Story
Meet Scarlet! Scarlet was rescued from a high-kill shelter in New Mexico in April 2025, and while we truly believed she’d be scooped up right away, this sweet girl is somehow still waiting for her forever family. Month after month she’s watched other dogs find their homes while she’s quietly stayed behind, wagging her tail and hoping her turn is coming. Scarlet hasn’t given up — and neither have we — because we know the right person is out there, ready to see what an incredible, loving dog she is. Scarlet is a gorgeous 35 pound, now 2 year old Australian Shepherd / Cattle Dog mix that is nothing but pure love. Scarlet's breeds were identified by the New Mexico veterinarians...all we know for certain is that this sweet girl is irresistible! Scarlet's foster had the following to say about this sweet girl: * * * * "Scarlet is an absolute gem! She’s incredibly sweet, affectionate, and loves people — especially our kids (ages 10 and 13). From the start, she’s been friendly, playful, and super loving with them. I wouldn't recommend kids younger than 10, as she is jumpy and bouncy, but she absolutely loves our kiddos. Scarlet is pretty much potty trained now! She lets us know when she needs to go out. Scarlet is so smart and very easy to train, as she is super food motivated. As you can see from the photos and videos, Scarlet LOVES our dogs and gets along with them and plays with them and cuddles with them. Just at first it did take a proper, slow introduction and a few days for them to become friends. When it comes to other dogs, Scarlet just needs a slow introduction. She is not a fan of new dogs until she gets to know them. Scarlet has been with us for almost a year now and besides the first introduction back in April 2025, she has not had ANY bad reactions to my dogs. They're best friends! With a little patience and structure, she truly blossoms. It took about 5 days for her to really start getting along with our two resident dogs, but now they are completely bonded. She’s worth it—she just needs time to build trust and settle in. Scarlet sleeps in bed with us and is a total cuddler. She likes to curl up right near my husband's pillow. One other note to share with potential adopters is that she truly is 35 lbs. She looks bigger in her photos, but she really is such a smaller, medium size! Scarlet is a loving, loyal girl with so much to give. She’ll thrive in a home that understands her needs and can give her a little time to warm up. Once she feels safe, her sweet, snuggly personality shines through—and she becomes a total heart-stealer." * * * * As Scarlet becomes comfortable in her forever home, she'll blossom and become a fuzzy ball of good-will that loves to please. The happier her family is with her behavior, the more Scarlet will shine with her accomplishments. Farfel's would like to see our wonderful girl in a home that includes her in family time and activities (and some couch-time with belly rubs would be absolutely perfect!) as well as taking that extra step to participate in positive reinforcement / force free virtual or in-person obedience classes. These classes successfully teach a smart and cooperative dog like Scarlet the skills to accompany her family out into the world with excellent behavior. Farfel's Rescue is happy to provide a list of approved virtual and in-person force-free trainers in your area. Scarlet will be a loving and devoted companion for active retirees who have the time and desire to be best friends with a silly, fun-loving and irresistible dog. She would love to have another gentle and fun dog to play with but it's not mandatory if her people are nurturing and involved. Scarlet would also do well with a younger family that works from a home-based office. She would bask in the attention and periodic cuddles throughout the day that this life-style brings. Scarlet has been fully vetted, spayed, and is up to date on her vaccinations. This supports Farfel's commitment to adopting out only healthy dogs. Scarlet is available for adoption now. Applications are currently being accepted for this sweet and very loving best friend and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-res. cue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Scarlet please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.

Story
Baxter has a joyful, wiggly personality and loves being outside. Walks? Yes please. Hiking? Even better. If you toss a toy he'll chase it, but he prefer you chase him around the yard. He's fun and loves to wrestle with bones or rope toys. Inside the home Baxter is low maintenance. He enjoys having his own space, relaxing on his bed, and hanging out nearby while you unwind. He's fully potty trained, up to date on vaccines, neutered, and completed e-collar training- including reliable off-leash skills and a great heel. Who Baxter is looking for Baxter thrives in calm predictable environments, which means he's not a match for homes with young kids. His current family loves him deeply, and re-homing Baxter comes from wanting him to live his happiest, least-stressful life. Baxter is a fantastic fit for - An adults-only or older-kids home - Someone who loves walks, exploring, or weekend adventures - A house with a yard where he can romp - Homes with cats (he does great with them!)

Story
Winston is a 14 month Mini Aussie with a big heart and even bigger potential. He has grown into a smart, affectionate, and energetic young dog. Winston is very active and thrives with regular exercise and mental stimulation. Due to a demanding work schedule, we are unable to give him the time and activity level he truly deserves, which is why we are making the difficult decision to find him a new home where he can flourish. He gets along great with other dogs and would likely enjoy having a canine friend. Winston knows all his basic commands and even knows how to shake paw. He is eager to please and very intelligent, making him a great candidate for continued training. Winston can be a bit anxious on leash and would benefit from training classes and a confident, patient owner who can help build his confidence. With guidance and consistency, he has all the tools to become a wonderful family companion. Please apply if you are interest and we can schedule a meet up!

Story
I received Gunner as a birthday gift from my kids! I was diagnosed with MS and thought I was able to take care of him! He's very spoiled and I think i'm doing him more harm than good seeing as how I'm in an apartment! He needs to have a yard or alot of acreage to run around! He's not an apartment dog! I care so much for him, I look at him when we are walking by ourselves and he loves it! I always have him on leash when there is no fences, because he or I think he has no recall! But when we go to the dog park he doesn't leave my side! It takes him a minute to warm up to others dogs mainly because he's afraid. When he was a puppy he was afraid of everything! He is leash aggressive and we are trying to work on that but he is too strong for me so I don't walk him on leash around other dogs! I have an electric shock collar for him, but I dont like to use it if I don't have to! I hope that his new owner would love him as much as I do!

These pups are in Boulder, Colorado too!

Story
Meet Patunia! ******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you area not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Patunia is an spayed, 2.5 year old female Border Collie mix, currently weighing around 68lbs. She is in a foster home in Houston, TX, and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is found. This big sweetie is the ultimate girl’s girl! She’ll be your biggest cheerleader for the wins and the losses, and will always agree that your girl math is 100% correct, especially if it involves some goodies for her too. Patunia is very affectionate and LOVES to snuggle and get kisses from her people! You’ll always find her near by and she is a huge fan of sleeping in your bed. Patunia is very gentle towards children, and enjoys having them as a cuddle/play mate. She is fearful of men, but adores women and children. She can be independent, but prefers her humans close by. Once Patunia forms an attachment to you, she’ll hug your legs and won’t let go. She is very playful and obsessed with all of the toys! She shares well with the resident dogs and humans too. She does prefer to dine solo however, so feeding away from others is recommended. Patunia is high energy, favoring dogs that can keep up with her. She is very friendly towards other dogs, and is excellent on picking up on their cues, especially when a dog isn’t interested in playing. Patunia is cat friendly with slow introductions. She is very curious about the resident kitties, and will follow them around. She may chase them to get them to play, so supervision is recommended. This good girl is very well trained on a leash, walking gently and calmly, and she is house and crate trained. She is only crated when unsupervised or left home alone for her own safety, as she can chew on random items. She has a little separation anxiety, but having another pup around helps her feel safe. Patunia will thrive in a home with a family or a single woman looking for a best friend! She just needs to have a close bond of friendship and love. She would also benefit from having another dog in the house that will play endlessly and help her feel safe. She would love a spacious back yard to help burn off her energy. We can’t wait for Patunia to find someone who will spoil her endlessly, because she deserves that and more! ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt her? Story
Ace is a sweet boy but he is overwhelmed by life in the shelter! He will need a kind and gentle adopter to help him build confidence around new places and new people. Ace appears to prefer life as a solo dog, but also may be open to a gentle, quiet canine friend. To help ensure it`s a good fit, we are requiring a doggie meet-and-greet here at the shelter if entering a multi-dog home. Due to his tender nature, HSBV will only rehome him to a family without children or with children over the age of 10.
