Story
Layla is 36 lbs and 5-6 years old and also high energy! She loves to chase balls, but needs a few lessons on retrieving. She'll nose you to get you off the couch to play, and will bark at you until you pick up a ball and throw it. This girl is also a fan of belly rubs, which she will reward with kisses. She has a herding instinct, which has mellowed a bit in the past couple of months. She also will need a home without children, cats and small critters. She needs a bit of time to get to know new people and dogs, and we are working with our vet on this. Layla is spayed and fully vaccinated. She will need a fenced yard and an experienced handler with a strong understanding of the breed and a willingness to provide lots of exercise and tennis balls. Story
Laika is 36 lbs and 3-4 years old. This sweet girl loves chasing and often retrieving balls in the house and outdoors. She loves to sniff around off-leash in a fenced back yard. Turn on your garden sprinkler and she will be entertained and exercised. Laika initiates belly runs and gives kisses to her foster mom as a thank you. Laika is more dominant than Layla and has a strong herding drive, so we recommend a home with no children, cats or small critters. She's a little nervous meeting new people and dogs, which we are working on. Laika is spayed and fully vaccinated. She will need a fenced yard and an experienced handler with a strong understanding of the breed and a willingness to provide lots of exercise and tennis balls. Story
Bartleby here! I’m guessed to be about 1 1/2 year old & a border collie mix, & I’ve topped out at about 55lbs. Mom says I’m a very good boy. I sleep quietly through the night, & my manners are impeccable. I get along with my doggy foster siblings - all various sizes & personalities. I don’t live with any cats, but I’ve had interactions with them & am very respectful. I’ll do best in a home with kids over 10 or younger ones who know to be patient with me as I’m a very shy boy until I warm up. Another confident, energetic, & similar-sized dog is mandatory for me - I always look to my foster siblings to tell me what to do in a new situation & they help me feel safe. My new family will need to be patient as I come out of my shell, but the reward is worth the wait. I’m the sweetest boy & love being near my people. I’m looking for a very special family who is willing to go at my pace instead of forcing me to go at theirs. I need a calm home where I can feel safe & continue building my confidence on my time.DATCP# 483538

Story
About Me: INFORMATION  Name: Louie Breed (or best guess): Medium Size mix breed - maybe herding breeds Approximate Age: born 10/19/23 (5 months) Gender: Male Approximate Weight: 3/11/24 17 lb Adoption Fee: $550 Requirements: Loving family with patience to train a puppy Why In Rescue: Texas transfer Update: Louie is the last pup of the litter to be adopted.  He is a loving, playful fun pup that just needs a family to make him happy.  He will still need work on walking on a leash and on housetraining since he has been growing up at the shelter for the last couple months.  He has a smooth short coat that makes him easy to groom and he has enough energy for an active family.  Are you the one Louie has been waiting for? Profile:  Pregnant momma found herself without a family and ended up in a high kill Texas animal control.  Thankfully she went into a foster home and had her babies while she waited to come up to Wisconsin with her pups in tow.  Now Lilly's babies are ready to find home.  We really don't know what mix the pups are, but Momma Lilly looks similar to a Lhasa mix, but has a shedding coat.  All the pups look more like herding breed mixes, and are just adorable with a range of coat types from short and soft, to fluffy, and even one that looks like it may be more wiry or scruffy looking.  They have been raised in a foster home and now ready for homes of their own.  Note:  These puppies will likely shed.  We are guessing they will be smaller-medium sized dogs (mom is around 25 lb), but they could end up being larger since we don't know anything about Daddy or Mom's genetic history. We do put the needs of the dog's first, so it is nothing personal if we determine a particular dog isn't suitable for your specific home and living situation. If considering adopting a former breeding dog, the following article is good to read to help you understand the special needs these dogs may have.  http://nowisconsinpuppymills.com/mill-survivors.html If interested in adoption, the first step is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog  If link isn't clickable, please copy/paste or visit http://www.bichonrescues.com.  Please note, filling out inquiry forms on Petfinder or Adoptapet and/or their application forms does not constitute an application for one of our dogs.  Priority in responding to inquires and applications is always to the applications filled out on our website, time constraints limit the number of other inquires we can reply to. We do our best to evaluate the dogs while they are with us, but they sometimes act different in the shelter environment than they do in a home.  Many times we do not know the actual breed/mix or age of the dog, in that case we use our best guess as to breed and age.   We are located in Mukwonago, WI.  Adopters must come to us, we do not ship our dogs.  Please do not apply for a dog until you are ready to adopt.  Once an application is approved you will be notified by email to make an appointment to meet the dog.  All dogs are seen by appointment only. The adoption fee through Bichon and Little Buddies Rescue is $200 - $550 depending on the age of the dog, which includes Wi State Sales Tax.  Included in this fee is your new companion who will be spayed/neutered, have a current Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (as required by state law), current on age appropriate vaccinations, heartworm tested (if old enough) and started on preventative, microchipped, and given a general wormer.  Other medical needs will also have been taken care of, such as dentals and treating ear infections.  To assist you and your new pet in adjusting to life together, you may chose to take an 8 week age appropriate obedience training course at For Pet's Sake Dog Training in Mukwonago, WI for $75 (up to $230 value).  You may opt to take Puppy Kindergarten, Adult Beginners, or Small Dogs Big Hearts.  You must register for the class within 90 days of adoption for the reduced fee.  For more information on the classes visit www.forpetssake.cc  More important information: ***We are a Wisconsin based rescue and do not ship our pets.  If you are considering adoption you must be willing to drive to meet and adopt the pet, as well as bring the pet back to us if the adoption doesn't work.  We adopt primarily in WI and IL, but will consider applicants in MN, IA, and MI.*** ***Please do not set up an appointment to meet the animals until you are ready to take your pet home.  If the meeting results in a match, you can often take the dog/cat home the same day or within a couple days if the medical care hasn't been completed.  We are not able to hold pets for adopters beyond this time.  Thanks for understanding.*** ***While we hope all of our adoptions lead to permanent homes for the animals we place, sometimes things just don't work out.  We do have a 30 day trial period.  For the first 30 days, if you or Bichon and Little Buddies decide that the adoption isn't a good match for either the humans or the pet, the adoption fee will be refunded minus $75 within 30 days of the return of the dog.  Bichon and Little Buddies also requires adopters to return the pet to us at any time that they are unable or unwilling to care for the animal anymore.*** ***We do not show dogs without an appointment.  The first step in adoption is filling out the pre-adoption application at http://www.bichonrescues.com/pre-adoption-form-dog  Please do not call/email until AFTER you have filled out an application.*** Bichon and Little Buddies is a State Licensed Rescue # 268555-DS April 22, 2024, 11:29 pm

If you are interested in TUESDAY or in adopting a pup in general, the first step is an adoption application. Download an adoption application here Please email the completed application to adoptionteam1.woofriver@gmail.com Please submit an application rather than an inquiry with no application attached. Let TUESDAY teach you how to have fun! This adorable girl always wins Miss Personality paws down! She wakes up happy every morning, ready for whatever love, action or excitement her day will bring. TUESDAY enjoys giving kisses, getting belly rubs and cuddling with dogs and humans. That being said, she also loves her playtime. She is a big fan of toys, romping around the yard and playing with her foster family. Life for her is all about finding someone to shower with adoration and accompany on life's adventures. She is a friendly and affectionate little nugget who is thrilled to go absolutely anywhere your heart desires. Her positive attitude and curious nature makes her the perfect buddy for any of your outdoor adventures. Her $540 adoption fee covers her interstate health certificate and the cost of transport to the midwest For an adoption application on TUESDAY click here Please email the completed application to adoptionteam1.woofriver@gmail.com. It typically takes us around 5 BUSINESS DAYS to process an application. We will reach out to you as soon as your application is processed. Thank you in advance for your patience. All of our dogs start their journey in Memphis, Tennessee where they remain in loving foster families until they are adopted. Once adopted, some pups stay local in Memphis. Many others travel via one of our transport partners to their new forever homes. We use Pet Express Transport (https://petexpresstupelo.wordpress.com) for our Nashville, Knoxville and New England adoptions. For our Midwest adopters, we have our own private transport. Breed selection is done in conjunction with two local vets and is not to be considered a guarantee but rather a well-educated decision from well qualified staff. Due to the extremely high volume of inquiries we receive, we ask that you request, complete, and submit an application before asking additional questions. We try very hard to include all pertinent information in our bios. We are excited to help you find your new family member. However, Woof River is 100% volunteer operated. We want to spend our time saving dogs and assisting those adopters who have taken the time to complete an application. Thank you for understanding. Please LIKE Woof River on Facebook! Thank you for choosing rescue!!

Story
Thumper was 1 day away from getting the needle when he was brought to Wisconsin. Why would a young, beautiful, vibrant dog be next up for euthanasia? Thumper was captured in the mountains of Kentucky with a pack of dogs. He didn’t know, like or trust humans. If you tried to put a leash on him, he would flop around, pull, bite on the leash and paw at it until his feet were bleeding. Because of his fear, you couldn’t pet him as he would hide in the back of the cage.  It took 4 days of dragging Thumper around the yard to get him to accept a leash. Three days later, he was off leash. Because Thumper is a pack dog, he accepts his role in the pack. He quickly became loyal and followed directions.  Thumper is listed as a mixed breed. He looks, acts, and feels like a border collie. He is very smart and shows his personality running in the woods and playing with other dogs. Thumper is NOT a dog that will lay on the couch and eat treats. He must be mentally and physically challenged. Look up border collie if you are unaware of their tendencies. Thumper is estimated to be 2 years old. He has longer soft fur and is knockout gorgeous.  Thumper’s transformation has been phenomenal. He is starting to snuggle with his foster dad. He is allowing other people at work to pet him. Noises rarely startle him.  When Thumper first saw little humans, he ran away barking. He now lets a 2-year-old pet him and is starting to nose bump a baby.  He is very smart and gets along with other dogs. He played with an 8 pound dog and an 80 pound dog. He will stay away from dogs that want to be left alone. When he gets bored, he will explore and be a little mischievous.  If you are interested in Thumper, do some research on border collies so that you know what type of behavior to expect. Animal is Fostered in: Milwaukee, WI For more information, or to apply for adoption, visit our website at: www.RescueOutreach.com Please note the following will be performed on all animals prior to adoption: Microchip Spay/Neuter (unless medically unable at time of adoption, in which case this will be discussed) Heartworm Testing (dogs);    FELV/FIV Testing (cats) Age appropriate CORE vaccines.  Dhpp, Rabies (if old enough)-dog;  CVR, Rabies (if old enough) - cat  - WE DO NOT ADMINISTER BORDETELLA unless indicated.   PLEASE NOTE- puppies and kittens may need to complete vaccination schedule depending on age at time of adoption.   Dewormed All breeds are best guess from veterinarian based on physical exam.  All animals come from high kill shelters with poor access to resources.  Once they arrive to our rescue they are quarantined for health purposes and spoiled in loving foster homes until their forever home is found!  Our organization is operated 100% by volunteers who give their time and love out of the goodness of their hearts.   ##1868248##

Story
Leroy is a handsome 2 month old mixed breed male puppy. His mom was a heeler mix, and his dad is unknown. He has a beautiful soft and thick coat. Leroy is a fun pup who loves people, other dogs, and loves to play. Leroy has been working hard on potty training, but being that he is just a young puppy, his new family should be prepared to do additional potty training while he learns the routine at his new home in WI. He is up to date on vaccines, dewormed and microchipped, and he comes with his medical records and interstate health certificate from a veterinary examination prior to leaving Texas, which certifies him to be in good condition. He will be arriving in Muskego, WI on Friday May 3rd, and will be available to meet, and take home if he is a good fit, by the first family to have placed an exclusive hold deposit as set out below. His adoption fee is $500, which will be used to support the many animals in our care whose medical bills far surpass their much lower adoption fee. He is available for an exclusive hold with a deposit of $250, which we give on a first come, first served, basis. The balance of the adoption fee is due upon meeting/finalizing the adoption. Should you find that he is not a good fit for your family upon meeting, the deposit is refundable.
