Story
Bernie is a sweet, high-energy boy who needs a family ready to give him lots of love and attention. He is a purebred Australian Shepherd with a temperament typical of the breed. He enjoys playing, going on walks, riding in the car, and solving puzzles. Bernie does experience significant separation anxiety, which can lead to destructive or reactive behaviors. He often follows his owners from room to room and prefers to nap as close to his people as possible. He is crate trained and knows the commands sit and come. Bernie attempts to play with our cats, though his play can be too rough. He has bitten a few guests in our home, which we believe is related to protective behavior. He currently spends much of the day in a crate due to our full-time work schedules and would do best with a family that can be home more often. Bernie is taking anxiety medication, and we are actively working with him to reduce his separation anxiety.

Story
Jameson was adopted from Denver Animal Shelter when he was about 2 months old. He has been with me 10 months. He has a lot of energy, and I don't think we are a good fit. He needs a lot of attention and play space. He is crate trained and he likes to just lay in it to relax. Recently I've been leaving him out of the crate while I'm gone and he has done pretty well. Jameson needs a person who can get him out of the house more. He uses a gentle leader for walks and pulls a little. He generally loves meeting new people - he loves going to the brewery. He knows people around the neighborhood who he likes to say hi to for treats. He's a lover and likes to snuggle on the couch. He really just needs a bit more attention than I can give.

Story
My name is Tessa, and I am a 9 year old pure-bred mini Australian Shepherd. I have been with one family for most of my life, but almost 2 years ago one of my humans passed away and my other one couldn't take care of me anymore. I have since been with my new family, but they have little children who make me really anxious and scared. I do best in a calm environment where I am the center of attention. Please no children, unless they are older (12 years +) and know how to be calm around me. I grew up with other pets, and can do well with other dogs, I just need to be slowly introduced. I do love cats and do great with them in the home. I am overall a really sweet girl, and will stick to you like glue once I get to know you! I take anxiety medication currently, and am on a special diet because I am overweight. I am up-to-date on all vaccines and will have a copy of my medical records upon adoption with me.

Meet the Chicken Littles: Brahma, Dominique, Sussex, Silkie, Wyandotte & Leghorn. They are full of personality, charm, and a little bit of farmfresh mischief. With soft coats, bright eyes, and those irresistible ears that tip forward like they’re always listening in on the gossip, these puppies are impossible not to love. Their shepherd/Aussie mix gives them a great blend of intelligence, loyalty, and energy — perfect for families who want a smart, affectionate companion to grow up with. These Chicken Littles are ready to hatch a brand-new life with you. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2654769##

Story
Bruce is a 10-month-old puppy who’s funny, silly, and full of energy. He’s a little wild in a puppy way and absolutely loves being outside—running, exploring, and burning off energy. He would do best with someone who has a backyard and enjoys an active, outdoor lifestyle like hiking or long walks. This isn’t a rushed rehoming. I care deeply about Bruce and am looking for the right fit, not just any home. He deserves someone who can give him space, time, and a lot of love.
