Story
Ruger has the kind of personality that sneaks up on you. At first, he's happy to sit back, take everything in, and decide the world isn't quite as scary as it first seemed. Then, almost before you realize it, he's walking beside you on a neighborhood stroll, happily accepting treats, and leaning in for affection like you've known each other forever. Watching his confidence grow is one of the sweetest things about him! You can watch Ruger at the link here, then come right back to read more! You'll see him enjoying a walk, politely meeting one of our cat testers, and showing just how gentle and thoughtful he is when introduced to new experiences. It's a wonderful glimpse into the calm, affectionate companion waiting to meet his family. Estimated to have been born around July 13, 2023, Ruger is just over 3 years old, weighs approximately 9 lbs, and appears to be a Rat Terrier and Chihuahua mix, though as with all rescue dogs, his breed and age are simply our best educated guess. He's scheduled to be neutered on August 8th before heading off to his adoptive home! Ruger is currently fostered in a lively household with three young children—ages 6, 3, and 1—as well as several other dogs, giving him lots of opportunities to experience the hustle and bustle of everyday family life. He's proven to be a wonderful little housemate and has settled into home life beautifully. He's fully potty trained and has no trouble having his collar or leash put on before heading out for one of his favorite activities, a nice walk. Once outside, Ruger is in his element. He walks beautifully on leash and genuinely seems to enjoy exploring the world one sniff at a time. He's happy to accept treats along the way, making walks and continued training both enjoyable and rewarding. Although he may take a few moments to warm up to new people, Ruger doesn't stay reserved for long. Once he realizes you're a friend, his affectionate personality starts to shine. He has a gentle nature that makes spending time with him feel easy, whether you're out exploring together or simply relaxing at home. Ruger also had the opportunity to meet one of our calm, dog-friendly cat testers. He approached the introduction with curiosity, offered a few polite sniffs, and showed no signs of aggression. Based on that interaction, we think he could do well in a home with a mellow, cat-savvy feline after slow introductions. One area Ruger is still working on is feeling comfortable in a kennel. Right now, being confined isn't his favorite thing, and he'll let you know he'd rather be out with his people. With consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement, we think he'll continue building confidence as he settles into a routine. Ruger would love a family that appreciates the quieter moments just as much as the adventurous ones. Someone who understands that not every dog rushes into new situations, but that the friendships built slowly are often the strongest. He's already shown that he can adapt to a busy household with children, enjoys getting out for walks, and has the gentle, affectionate personality that makes a small dog such a wonderful companion! If Ruger sounds like he'd fit into your family, we'd love for you to meet him! You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Kawliga!  Kawliga (Kaw-ly-ja) is a sweet young guy with a gentle personality and a playful side. He came to us with his sister, Sushi, after their family made the difficult decision to surrender them when they began going after the household chickens. Because of this, Kawliga will need a home without poultry or other small livestock. We're told that he got along well with the outdoor cats in his previous home and did great with children and other dogs, and also house trained.  Kawliga is an awesome dog. He's always smiling with tail wags, happy to meet everyone. He knows his name, and basic commands like sit. He's such a smart boy.  Kawliga is neutered, microchipped, heartworm and tick-borne disease negative (4DX), current on ProHeart for heartworm prevention, and protected with Bravecto. Adoption Fee: $350 Apply today at www.adoggie4you.org. Kawliga is currently located in Texas but can be transported to Washington, Portland (Oregon), Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Chicago, Des Moines, Omaha, Cincinnati, Lexington, Kentucky, and locations along the East Coast for an additional $250 transport fee. Please note that we are unable to transport to Rhode Island or Massachusetts due to state regulations.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 16, 2026, 5:21 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Sylvester! This sweet boy was owner surrendered through no fault of his own and is now looking for a family to call his own. From the moment you meet him, it's hard not to fall in love. Sylvester is one of those puppies who just wants to be with his people. His favorite place is curled up in your lap, but when it's time to play, he's all in! He loves playing with people, wrestling with other puppies, and enjoying everything puppy life has to offer. Sylvester is a typical puppy, so he'll need a family that's ready to help him learn good manners and continue his basic training. His breed guess is a rat terrier mix, who are known to be smart and very active dogs.  Sylvester's adoption fee is $400. He is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. If you think Sylvester could be the perfect addition to your family, apply today at www.adoggie4you.org. Story
Pepper and his 1/2 sibling Honey, are purebred 2 year old Rat Terriers, together since tiny, now in foster care since mid-July '26. Prior family could no longer keep them, no fault of the dogs. Both have sweet, happy, & loving dispositions once they know you. Energetic, athletic, but also good at chillin' on your lap or just being near their people. Rat Terriers are intelligent, loyal, with high prey drive so really good rodent hunters. They cleared a 7 years long marmot infestation at their foster home in 4 days! Pepper is sweet, playful, happy. One eye part blue. Kennel, dog door trained, housebroken, leash, basic commands. Likes walks, car rides, playing w/Honey, and chasing marmots, etc. Fenced yard recommended - he can be active. A home w/ active kids &/or adults would be ideal. He hasn't been around cats, so would need proper integration. Nice if adopted together. If separated, maybe new homes could plan playdates so dogs can visit

Story
Some dogs hand out their trust freely. Honeybear believes the best relationships are built one kind interaction at a time! She may take a little while to decide you're one of her people, but once she does, you'll have a loyal little companion who wants nothing more than to be by your side! Go watch Honeybear's Sweet Little Smile in action on YouTube, then come right back to read more! You'll see a gentle little girl who blossoms with patience, quietly seeking out affection, climbing into laps, and showing off the sweet kisses that have become her signature way of saying, "I trust you." Estimated to have been born around May 17, 2021, Honeybear is approximately 5 years old, weighs around 9.6 lbs and appears to be a Chihuahua/Rat Terrier mix, though as with all rescue dogs, her breed and age are simply our best educated guess. She has a beautiful tan coat with soft cream accents, expressive buggy eyes, and once she's comfortable, an adorable smile that's guaranteed to brighten your day. Honeybear is scheduled to be spayed on August 8th before heading home with her forever family! Honeybear has been settling into foster care beautifully. While she can be a little reserved when meeting new people, she continues to gain confidence every day. Gentle introductions, patience, and a handful of treats are the quickest way to win her over. She does warm up quicker to women than with men. With time and patience, she’ll be snuggled up right next to you. Once she knows she's safe, her affectionate personality shines. And when Honeybear loves you, she really loves you! She's a true lap dog who would happily spend hours curled up beside her favorite person. She sleeps in bed with her foster family each night, follows her people from room to room during the day, and has a sweet habit of showing affection with gentle little kisses. She isn't loud or demanding—she simply loves being close to the people who make her feel safe. Food is definitely the way to Honeybear's heart. She happily accepts treats, already knows "sit," and enjoys spending time outside once she's comfortable. She also rides well in the car, making her an easy little companion for errands or adventures. Honeybear currently lives with several other dogs and has done wonderfully after taking a little time to settle in. Today, she happily plays with them, relaxes alongside them, and enjoys having canine companions around. In fact, another friendly dog may even help her continue building confidence, as she can experience a little separation anxiety when left alone and seems comforted by having both her people and other dogs nearby. She also met one of our calm, dog-friendly cats and handled the introduction beautifully. Honeybear voluntarily walked over, offered a polite sniff, and calmly moved on. Based on that interaction, we think she'd likely do well with a mellow, cat-savvy feline after thoughtful introductions. Honeybear has excellent potty manners and is adjusting nicely to everyday home life. She is still learning that the kennel is a safe place and may protest a bit when confined, but she's making progress as she settles into a routine. One thing her future family should know is that Honeybear prefers to enjoy her meals without interruptions. Like many dogs, she can be protective of her food around people and other dogs, so feeding her separately or giving her a quiet space during mealtimes will help everyone succeed. Her foster has found this to be simple to manage. Because Honeybear is naturally more thoughtful and reserved, we think she'd be happiest in a home with a calmer lifestyle where relationships are allowed to develop at her pace. She hasn't yet been around young children, so any introductions should be slow, respectful, and supervised. Honeybear isn't looking to be everyone's best friend the moment she walks through the door. She's looking for her person—someone who understands that trust is earned, celebrates the little milestones, and appreciates the quiet kind of love that only grows stronger with time. If you're searching for a devoted little shadow who wants nothing more than to share your couch, your bed, and your heart, Honeybear may just be the perfect match!
