodness for rescue networking! With a lot of determination from a few kind people and a couple trips, we were all saved from the squalor and placed with Humane Tomorrow fosters with hopes that we have a new beginning. I arrived with a bad case of non-contagious mange and fleas. I was missing a lot of hair but with the right medicine, food & care, I am quickly blossoming into a black beauty. I am currently 47 lbs. of pure sweetness and expected to gain a few more as I am now getting plenty of yummy, nutritious food. I have settled in quickly to my new surroundings. I have good house manners. Ok, recently I started counter surfing to sniff out any goodies that may be left there, but that’s because I’m smart with a good nose. I haven’t chewed anything in the house except my toys (I like stuffed squeaker types). I’m getting the hang of fetch and even frisbee (sort of) if my foster mom could throw it the right way consistently:) I enjoy walks and my leash manners are good until I see a rabbit. I am stronger than I look and my foster mom learned to be on the lookout for critters that may catch my interest because I can get to the end of my leash fast. Squirrels, birds, ducks & geese are not all that interesting but those rascally rabbits on our evening walks are the most fascinating to me. I may do just fine with cats, but I can’t say for sure. I am gentle so I think I would be good with kids. I am great in my large crate, but I am confident enough to have free reign in the house when left alone and at night. I sleep on one of my beds, although I certainly wouldn’t mind sleeping on the couch or with my people if they allowed me to. I learned the dog door in no time and haven’t had an accident. My least favorite thing is taking a bath. As my coat continues to heal, maybe I’ll learn to love them. I love car rides and am ready to go when you are. I sit like a champ and am working on other commands. Did I mention I am smart and eager to please? I am a good dog on my way to greatness! I have heartworms because I wasn't kept on heartworm prevention. Humane Tomorrow will pay for my treatment which is very successful! Please submit your application, and an adoption counselor will contact you.

Story
Meet Angus, a 6 month old, 34 lb Labrador Retriever mix. He may look chocolate-colored in some of his pics, but he has a handsome, shiny black coat. Foster mom says he has a sweet, affectionate personality and an independent streak that makes him a joy to foster. He loves spending time with his people but is also content to entertain himself, often using the doggy door to head outside and relax with in the grass with his favorite toy. Angus is fully house-trained with no accidents. He sleeps in a crate at night and does well, through he may voice his opinion about bedtime before settling in. Like any puppy, he is curious and playful, so shoes, toys, and other unattended items may become fair game. Angus gets along well with other dogs and has met several new dos successfully. He enjoys canine play and can be enthusiastic, so intitial introductions should be supervised. His puppy play style may not be appreciated by older or more laid-back dogs. Angus loves taking walks and has excellent leash manners. Angus has been impressive around kids. He recently spent time with a dog-savvy 4-year old and was gentle, showing no jumping or nipping behavior. Angus will thrive in a home that understands puppy energy and is ready to continue his training and socialization. He offers a wonderful combination of affection, confidence, and independence, making him a great companion for an active family or individual looking for a loving young dog with lots of potential.

Story
Cara is a 1.5 year old, 30 lb Lab mix. She was rescued, along with several other dogs, from a horrible situation where she was literally living in a trash heap. She was underweight when she arrived but is steadily gaining weight, now that she is getting plenty of yummy food. Foster mom says, despite her past, she is sweet, affectionate and playful! She enjoys fetch, tug, and chase, and is always up for a good sniffy walk (her harness works great!). She’s eager to learn, potty trained, crate-friendly, and comes when called - especially to whistles, lip smacks, or “Skip”, which is the resident dog’s name. She's very social and enjoys the company of other dogs and is also happy hanging around nearby when foster mom is working. She's never been separated during the day more than 4 hours for potty training reasons, and she does not have "accidents". Cuddly and with happy energy, a good mix of fun and snuggles. Fair warning - keep your shoes tucked away - she’s a curious girl and still mastering her puppy manners. She'll make a great Best Friend for a lucky someone! Cara has heartworms because she was not kept on heartworm prevention, but Humane Tomorrow will pay for her treatment with our partner vet, and the treatments are very successful. Please submit your application, and an adoption counselor will contact you.

Story
Honey-Bun (aka “Bunny”, “Bun-Bun”, and “you’re so cute”). Meet Honey Bun — equal parts snuggle bug, comedian, and tiny, quirky queen. A Golden Retriever/Cattle dog mix is our best guess at breed mix. Her name fits her perfectly—her coat is the color of Honey, and she’s just as sweet. She is on the smaller side, only 48 lbs. Honey was dumped on a country road and waited there for her owners for TWO weeks, hoping her family would come back. They did not. When she was rescued, she was completely shut down — too scared to walk, ride in a car, or even move. Over time, she began to trust again… only to be displaced once more when her rescuer couldn’t keep her. That’s when she came to Humane Tomorrow and she is now thriving! We had to start back at square one. She would be frozen in place in the yard, unsure of everything, overwhelmed by the world. She has come a long way and is so courageous these days, but it is possible she may digress slightly upon arrival to a new home, which is why we're so determined to find her the perfect forever home so that Honey can show you who she really is. In her foster home, with time, encouragement, a pack of five very patient resident dogs, and let’s be honest a steady supply of treats, she blossomed and we know she can do that again. The dog who once “pancaked” on walks now sprints to the door when she senses it’s time to go out. Doorways? Conquered. Garage door noises? Irrelevant. The bed she once hid under? Long forgotten. What you will get is Honey 2.0 — a happy, hilarious little character who quite literally smiles all day. She’s food-motivated (carrots and ice included), endlessly entertaining as she digs herself into the couch cushions. Her signature move on walks: spotting another dog and transforming into a pogo stick - you have never seen anything like it. If you’re looking for a velcro dog who will be your shadow on the sofa, curl up as close as physically possible, and melt at gentle affection, Honey is your girl. She’s sensitive, deeply loving, and thrives with patience, calm energy, and someone who appreciates a dog with a little extra personality. She does well with other dogs, and she LOVES to play. Slow introductions are recommended as she is shy and nervous at first. If you have a house full of cute little kids, Honey is not for you. However, she does fantastic with older kids and loves the attention she gets from them. She enjoys emptying her very large toy box, throwing the toys around on the soft rug. It’s adorable. Honey's story didn’t start easy. She’s also a world-class backyard observer. She loves watching the world go by. Squirrels? Fascinating. Bunnies? Immediate pogo activation. Birds? Not worth her time. Honey is house-trained, doesn’t bark much, knows a couple of basic commands (sit, no, treats) and is very eager to please. Training will come over time — confidence was the real work, and she’s already done the hard part. She does best with patient and gentle guidance; raised voices will shut her down. Please submit your application, and an adoption counselor will contact you.

Story
Meet Nemo — our handsome 6.5-year-old Retriever mix with the sweetest face and those adorable ears that stand straight up!Nemo is the definition of a laid-back best friend. This sweet boy has a gentle, loving personality and absolutely adores being around people. He recently got to go out on an adventure and did amazing! Nemo was excited to explore new environments, happily let people pet him in the store, and soaked up all the attention like the social butterfly he truly is. He also rode wonderfully in the backseat, making him an excellent companion for road trips, errands, or weekend adventures. While Nemo enjoys lounging around and relaxing with his people, he still loves getting out for walks to stretch his legs and explore the world. Because of his easygoing nature, he could do well in either a house or an apartment setting as long as he gets regular walks and exercise. When he’s not out adventuring, Nemo enjoys soaking up the sunshine, staying close to his people, and handing out hugs. And if you really want to become his favorite person? Chicken jerky treats are definitely the way to his heart (though he’s still working on taking them a little more gently!).Nemo can be selective with other dogs, so a meet and greet is required. He may also be happiest as the only pet where he can soak up all the love and attention for himself. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion who is equal parts adventure buddy and couch potato, Nemo is ready to become your very best friend.
