This is sweet little Tippy! Tippy is a five pound bundle of love. She is about 7 years old. Tippy was surrendered to us when her owner passed away and her family could no longer care for her. Right before she entered our care, she jumped off of something that was too high for her and she broke her paw. While this has not slowed Tippy down, we have had to take extra precautions with her to ensure that she makes a full recovery. Tippy gets weekly splint/cast changes at our vet partners office. She is also on pain medication to help with her healing; although we are beginning to decrease the amount of medication and she is doing very well! We believe that she will need 1-2 more months of recovery before she will get clearance from the vet. We try to keep Tippy as calm as possible without too much jumping or running around. She walks well with her little splint, but we limit how much she is walking around. This is not too much of a problem because Tippy's favorite place to be is in her foster mom's arms.
Tippy spends her time between two foster homes. In one home, Tippy has a little more freedom. She has a large space to roam, but we do not allow her to go up and down stairs. She is with one person in this home and there are no other pets. She loves the low-key life in this foster home. Sometimes Tippy also spends time in another foster home, In this home, there are other dogs that live with her. While Tippy does not mind the company of the other dogs, she does not like when they get too excited. We believe she would do best as an only pet or she would likely be fine with another dog or cat that is super chill. In this home there are also multiple people. Tippy is a typical Chihuahua. She will attach herself to one person and want to be with them. She doesn't mind the other people in the household, but she definitely wants "her person" when that person is home.
Tippy is crate trained, but in both homes she has a pen that she sleeps in at night. She sleeps through the night in her pen which is in the bedroom where her foster mom sleeps. She does have a large crate that she stays in in one foster home when her foster mom is away; in the other home she has a larger pen that she stays in. Because of Tippy's size, we do not recommend small children. Older children (13 and above) would be okay as long as they will respect Tippy's space when she needs it.
Tippy has had so much change in her little life the last few months. She has adjusted so well in each situation, but it's time for Tippy to find her forever home. She needs a Chihuahua savvy family who will understand what she wants or needs. She gives clear signals. Tippy is wee-wee pad trained. She is very clean and neat. She will let you know when she has to go, so we do feel that once her paw is healed and she can walk around outside, there is a good chance she could be partially trained to go outside as well. She will need a little patience at first when meeting a new person. She can be a little shy. It doesn't take too long for her to understand that you are her friend. We also believe that once Tippy has completely healed, she will love to go for walks outside. She will also likely love a good game of fetch. (She is just not allowed to do that right now). She is spunky, sassy, and sweet and cuddly all in one.
Tippy will not be ready to go to her forever home until she is completely healed, but we want to start the process of finding her forever home. If you think that you could provide the loving home that Tippy deserves, please fill out an application for her.
Tippy is spayed and up-to-date on vaccinations.
