Story
Bridgette is a 3-year-old, medium-sized mixed breed (possibly a Lab cross) with a sweet soul and an easygoing nature. She came to the shelter as an unclaimed stray, but it’s clear she’s ready to leave her past behind and start a new chapter with a loving family. This lovely girl is well-mannered in her kennel, truly enjoys human company, and greets everyone she meets with enthusiasm and affection. Bridgette has also enjoyed a playful romp with a male dog and may do well in a home with another friendly canine companion. Overall, she seems to be a fairly even-keeled, well-tempered dog who could fit nicely into many different home environments. Because her history is largely unknown, especially around young children, a home with older kids or adults may be the best match for her. Bridgette appears to have had a litter in the past, and now it’s her turn to be doted on and cared for. Bridgette would benefit from obedience classes to help her build new skills and polish her manners. She’s very food-motivated, making positive reinforcement training a great and fun way for her to learn. She would love daily neighborhood walks or weekend hikes—especially fitting, since she was found near the beautiful Albion Falls! If you’re looking for a friendly, affectionate, and adaptable companion, Bridgette might just be your perfect match. She’s patiently waiting to find a forever family to share her happy, balanced spirit with for the rest of her life. She will be ready for her forever home after she has recovered from this surgery. Animal adoptions and viewing are by appointment only. This allows our Adoption Staff to spend quality time with each potential home to ensure the most successful matches are made between the animals and their new families. *Please note: we only adopt within Ontario

Story
Apollo is a 2.5-year-old Malinois/Mastiff mix with a big brain, big energy, and an even bigger heart. He came to us as a stray, but he’s now ready to blast off into his forever home with the right co-pilot by his side. This handsome guy thrives on mental and physical stimulation—Apollo doesn’t just want a walk, he wants a mission. Training sessions, structured exercise, enrichment toys, learning new skills… that’s his happy place. When he’s bored, he may invent his own entertainment (and trust us, you probably won’t approve), so an active, engaged household is a must. Apollo knows sit and is eager to learn more, but he’ll benefit greatly from consistent obedience training. He can pull on leash and greets people with enthusiastic gusto, so clear boundaries and guidance will help him channel that excitement into good manners. The good news? He’s smart, motivated, and absolutely capable of becoming an exceptional companion with the right structure. He did wonderfully meeting other dogs and may do best with a canine buddy who can help burn off energy and show him the ropes. A confident dog sibling could be the perfect workout partner. Apollo is not a beginner dog, but for someone experienced with high-drive, high-energy dogs, he’s a dream in the making. If you enjoy working with dogs that are smarter than most people, love training as bonding time, and see the journey as part of the fun—you’ll find Apollo incredibly rewarding. With patience, consistency, and daily outlets for both his brain and body, Apollo will repay you with loyalty, devotion, and endless enthusiasm. He’s looking for someone who understands that greatness takes investment—and is excited to build something amazing together. Ready for a little adventure? Apollo is waiting. Story
Hi, I’m Lucky — thanks for coming to my interview! Interviewer: Lucky, tell us about yourself. Lucky: Great question. I’m a 2-year-old Lab / American Bully mix with lots of energy, a big personality, and an even bigger love for life. If there’s something happening, I want to be part of it. If there’s nothing happening… I can help fix that Interviewer: What’s a perfect day for you? Lucky: Adventures! Walks where I get to sniff everything, training time (especially if snacks are involved), and play sessions with my true love: tennis balls. Squeaky ones. Bouncy ones. If it squeaks and flies, I’m obsessed. Other toys? Meh. Tennis balls have my heart. Interviewer: Do you know any commands? Lucky: I do! I know sit and paw already—pretty impressive, right? I’m super food-motivated and really eager to learn more. I’ll admit, though, I can get excited and strong, especially on leash. That’s why continued obedience training is important for me. With consistency, structure, and positive reinforcement, I’m going to shine. Interviewer: What kind of home are you looking for? Lucky: An active one! I’d love a family who enjoys staying busy, going on outings, and including me in their daily routine. I need both mental and physical exercise every day to keep my energy balanced and my brain happy. Training + fun = my dream life. Interviewer: How do you feel about other dogs? Lucky: I came in with another dog, so having a canine buddy might help me burn off energy—but slow, supervised introductions are the way to go. I like thoughtful approaches. Interviewer: Anything adopters should know about your past? Lucky: I’m starting fresh. My past had some inconsistency—no real routine, not much structure, and a lot of figuring things out on my own. Things like house manners and crate training may be new to me or need a refresher. What I really need now is clear boundaries, predictable routines, and someone who knows dogs and wants to help me grow. Interviewer: Final thoughts? Lucky: I have so much potential. With the right person—someone patient, active, and excited about training—I’m going to be an incredible companion. If you’re ready to put in the time, energy, and love to help me be my best self…I just might be the girl for you Interview concluded. Tennis ball requested. Story
At just 4 months old, Romeo is a handsome young pup with so much potential waiting to bloom! This sweet boy came to us as an unclaimed stray, and while we don’t know much about his early life, we’re excited to help him find the loving home he deserves. Romeo is currently a fairly neutral, easygoing puppy. He’s quiet in his kennel, enjoys his meals (very much!), and hasn’t shown the typical over-the-top puppy zoomies just yet. We suspect that once he settles into a home environment and has time to decompress, his playful and affectionate personality will truly come to life. Let’s Talk About Food Romeo has a great appetite and is very enthusiastic about food. We’ve seen some early signs of possible food and toy resource insecurity, which is not uncommon for puppies who have experienced uncertainty. The good news? At this young age, these behaviors can absolutely be reshaped with the right guidance and consistency. His new family will need to: Incorporate hand feeding and food-based training games Practice “trade up” exercises (trading low-value items for high-value rewards) Use meals as opportunities for training and patience-building Reinforce that good things happen when people (and other pets) are near his food, toys, and treats These exercises should become part of everyday life—not just feeding time—to help Romeo learn that resources are safe and plentiful. With consistency from day one, we are confident he can grow into a secure and well-mannered companion. Home Life & Training Romeo will need: Potty training Crate training (highly recommended, as he may be tempted to counter or garbage surf) Immediate enrollment in obedience classes to help him build strong manners and confidence He is expected to be a large dog when fully grown, making early training and structure especially important. We believe Romeo may thrive in a home with a confident, well-adjusted dog companion who can help show him the ropes. Due to his strong interest in food, homes with very small children (who may have snacks within reach) may not be the best fit. The Bottom Line Romeo is a young pup with a blank slate and so much promise. With patience, structure, and positive reinforcement, he has all the makings of a loyal, loving, and well-mannered big boy. He just needs a family committed to guiding him as he learns that the world is safe, food is plentiful, and he never has to worry again. If you’re ready to invest in a smart, food-motivated pup who will grow into an incredible companion, Romeo is ready to meet you! Story
Meet May!! (case #7136) Age: 2 years Vibe: Gentle, loving, and ready to be your new best friend May is a sweet girl with a heart as big as her adorable smile. She came to us as an unclaimed stray, but she’s quickly shown everyone that she’s all about affection, kindness, and making human friends. She loves attention, is very easy to handle, and has a calm, gentle nature that makes her a joy to be around. This smart pup already knows some basic commands and is eager to please—she’s the kind of dog who wants to do the right thing. With a little polishing through formal obedience classes, May will shine even brighter while learning household routines and building a strong bond with her future family. May has done great meeting our helper dog and showed polite, appropriate social skills during introductions. She may be happy sharing her home with another dog, as long as slow, on-leash introductions and positive interactions continue. Overall, May is a friendly, well-mannered girl who would thrive in a home that offers companionship, structure, and ongoing training. Her only health note is that she’s a bit overweight—but she’s ready to work on that with regular walks, playtime, and a loving family cheering her on. If you’re looking for a loving, loyal companion with a gentle soul, May might just be your perfect match. Story
Kane’s story hasn’t been the easiest — but you’d never know it by the way he greets the people he trusts. Over time, Kane has shown us just how resilient he is. Instead of declining in a kennel setting, he’s steadily improved, proving that with patience and structure, he truly shines. And shine he does. Kane is absolutely adored by staff and volunteers. He’s the kind of dog that wins hearts quietly — with soft eyes, a gentle mouth when taking treats, and the sweetest little bum wiggle when meeting new friends. He’s very food motivated (training treats are the way to his heart!) and loves working for his rewards. That motivation, paired with consistency and positive reinforcement, will make him a rockstar in obedience training. He walks beautifully on leash and checks in with his handler, especially when there’s a snack involved. Like many bully mixes, Kane starts outings with a burst of enthusiasm — but don’t worry, he’s not a marathon runner! After about 500 meters, he’s happy to slow down, sniff the world, and lean in for cuddles. His canicross experience brought glowing reviews: “Kane — What a perfect dog. He has nice manners and appeared more relaxed in a new environment. He has a super calm temperament and was uninterested in neighbouring dogs excitedly barking. He greeted new pups with a bum wiggle, stood calmly while his harness was slipped on and off, and after a short run was happy to sniff and cuddle. I feel very lucky to have run with him and hope he isn’t at the shelter long.” He even rode calmly crated in the backseat while another male dog was loose in the vehicle — settling beautifully and showing wonderful composure. Kane seems to thrive with structure and routine. In a home that provides clear expectations, continued training, and plenty of love, he will absolutely blossom. With proper, slow introductions, he may do well with a doggy friend, especially one who appreciates a polite, easygoing companion. At five years old, Kane is past the puppy chaos but still full of life and love to give. He’s ready for a family who will see what we see — a loyal, affectionate, gentle soul who just needed a chance. If you’re looking for a dog who will work for his treats, walk proudly by your side, and melt into you after an adventure… Kane might just be your perfect match.
