LUCIOUS

American Pit Bull Terrier

Male, 11 yrs
Indianapolis, IN
Size
(when grown) Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)
Details
Good with kids, Good with dogs, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Lucious is an older gentleman who seems to be carrying the weight of a lot of uncomfortable medical issues while still trying his best to quietly navigate the world around him. He enjoys treats, likes spending time in the yard, rides well in the car, and reportedly lived peacefully with both children and other small dogs. Staff noted that while he is more reserved and independent than openly affectionate, he has allowed handling and gentle interaction without major issues. There is something very endearing about dogs like Lucious who do not demand attention but still seem comforted by calm voices, patient people, and simple kindness. Lucious will need an adopter or rescue willing to provide continued veterinary care and thoughtful support as he manages chronic skin disease, ear issues, dental disease, arthritis, and multiple masses. He can become uncomfortable with prolonged handling, which is understandable given how much physical discomfort he is likely experiencing, so he will do best with someone who respects his boundaries and helps him feel safe. Senior dogs with medical needs are often overlooked, but they have so much heart left to give. Lucious deserves a soft bed, steady care, gentle hands, and the chance to spend his golden years finally feeling comfortable and understood. All adoptions include support from our adoption team to ensure a smooth transition from the shelter to your home. Adopted pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before leaving the shelter`s care. Story
Sabroso is a quiet, sensitive dog who has been slowly learning that the world around him can be safe again. The shelter environment has been overwhelming for him, and at first he kept his distance, moving cautiously and avoiding interaction whenever possible. But little by little, he has started to let people in. He now tolerates petting all over, offers soft eye contact, lingers near handlers, and has even begun showing small tail wags and moments of curiosity. Those tiny breakthroughs mean a lot for a dog like Sabroso, because every bit of trust has clearly been hard-earned. One thing that consistently brings Sabroso out of his shell is the presence of other dogs. Around calm canine companions, he becomes noticeably more confident, relaxed, and engaged with his surroundings. He initiates greetings politely, walks with more purpose, and even seems more willing to connect with people after watching another dog interact safely first. Sabroso feels like a dog who is going to continue blossoming once he is in a patient home with a predictable routine and, ideally, another friendly dog to help guide him. Watching a shy dog slowly discover confidence is one of the most rewarding experiences there is, and Sabroso seems ready for someone willing to take that journey with him. All adoptions include support from our adoption team to ensure a smooth transition from the shelter to your home. Adopted pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before leaving the shelter`s care. Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Reno has the kind of personality that makes people smile almost immediately. He ran right up to say hello, tried climbing into the truck by himself, and has continued to make it very clear that he would much rather be hanging out with people than sitting alone in a kennel. He is affectionate, social, and full of personality, with a confident little spark that makes him hard not to notice. Reno seems happiest when he is getting attention, soaking up affection, and being included in whatever is going on around him. The shelter environment has been a bit overwhelming for him at times, especially with all the noise and activity from other dogs nearby, but even then he continues to show people just how friendly he is. Reno feels like the type of dog who will settle into home life quickly once he has consistency, comfort, and people to call his own. He is ready to trade shelter stress for couch time, walks, snacks, and all the attention he thinks he deserves, which, frankly, is probably a lot. All adoptions include support from our adoption team to ensure a smooth transition from the shelter to your home. Adopted pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before leaving the shelter`s care. Story
Nicholas is the kind of dog who makes himself comfortable in your heart very quickly. He is affectionate, social, and absolutely convinced that butt scratches should be a full-time job for his humans. He enjoys meeting people, already knows several commands, and has the confidence of a dog who assumes everyone he meets might become his new best friend. He has done well out on walks, enjoys exploring, and has shown relaxed, friendly body language while spending time with staff. Nicholas also appears to have a goofy side, especially when attention is involved, and he is not shy about asking for more love once he knows you are willing to give it. Nicholas is looking for a home that understands him and can help set him up for success. He would likely do best as the only pet in the home, where he does not have to worry about sharing food, toys, or attention with other animals. In return, he is more than ready to soak up all the love for himself. He has lived with children and was described as doing well with them, and despite some sore hips and a dislike of having his feet handled, he still approaches life with enthusiasm and a strong desire to connect with people. Nicholas is one of those dogs who will thrive with structure, consistency, and someone willing to appreciate him for exactly who he is: a loyal, affectionate dog who wants a home where he can finally relax and just be somebody`s beloved companion. All adoptions include support from our adoption team to ensure a smooth transition from the shelter to your home. Adopted pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before leaving the shelter`s care. DUDE

American Pit Bull Terrier

Size
(when grown) Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)

Good with dogs, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Dude may have had a rough introduction to shelter life, but once he had a chance to settle in, an entirely different side of him began to shine through. Staff quickly started seeing tail wags at the kennel front, calm body language, and a dog who was more than happy to climb right into a lap for affection once he felt comfortable. He already knows cues like sit and paw, takes treats politely, and seems to genuinely enjoy quiet moments with people he trusts. There is something especially touching about a dog who goes from uncertainty to leaning into pets with his whole body once he realizes he is safe. Dude feels like the kind of companion who will bond deeply with the people willing to give him a little patience and understanding at the beginning. He can be cautious in new situations, but once he warms up, he has shown himself to be affectionate, gentle, and eager for connection. He has tolerated handling and medical care well, and staff described him as loose, relaxed, and social outside of the kennel environment. For the right adopter, Dude is the type of dog who could become an incredibly loyal shadow, happily following his people around and climbing into their lap the second they sit down. All adoptions include support from our adoption team to ensure a smooth transition from the shelter to your home. Adopted pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before leaving the shelter`s care. Story
Meet Quinlan,Quinlan is a resilient, three-legged sweetheart with a heart as big as her wiggle-waggles! This lovable pup is the perfect mix of playful bursts and laid-back charm—she’ll zoom around one minute, then happily claim your couch spot for a cozy nap the next.Quinlan adores her people and thrives on companionship. She’s affectionate, gentle, and easygoing when handled—you can pet her anywhere, and she’ll happily soak up the love. While she hasn’t met young kids yet, she greets new people with enthusiasm as long as her trusted humans set the tone.Like many young pups, she’s still learning—she can get a little mouthy when excited, but she redirects easily to her beloved stuffed toys. Treats and positive reinforcement go a long way with this smart girl, especially for leash training. She’s a low-energy girl overall, happiest with short play sessions, lots of snuggles, and a comfy place to relax. Quinlan does best in a cat-free home and will need some guidance around other dogs, as she can be a bit intense (though likely curious!).Quinlan’s joyful spirit and loving nature make her truly special. With continued training, she could even shine as a therapy dog—imagine her inspiring others with her strength and sweet personality. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will fill your days with love, laughter, and the occasional stolen seat on the couch, Quinlan is ready to meet you. This animal is staying in a foster home and is not at the shelter. Please put in an inquiry and an adoption counselor will contact you with the next steps. Adoptions are free and include support from our adoption team to ensure a smooth transition from the shelter to your home. Adopted pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before leaving with you. To view our current available animals, please visit: https://indy.gov/activity/adopt-a-pet.
