Animal Information: Nicky is an estimated 4-year-old 55 lb now neutered male black lab mix who was a stray intake to County of Hawaii Animal Control after being hit by a car. This big goofy boy was lucky to suffer only some road rash - no fractures - and passed his temperament test with dogs and people with flying colors. When he was euth-listed for space, he was pulled by an island rescue to a private boarding kennel from COH-AC and networked for rescue transfer. Kennel staff notes that he walks well on a leash (especially after play time), shows no resource guarding tendencies, and is not destructive with toys. He has good social skills with other dogs, taking cues well, and is friendly with all people including the children he has met at many adoption events. Foster Updates: Nicky is a real love! He does well in his crate when left alone, but prefers to sleep on the couch. He loves to play with the resident dog and loves to play with toys too, though he isn't destructive with them. Especially loves tug with his large rope toy. He is mostly a quiet boy -- only barks when he thinks the house needs guarding, like when the scary scary mailman approaches. He LOVES to snuggle. He will lay on top of his foster mom for hours. He needs a bit of work with his leash manners but he’s got some of the basic commands down. Other notes: He's great with the small senior dog in his foster home, he is curious about the kitten but will only lay down nearby and watch him, and wants to bark at the chickens. He is able to be very independent - will simply lay down in the grass and is perfectly content watching his foster mom garden. But when given the opportunity, he wants to be with his people and getting lovings and cuddles. Animal Information: Pluto is a 38lb, 6-month-old male lab mix (mama was a lab mix, but we don't know where his stumpy legs came from!). Until recently, he and his littermates lived in an outdoor pen with out adequate access to shelter or water. Luckily they were picked up by our rescue partners, and Pluto has been loving indoor dog life. He will need to work on his leash manners, but this happy go lucky guy is made of best friend material. We can't wait to meet him! Foster Profile: Pluto is a silly little puppy looking for his forever home! His ideal family will have a friendly dog to help him build his confidence, though he would also be fine as a solo dog. They will need to be patient as he's still going through his puppy phase (chewing on things, jumping on people), but this waggly little bundle of joy is social, submissive, and eager to please with a great off-switch. An active family would be ideal to help keep him from any mischief—two walks a day seem sufficient to tire him out. He will need strong leadership to teach him boundaries as he grows older, as he can be pushy at times. Pluto is learning to live life in a big city—joggers and cars used to make him nervous but he's making progress every day. He takes a moment to warm up, but he's loved every human and dog he's met. We're working on his commands and I think he'll pick them up relatively quickly now that he's a little more settled in. He's crate-trained, albeit with the occasional FOMO whining. He happily puts himself in his crate when he's tired, though he does also love his couch time. Potty-training is still a work in progress, but he's never had an accident in his crate and he easily sleeps through the night. He's got head tilts down to an art, and will be sure to bring his future family lots of laughter, joy, and snuggles! She is timid around men and will need time, consistency, and patience to build trust. Animal Information: May was found abandoned in an orchard in Eastern Washington with her three puppies, Lola, Bonita, and Bonny. Thankfully, our friends at Yakima Valley Pet Rescue brought the little family to safety. She weighs 42lbs and is estimated to be around 2 years old. Since being rescued, May has been friendly with both people and other dogs. She's been staying in a temporary foster home in Yakima with several other dogs and has done well with everyone she's met. As a German Shorthaired Pointer, May will do best with an active family that can provide the exercise, training, and mental stimulation her breed needs. We're looking forward to getting to know her better as she settles in and helping her find the right forever home. Foster Profile: Calling all GSP lovers! May is an active friendly girl waiting for a family to call her own. She loves all people and dogs she meets and is not shy when warming up to new people. She also knows how to read the room if another dog is not interested in playing with her and she carries on with her business. She is fairly active and loves to play and run but has an off switch and is always down for some snuggles. She is working on leash training and will benefit from continued training and structure to help her learn the ropes. Hi, this is Snoopy! When we got him, we were told he's a Golden Retriever and Golden Lab mix. He is an amazing dog, filled with so much love and curiosity. Rehoming him is a heartbreaking decision, but he deserves a better life with someone who has the time and resources to properly care for him. I would love for him to go to a family, as he absolutely adores people and kids. He can be high-energy, but he's also a total lap dog and a perfect cuddle partner when it's time to relax.
