Story
Meet Cruiser! Cruiser is an 8-year-old, 72.8-pound APBT mix who found himself at the shelter through no fault of his own. This laid-back gentleman is housetrained, crate trained, and was said to do well with both kids and other dogs in his previous home. Right now, Cruiser is a bit nervous in the shelter environment—it’s a big change for a sweet, mellow guy like him. He allows handling from staff and is slowly starting to settle in. Out in the play yards, he begins to relax and show glimpses of his soft, loving personality. Cruiser may be quiet and unsure right now, but we can already tell there’s a big-hearted dog waiting to shine. He’s looking for a calm, patient home where he can feel safe, loved, and finally show the world who he really is. We do all adoptions with approved applicants by appointment only. If you are interested in adopting, please contact us via FB Messenger or email us at jcasreception@johnsoncounty.in.gov for an application. You can also find one on our website at http://johnsoncountyanimalshelter.com/adopt /. Once an application is submitted and approved, we can set an appointment to meet the pet! Story
Don’t let Rome’s age fool you — this boy has plenty of pep in his step! With tons of spunk and a playful spirit, he’s proof that age is just a number. Rome loves to show off his tricks (his “shake” is a crowd favorite!), enjoys chasing toys, and is always up for a good game of tug. When the games are done, Rome is all about the love. Belly rubs, ear scratches, snuggles — he soaks it all up and gives it right back with the kind of sweet devotion only a seasoned dog can offer. If you’re looking for a best friend who’s equal parts fun and affection, Rome is ready to shake your hand — and your heart. If you are interested in learning more about Rome, please call 812-988-7362 or submit an adoption application at the link below. After the application is received, an adoption counselor can reach out to you directly. https://www.bchumane.org/adoption-application/ October 3, 2025, 1:31 pm

Story
Meet Max! This 1-year-old, 46-pound Shepherd mix is playful, sweet, and full of life! Max was recently adopted but returned through no fault of his own—his playful energy was just a little too much for the resident dog. Now he’s back and ready to find a home that’s the perfect match for his bouncy spirit. Max loves kids and is a big-time snuggler who adores his people. He’s active, curious, and happiest when he’s exploring the world, playing fetch, tugging on toys, or zooming around the yard. He also enjoys winding down with some quiet time—he’s the best of both worlds! His previous family said he does okay in a crate and does well with a routine, but he doesn’t love being left alone for long stretches—he’s a social pup who thrives with companionship and engagement. Here at the shelter, Max has continued to show us just how friendly, fun, and loving he truly is. He’s looking for a home that can keep up with his energy, provide mental stimulation, and offer a consistent schedule to help him settle in and shine. If you're ready for a loyal adventure buddy with a heart full of love and a whole lot of goofiness—Max is your guy! ?? We do all adoptions with approved applicants by appointment only. If you are interested in adopting, please contact us via FB Messenger or email us at jcasreception@co.johnson.in.us for an application.
