When a mama dog was run over by a car, leaving behind puppies, a rescuer stepped up to save the little ones. First up is Cashew. He IS a little nut, but he’s sweet and tender too! He was the one puppy of the four that hid so well, he almost wasn’t saved. He came to me several hours after the other three, after the second search. He is the biggest. He is also the one with the most tender heart who takes the word NO!! most seriously (if only for a minute), the one most EAGER for interaction- the one who is most excited to have a person playing with him. DNA results for the pups came back saying they are mostly Chihuahua and Cattle Dog. Cashew weighed in at 7.4 pounds on 12/30 but we expect the dogs to weigh 18 to 31 pounds when fully grown. Little Miss Truly was just rescued from a shelter in Texas by NorthStar. She is such an affectionate little gal - at the shelter she would greet all visitors at the front of her kennel, hoping for a touch or a pet. Truly is about 8 years old and weighs only 9 pounds. She is sight impaired but we believe she can see shadows. Truly has now arrived in NJ and she is settling in at her new foster home. The cats in the home are very interested but still won’t get too close. She enjoys being outside and constantly has her nose up in the or in the grass air to smell things. Truly experienced snow on the grass this morning and she didn’t seem to care. Truly still has her tail tucked most of the time but it’s high in the air with butt scratches or side of the face scratches. Story

Hi, I’m Pancake — yes, like the breakfast food, but I am in fact a dog. I recently left a shelter in Texas, and now I’m living in a foster home while I look for my forever humans. I’m somewhere between 6–9 years old and I weigh 7 pounds, so I fit nicely on laps, pillows, and in those little gaps between couch cushions. Let me tell you a bit about myself. First, I’m a big fan of the cozy lifestyle. I enjoy sleeping under blankets, on top of blankets, and occasionally inside blankets (it’s a strategy). I will happily accept belly rubs, and I do this very cute soft snoring thing when I’m relaxed. My foster says I’m “a doll,” and I’m choosing to believe that’s a compliment. I like being held, I like gentle pets, and I’m polite with new humans. I’m not a wild child — I’m more of a “let’s take it easy and enjoy the little things” kind of guy. Now, because honesty matters: I am not house-trained yet. I do go to the bathroom indoors. I promise I’m not trying to redecorate — I just haven’t figured out the rules yet. I will need someone who can help me learn, or someone who already knows their way around belly bands, washable floors, or frequent outdoor breaks. Medically speaking, I’ve had two seizures — one at the shelter and one when I first arrived in foster care. I’m now on medication to help manage that. I also have luxating patellas (that means my knees are a little quirky), but they don’t affect my day-to-day fun. Despite all this, I’m truly loving life right now — good food, safe humans, warm naps, and soft blankets. I don’t ask for much other than kindness, patience, and a place where I can keep perfecting my snuggle skills. If you’re looking for a tiny senior dude with big heart energy, I might be your guy.
