Story
Hannah was found as a stray in Indianapolis, IN. She is completely housebroken and loves to play ball. She was very stressed and sad while in the animal shelter. She has perked up significantly after coming to SOAR Initiative, but we can tell she is really missing being in a home with her own person. She is cautious and shy and first but warms up quickly. She has great leash manners. She is quiet in her room and has never torn up anything other than tiny bits of fluff from her beloved tennis balls. Her ideal situation is a quiet home where she can snuggle up to a person and be peaceful and loved. She would do well with older kids or older, settled (or lower energy) dogs. She has been around children in our care and has been a little startled by sudden movements from toddler aged kids. She has been around other dogs without major issues, but was visibly stressed by an overenthusiastic young pup that jumped up and tried to mount her. She has been fully treated and cleared for heartworm and underwent an FHO for a hip injury that she has recovered from beautifully.

Story
Abe came from the shelter reported as a "senior" that was estimated to be 10yr old. This was based primarily on the condition of his teeth, which was admittedly not good. Once he arrived he revealed himself to be a big puppy at heart. He loves all people including kids. He knows several commands and is housebroken. He loves to play with other dogs. We aren't sure how old he really is, but he is certainly not 10! He is full of love and life and would love nothing more than his own family to love on. He has had a full dental cleaning complete with needed extractions, as well as neuter and benign mass removal. He eats dry food without any issues. He is up to date on vaccines. Cat test available on request.

Story
Winnie is a beautiful pitty girl looking for a particular home. She came to us after being found living in an abandoned van in a junkyard. She was thin and not in the best shape after fending for herself on the streets, She was under-socialized and unsure about people. We were not sure if she would be adoptable. After many weeks working with Winnie, she had her favorite people she was eager to please, but still struggled with more than one human at a time, and showed some nervous behaviors. After consulting with our vet, we decided to try Prozac, which has worked wonders for our Winnie girl! Winnie would do best in a home with an owner who is educated about the stigma pit bulls face in society, and who can make sure she has a spot in their home and family for her entire life anyways. She would prefer an adult only home, without other animals, that is willing to make her the “kiddo” of the family. Winnie does not seem to be a big fan of children and we will not adopt her into a home with children of any any age or regular kiddo visitors. She will need continued training and to stay on Prozac or to consult with your own vet about alternative anxiety medications that can help her continue to live her best life. Winnie loves walks in the world, creek stomping, car rides, snuffle mats, and things she can chew. She has done well here going outside if let out on regular schedule and doesn’t destroy her furniture in her room. She will destroy stuffies and sissy toys with glee. Winnie is looking for a human who wants a loyal best friend that doesn’t have a perfect past, but is committed to a beautiful forever.

Story
We rescued Doyle from our local shelter as we suspected an obstruction. He received surgery, in which several things were found, including foam and screws. He has recovered nicely from the procedure and has gained over 20lbs! He has had no interested in eating anything other than food since his surgery. We suspect he was starved, and resorted to eating whatever he could find at the time. Doyle is delightful, friendly and low energy. He has no clue that he doesn't fit in your lap, and wants nothing more than to flop his body all over you in lovings! If you have kids, we would recommend children over the age of 10, as he is a big boy!

Feather

Rat Terrier Chihuahua

Male, 2 yrs 8 mos
Indianapolis, IN
Size
(when grown) Small 25 lbs (11 kg) or less
Details
Spayed or Neutered,
Story
We originally fostered Feather so that his mom could get help with chronic and severe mental health concerns. She was feeling much better after care, but quickly needed it again. Feather's needs seem to be a trigger for amplifying that, and she asked for him to be rehomed so he could be cared for as he deserves. He is stand-offish at first, but once you earn a connection (chicken helps), he's quite delightful. He will do well with someone who can get him confident and show him the world is a fun place! He may be okay with children 10 and over - as he has had some contact during his stay here. He does prefer smaller, calmer dogs and can be spicy to set his boundaries. He would be able to adjust fine to a dog he considers a safe friend.
