Story
Meet John, a sweet and spunky 2-year-old chi mix with a heart of gold and a bit of a wobble in his step. Weighing in at 20 pounds, John is a gentle soul who loves attention, stuffed squeaky toys, veggie-based treats, and being told he’s a good boy. He’s potty trained, crate trained at night, and communicates when he needs to go outside by going to the door. Though visually impaired and managing a seizure condition (just one pill three times a day), John remains playful and full of character—he’s especially known for his charming prance and love of praise. John would thrive in a calm, low-stimulation home where he can feel safe and relaxed. A securely fenced yard is ideal, as walks can be overwhelming for him. He prefers being the only dog in the home. An experienced and understanding adopter would be the best match. With his loving nature and big personality, John is sure to bring warmth and joy to a home that embraces his special needs and sweet spirit. Apply to meet John today!

Story
Meet Roo! — an affectionate, big-eared sweetheart who’s been patiently waiting for the perfect family to find him. Roo is an almost 5-year-old, 15-pound Chihuahua mix with expressive ears and the softest, most hopeful eyes. He's been waiting for quite some time for his forever home. Roo is a bit shy at first, but once he feels safe, he blossoms into one of the most affectionate, loyal companions you could ever hope for. He bonds deeply to his human and loves nothing more than cuddling up close, burrowing under blankets, and staying by your side. At home, Roo is calm, sweet, and easy to love. He enjoys small dog friends, does great with kids, and is both crate trained and house trained. Roo struggles with leash walks and can feel insecure outside of a fenced space, so he needs a home with a secure backyard where he can relax and explore without pressure. Roo isn’t just another dog looking for a home — he’s a dog who will adore someone with his whole heart. Apply to meet Roo today!

Story
Puppy Chulo found himself at the  shelter when his person passed away, luckily he had the company of his canine brother to cuddle with. He is about 4.5 years old and 17 pounds. Puppy Chulo is very friendly with people, other dogs, cats and kids. He has a toddler foster sister that sometimes becomes too much for him, but   he just go to his safe place, his crate, where she knows she has to leave him alone. He loves to run and play with his brother or other dogs, but also loves to sit in a lap, or to spend time just laying in the sun. He is a barker, but listens when told to stop. He is potty trained and leashed trained. Chulo can be a picky eater. He loves car rides, trips to the pet store, meeting people, camping trips, participating in dog races, in fact - you name it and he is game to try it out. Puppy Chulo will provide his family with tons of entertainment. If Chulo is not adopted with his brother, we think he could do OK as an only dog if not left alone too often, and if he gets regular visits to the dog park. Grateful Dogs Rescue incurs substantial veterinary and other expenses in rescuing our dogs. In order to recoup some of these costs, we request a tax-deductible donation for each adoption. The suggested donation for Puppy Chulo is $300. If you are interested in adopting  Puppy Chulo , please complete our online adoption application at  https://www.gratefuldogsrescue.org/adoption-process/   . One of our volunteers will get back to you. Adoptions are local, confined to the SF Bay Area. See our other available dogs at   https://www.gratefuldogsrescue.org/available-dogs/ Puppy Chulo is being fostered in Rohnert Park. September 4, 2025, 4:44 pm

Story
Brothers ChiChi Junior and Puppy Chulo found themselves at the  shelter when their person passed away. With all those changes, it is understandable why they didn't do  well in the shelter, but they reverted right into being fun, happy dogs in foster care. They are about 4.5 years old and 17 pounds each. They are both very friendly with people, other dogs, cats and kids. They have a toddler foster sister that sometimes becomes too much for them, but they just go to their safe place, their crate, where she knows she has to leave them alone. They love to run and play together and they sleep together in their crate, but really love to sleep under the covers in bed. They are barkers, but listen when you tell them to stop. They are potty trained and leashed trained. They are picky eaters, especially Puppy Chulo, the one with the white muzzle. They love car rides, trips to the pet store, meeting people, camping trips, participating in dog races, in fact - you name it and these brothers are probably game to try it out. If you are looking for a fun pair to give you lots of entertainment, these could be your boys! Grateful Dogs Rescue incurs substantial veterinary and other expenses in rescuing our dogs. In order to recoup some of these costs, we request a tax-deductible donation for each adoption. The suggested donation for ChiChi Junior and Puppy Chulo is $500.
