Story
Our boy needs a home because of housing situation. He is a sweetheart, loving and loves to cuddle. He is amazing with newborns as well as children. He doesn’t get along with dogs since he does get scared. Loves plushies, he will go around the house with his favorite plushie. He is on science diet because other food will hurt his tummy. He does not shed too much but is totally fine with brushing and nail cutting.

Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Bari and Gigi are a strongly bonded pair of female cats, spayed and up to date on vaccines. Bari has a larger white locket and is estimated to be around 8 months old. Gigi has a smaller white locket and is estimated to be 1 year old. They must go home together. Here’s what their foster volunteer says about them:   How would you describe the cat's general personality? Bari is very friendly and playful. She can be a bit skittish at times, but typically is eager for interaction, loves pets and playing. She is very protective of Gigi, sitting next to the food bowl or litterbox while Gigi is using it, and the two can often be found chattering to each other as they go together to eat or rest. Gigi is more nervous but every week gets more comfortable in showing her sweet personality – she enjoys pets on her terms and if approached calmly will happily headbutt for pets. They both make significant social gains with each passing week, revealing more and more of what will likely be very affectionate personalities once they are more comfortable with their new home.     Does the cat enjoy being pet? Both cats very much enjoy being pet. They prefer to be approached calmly and from a sitting position. If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? head/chin scratches are favored. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? No Does the cat come on your lap? Bari will very briefly venture onto my lap or stay there for a minute when placed. Gigi is not yet comfortable enough. Does the cat like to be held? Bari will accept being held for short periods of time, but prefers to run around and play. I have not tried to hold Gigi. Does the cat sleep in your bed? Bari has ventured up on the bed occasionally and is getting more comfortable approaching me on it. Gigi will lay on the bed, but not when I am there. Does the cat seek your attention? Bari more so than Gigi will seek attention. Bari loves pets and playing. Gigi definitely enjoys pets, but is more nervous and so has taken more time to come out of her shell.   Does the cat like to play? They both love playing and will spend a lot of time playing with each other or with me. What are the cat's favorite games and toys? They absolutely love wand toys and will jump and dash around for anything on a string.   How vocal is the cat? They are extremely vocal, both to me and to each other. What kinds of sounds does the cat make? Bari in particular is full of kitten-esque squeaking when I come home and when she is waiting for food. They both chatter and coo to each other very frequently, often preceding a group trip to another room or to food.   Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Bari uses the scratcher frequently. I have not yet seen Gigi use one. If no, please explain. Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes, always. Even in the early days when they were more tentative about venturing around the house, they would always use the litterbox. If no, please explain.   What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? They both get a 3oz can of wet food in the morning and a snack of wet food in the evening. They share 1 cup of dry food twice daily. Is the cat picky about food? No What is the cat's favorite treat? They absolutely love churrus and temptations.   Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? They have never swatted Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? Gigi has scratched in the process of trying to escape when being put in a carrier, but never appeared to show aggression in any way. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? Bari will nip while playing occasionally Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No   To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? They are both nervous around new people, but can be coaxed out with food/treats.       If you have observed the cat with other animals, please describe how they get on? I have not observed them with other animals.   Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? It’s a joy to watch them interact with each other – they will lay on top of each other, headbutt/rub against each other and chatter throughout the day.   In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? These cats will need a patient and invested new family to bring out their clearly affectionate personalities as they acclimate to indoor, social life. The best part has been watching them grow more comfortable and show more of their personalities. One day, Bari started jumping up on my bed when I wasn’t there, and by the end of the day they were sleeping there together and later that night Bari jumped up for pets. With each passing week they become more outgoing and friendly.   What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? They are both skittish in the setting of their prior outdoor life. They have adapted remarkably well and it has been fun to watch them become more comfortable with each passing week. Letting them interact on their own terms has proved very effective in drawing out their personalities. Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Moxie is a spayed young (approximately 1 year old) Mom cat whose litter has grown up and she’s ready for a home of her own. Here’s what her foster home says about her: How would you describe the cat's general personality? Moxie is gentle, independent, and very sweet with a playful side. Does the cat enjoy being pet? Yes! She will come up to you and flop over nearby so she can get pets. I feel like she loves long pets down her back and cheek and chin scritches. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? I haven't tried the belly much because she was weaning her kittens, so it may be a trap or it might not be. Does the cat come on your lap? Not really. Does the cat like to be held? I haven't tried much, but she generally has squirmed out of my hold. Does the cat sleep in your bed? Not really. Does the cat seek your attention? A bit! She will occasionally follow me around when I'm walking from room to room looking for pets. Does the cat like to play? Yeah!  What are the cat's favorite games and toys? She loves a wand toy and will chase it around quite a bit. How vocal is the cat? Not super vocal. What kinds of sounds does the cat make? She will sometimes make some soft yowls. Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes. I have seen more luck with the horizontal  Does the cat always use the litter box? Generally, yes. We had some issues with a cat peeing on my bed when the family first moved in, but it's unclear if it was Moxie or one of her kittens doing it. The problem seems to have gone away once I moved a litter box into the bedroom. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? Since she's been a new mother, she's been free feeding on Purina One kitten food in kibble.  Is the cat picky about food? She doesn't seem that interested in wet food for whatever reason, but she might just need the right food. What is the cat's favorite treat? She has enjoyed greenies and some dried chicken. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? No. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? No. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? No, but she has made a bit of an attempt when overstimulated from petting. Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? She is understandably shy at first, but after an hour or so, she might come out of hiding around new people.   If you have observed the cat with other animals, please describe how they get on? She has been excellent with her kittens, cleaning them and playing with them, but I haven't observed her with other adult cats or dogs. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? Moxie is such a sweet, gentle girl. I believe once she graduates from motherhood and really settles into someplace she's comfortable, she'll be an excellent companion cat. What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? When she first arrived she was a little bit shy. But it doesn't take very long to overcome this, and it just requires a little bit of patience.   To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  April 29, 2026, 12:28 pm

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Minnow is a 5 year old neutered male, who was surrendered from a home that we’re told they threw things at him, kicked him, and pulled his tail. He has been in his new safe foster home for almost two weeks and is doing really well in trusting his new humans. Here’s what his foster volunteers say about him:   How would you describe the cat's general personality? Affectionate, playful, and a little bit sassy :) He’s a big sweetheart!   Does the cat enjoy being pet? If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? Yes, mostly brief head scratches. He’s starting to accept pets on his back as well.   Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? He doesn’t seem to like being pet close to the base of his tail.   Does the cat come on your lap? No Does the cat like to be held? No Does the cat sleep in your bed? Yes Does the cat seek your attention? Yes   Does the cat like to play? Yes What are the cat's favorite games and toys? He loves our feather wand toy! He’ll chase it for a long time. He also likes smaller toys with catnip.   How vocal is the cat? What kinds of sounds does the cat make? He is fairly vocal. He has the cutest meow (and he loves letting you know when he’s hungry)! We haven’t heard him growl or anything. He meows and purrs (he’s almost always purring, and we can hear it across the room!)   Does the cat scratch a scratcher? If no, please explain. I believe he uses a horizontal cardboard scratcher (I haven’t seen him do it, but there is evidence!) Does the cat always use the litter box? If no, please explain. Yes   What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? 1/3 cup dry food twice a day, and 1/2 can of pate wet food at night with his meds (we use 5.3oz cans of the wet food) Is the cat picky about food? He definitely prefers pate wet food over other types. What is the cat's favorite treat? He LOVES treats, he isn’t too picky!   Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? Yes to both, he sometimes will grab at your leg (usually with claws, sometimes without) randomly as you walk by, but he can be easily distracted with toys.   Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? Yes to both, but it’s easy to tell when he’s about to bite (when he gets overwhelmed with too much petting, which happens pretty fast, for example). He always gives a warning by opening his mouth a bit. Sometimes he’ll bite when he grabs your leg too, though.   To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? Social! He’s very sweet.   If you have observed the cat with other animals, please describe how they get on? He doesn’t seem to like dogs. While he was in his carrier at the vet, a dog got too close and he hissed.   Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? He loves rubbing on people’s legs, he likes hanging out in the same room as people (but sometimes likes his alone time too), and he’s just a gorgeous cat! He has the prettiest eyes.   In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? Minnow is a total sweetheart! He’s adorable and so much fun to play with. It’s hard to think of the best thing about him, but I personally love how loudly and often he purrs.   What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? We’re still working on getting him to bite less (by redirecting him, or no longer showing him attention for a few minutes after he bites), and it seems to be working! I think he just needs time to settle in before he can be fully comfortable and not feel the need to scratch or bite.   To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  April 29, 2026, 12:28 pm

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston Stevie is a sweet 6 year old female spayed cat, looking for a calm home. Here’s what her foster volunteer says about her: How would you describe the cat's general personality? Stevie is an incredibly soft, gentle cat with a very sweet and shy personality. She is quiet and calm by nature and prefers a peaceful environment. While she may take time to feel comfortable, once she settles in she is affectionate and enjoys being near her person. Does the cat enjoy being pet? Yes, Stevie really enjoys being pet and finds it very comforting. If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? She especially likes being pet on her head and along her back. Gentle, slow pets are her favorite. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? She does not like her belly being brushed or touched and can become uncomfortable if that area is handled. Does the cat come on your lap? No, Stevie does not sit on laps. She prefers to stay close without being directly on top of people. Does the cat like to be held? No, she does not enjoy being held and feels safest when all four paws are on the ground. Does the cat sleep in your bed? No, she does not sleep in the bed and prefers to sleep in her own comfortable, quiet spaces. Does the cat seek your attention? Yes, Stevie does seek attention in her own gentle way. She will come over for pets when she feels comfortable and enjoys calm companionship. Does the cat like to play? No, she is not very playful and has a low energy level. What are the cat's favorite games and toys? She does not show much interest in toys or games very often but sometimes she likes to play with the stick toys with strings and ribbons on the end.  How vocal is the cat? Stevie is mildly vocal. She may meow during the day, but not very often or very loudly. What kinds of sounds does the cat make? She primarily meows softly. Does the cat scratch a scratcher? No. If no, please explain. She has a scratching post on her cat tree but does not typically use it. Does the cat always use the litter box? She uses pee pads consistently. If no, please explain. Stevie always uses her pee pads. If there are any accidents, they are usually due to debris getting caught in her long hair rather than a behavioral issue. She does have hairballs on the floor fairly regularly. What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? Stevie eats dry food that is left out for her to snack on throughout the day and is refilled nightly. Is the cat picky about food? She is not picky and eats her regular food well. What is the cat's favorite treat? She sometimes enjoys Churus as well as wet food or cat soup as an occasional treat. Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? No, she has never swatted. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? No. Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? No. Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? Stevie is extremely fearful of new people. She is most comfortable when the home is quiet and it is just her and her caregiver present. When others are around, she prefers to keep to herself and should have a quiet, safe space to retreat to. If you have observed the cat with other animals, please describe how they get on? She has not been observed with other animals, so her compatibility with pets is unknown. In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? Stevie is incredibly cute, gentle, and sweet. Once she becomes comfortable, she is a wonderful presence to have around and makes a calm, soothing companion. She would be perfect for someone who appreciates a quiet, affectionate cat. What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? Stevie’s biggest challenge is her fear of new people and loud noises, so she needs a quiet, calm home. She also has long fur that is prone to matting and does not like being brushed.   To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.  April 29, 2026, 12:28 pm
