Hi I'm Merlin! I'm a little shy but once you get to know me I'm as sweet as can be. I'm around 6 years old and 45 lbs, and I would do best with a simple, routine life without too much excitement. In fact, I could spend almost all day on the couch with my head on your shoulder. I am vision impaired but once you help me learn where everything is, I do just fine navigating on my own- I'm even crate trained and enjoy having a crate as my "home base". I am perfect with cats and dogs, and would really love a dog friend to help me continue building my confidence. I do need a fenced in yard at my forever home, being on leash is tough for me until I feel super safe and secure. If you're a homebody with a little bit of patience and a gentle soul, I would be the perfect companion for you and I am sure to give you all the love you'll ever need. All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, microchipped and if over 6 months of age, heartworm tested and on heartworm preventative in their foster home. We require an approved application to meet any of our dogs. We do not have a shelter location and will not arrange a meeting without an approved application. We strive to make sure the bios provided for our dogs are complete and accurate; we do understand that mistakes happen, however, so if you absolutely cannot find the answer to your question in the dog's bio, you can contact us for more information. We require a home visit for each dog we adopt out, so we adopt within a 2 hour radius of Dayton, OH. If you are outside of this radius, we encourage you to contact your local rescue or shelter. Penny is a senior beagle who came to OBHR from a local shelter who was seeking a rescue because Penny was thought to be pregnant! Ultrasound and X-rays confirmed great news! Penny is not pregnant! She does however have an old lady pooch of a belly and she has obviously had pups in the past! She is scheduled for a spay on June 25 and will be ready for a new home soon after! She is otherwise in great health and a very happy girl who loves to play and snuggle! She sleeps through the night ok and has done fine in her crate. She has not had an accident in her foster home so appears to be house trained. Penny is guessed to be around 10 years old but still has plenty of play in her! She is being fostered in Columbus. Adoption Process: To meet one our dogs you must first fill out our application on our website ohiobassetrescue.com. Once submitted one of our volunteers will reach out to you. Upon approval you will be given an approval code to email us at ohbassetrescue@yahoo.com. Approvals are good for 6 months for any current or future dogs. After 6 months you will be directed to fill out an updated application. Please note we only process applications where the adopter lives in OH, IN, KY, PA, WV, lower MI. Danica is an 8-year-old, 30 lb beagle mix with big brown eyes who just loves kisses, scratches and cuddles and being close to her people. Her superpowers include being a fast and eager learner, loving all people everywhere, and getting along great with other dogs and her sister cat. She loves to just explore the outdoors and sniff around still. She’s good on a leash. In terms of house training, she’s does good but sometimes can’t make it through the night. With more regularly scheduled potty breaks I think this can be fixed. She loves to love on you and her people and to be rewarded for a good job!
