Story
Bridgette is a 3-year-old, medium-sized mixed breed (possibly a Lab cross) with a sweet soul and an easygoing nature. She came to the shelter as an unclaimed stray, but it’s clear she’s ready to leave her past behind and start a new chapter with a loving family. This lovely girl is well-mannered in her kennel, truly enjoys human company, and greets everyone she meets with enthusiasm and affection. Bridgette has also enjoyed a playful romp with a male dog and may do well in a home with another friendly canine companion. Overall, she seems to be a fairly even-keeled, well-tempered dog who could fit nicely into many different home environments. Because her history is largely unknown, especially around young children, a home with older kids or adults may be the best match for her. Bridgette appears to have had a litter in the past, and now it’s her turn to be doted on and cared for. Bridgette would benefit from obedience classes to help her build new skills and polish her manners. She’s very food-motivated, making positive reinforcement training a great and fun way for her to learn. She would love daily neighborhood walks or weekend hikes—especially fitting, since she was found near the beautiful Albion Falls! If you’re looking for a friendly, affectionate, and adaptable companion, Bridgette might just be your perfect match. She’s patiently waiting to find a forever family to share her happy, balanced spirit with for the rest of her life. Please complete an adoption application: https://www.hamilton.ca/home-neighbourhood/animals-pets/adopt-or-foster-pet/adoptions Bridgette has an appointment to be spayed on January 8th. She will be ready for her forever home after she has recovered from this surgery. Animal adoptions and viewing are by appointment only. This allows our Adoption Staff to spend quality time with each potential home to ensure the most successful matches are made between the animals and their new families. *Please note: we only adopt within Ontario

Story
Scout is a sweet 3–4 month old Shepherd cross with a gentle heart and a growing confidence that’s been such a joy to watch. In his foster home, he has blossomed into a loyal little companion — our very own shadow who loves being close to his people. Once he warms up (which doesn’t take long!), he is affectionate, playful, and eager to please. Scout is doing wonderfully with his house training and is well on his way to being fully reliable. Next up, we’ll be teaching him how to signal when he needs to go out for potty breaks — he’s such a smart boy that we know he’ll pick it up quickly! He’s extremely food-motivated and loves learning new tricks for treats. Already in his toolbox: sit, shake, down/no, and he’s quickly mastering lay down and paws off the couch, with many more to come. When meeting new people, Scout appreciates slow and gentle introductions — approach low, move calmly, and a treat in hand goes a long way in winning him over. He can still be a bit skittish and is building confidence, especially around doorways, gates, and thresholds, which seem a little intimidating to him right now. With patience and positive reinforcement, he continues to improve every day. At night, Scout settles into his kennel with only a brief little whimper before drifting off to sleep. Surprisingly for a pup with Husky in his mix, he’s not very vocal! He adores his toys and keeps them proudly stashed on his makeshift bed. When he’s not entertaining himself, you’ll find him chasing his tail, cuddling up, or happily socializing. On walks, Scout has made beautiful progress — going from unsure about new people and dogs to curious and increasingly polite with each outing. He thrives with gentle guidance and positive direction. And bath time? He loved it! He even hopped back into the tub several times after we took him out — a true water enthusiast. Scout would make a wonderful family dog. With continued training, exposure, and positive reinforcement, he will flourish. His quieter nature makes him a great candidate for city living too, as long as he gets regular walks and space to romp and play at home. If you’re looking for a loyal best friend, a playful shadow, and a smart pup eager to learn and love — Scout just might be your perfect match. Please complete an adoption application: https://www.hamilton.ca/home-neighbourhood/animals-pets/adopt-or-foster-pet/adoptions Scout has a future appointment to be neutered. His adopters must be willing to return him for this surgery, which is included in the adoption fee. Animal adoptions and viewing are by appointment only. This allows our Adoption Staff to spend quality time with each potential home to ensure the most successful matches are made between the animals and their new families. *Please note: we only adopt within Ontario

Story
Apollo is a 2.5-year-old Malinois/Mastiff mix with a big brain, big energy, and an even bigger heart. He came to us as a stray, but he’s now ready to blast off into his forever home with the right co-pilot by his side. This handsome guy thrives on mental and physical stimulation—Apollo doesn’t just want a walk, he wants a mission. Training sessions, structured exercise, enrichment toys, learning new skills… that’s his happy place. When he’s bored, he may invent his own entertainment (and trust us, you probably won’t approve), so an active, engaged household is a must. Apollo knows sit and is eager to learn more, but he’ll benefit greatly from consistent obedience training. He can pull on leash and greets people with enthusiastic gusto, so clear boundaries and guidance will help him channel that excitement into good manners. The good news? He’s smart, motivated, and absolutely capable of becoming an exceptional companion with the right structure. He did wonderfully meeting other dogs and may do best with a canine buddy who can help burn off energy and show him the ropes. A confident dog sibling could be the perfect workout partner. Apollo is not a beginner dog, but for someone experienced with high-drive, high-energy dogs, he’s a dream in the making. If you enjoy working with dogs that are smarter than most people, love training as bonding time, and see the journey as part of the fun—you’ll find Apollo incredibly rewarding. With patience, consistency, and daily outlets for both his brain and body, Apollo will repay you with loyalty, devotion, and endless enthusiasm. He’s looking for someone who understands that greatness takes investment—and is excited to build something amazing together. Ready for a little adventure? Apollo is waiting. Story
Hi, I’m Lucky — thanks for coming to my interview! Interviewer: Lucky, tell us about yourself. Lucky: Great question. I’m a 2-year-old Lab / American Bully mix with lots of energy, a big personality, and an even bigger love for life. If there’s something happening, I want to be part of it. If there’s nothing happening… I can help fix that Interviewer: What’s a perfect day for you? Lucky: Adventures! Walks where I get to sniff everything, training time (especially if snacks are involved), and play sessions with my true love: tennis balls. Squeaky ones. Bouncy ones. If it squeaks and flies, I’m obsessed. Other toys? Meh. Tennis balls have my heart. Interviewer: Do you know any commands? Lucky: I do! I know sit and paw already—pretty impressive, right? I’m super food-motivated and really eager to learn more. I’ll admit, though, I can get excited and strong, especially on leash. That’s why continued obedience training is important for me. With consistency, structure, and positive reinforcement, I’m going to shine. Interviewer: What kind of home are you looking for? Lucky: An active one! I’d love a family who enjoys staying busy, going on outings, and including me in their daily routine. I need both mental and physical exercise every day to keep my energy balanced and my brain happy. Training + fun = my dream life. Interviewer: How do you feel about other dogs? Lucky: I came in with another dog, so having a canine buddy might help me burn off energy—but slow, supervised introductions are the way to go. I like thoughtful approaches. Interviewer: Anything adopters should know about your past? Lucky: I’m starting fresh. My past had some inconsistency—no real routine, not much structure, and a lot of figuring things out on my own. Things like house manners and crate training may be new to me or need a refresher. What I really need now is clear boundaries, predictable routines, and someone who knows dogs and wants to help me grow. Interviewer: Final thoughts? Lucky: I have so much potential. With the right person—someone patient, active, and excited about training—I’m going to be an incredible companion. If you’re ready to put in the time, energy, and love to help me be my best self…I just might be the girl for you Interview concluded. Tennis ball requested. Story
Meet Joey: CEO of Zoomies, Part-Time Leash Tugboat, Full-Time Good Boy!! (case #7537) Hi, I’m Joey, a 3-year-old Australian Cattle Dog mix who showed up as a stray and decided, “Yes, I will be adopting humans now.” After some time getting my life together, I’m officially ready to find an active, committed home that can keep up with my big brain and even bigger energy. I’m a smart, high-octane dude who thrives with people that enjoy staying busy—think hiking, training, dog sports, or basically any activity where I can show off how clever I am. I already know how to sit (thank you very much), and while I do believe walking on a leash is a competitive sport, I’m extremely food-motivated, which means training me is less “work” and more “treat-based negotiation.” I love learning and will happily trade good behavior for snacks. I might enjoy having a canine roommate, as long as introductions are done slowly and responsibly—no surprise meet-and-greets, please. I’m a gentleman, not a chaos goblin. As a proud Australian Cattle Dog mix, I come pre-installed with a strong work ethic and the firm belief that I need a job. Obedience training, agility, herding, dog sports, or any activity that keeps both my body and brain busy will make me one very happy camper. Skip my daily mental and physical workouts, though, and I may invent my own hobbies… like interior redesign. (You’ve been warned.) I’m bold, strong-minded, and full of personality, so I’m best suited for an experienced dog owner who can provide clear structure, leadership, guidance, and boundaries. First-time dog owners—this one might be a bit of an advanced class. But for the right person? I’m endlessly fun, fiercely loyal, and an incredible partner. If you’re ready to put in the time, energy, and dedication—and want a dog who will match your lifestyle stride for stride—Joey might just be your perfect teammate. Story
Romeo is about five months old, and his name couldn’t be more fitting. This sweet Lab cross has endless love to give and isn’t shy about sharing it. His favourite thing in the world is running straight over, planting himself in your lap, and settling in for a long snuggle. Personal space? Romeo’s never heard of it — and honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way. Despite being a young pup, Romeo already has some wonderful manners. He’s a dream in his crate at night, settling within about five minutes and sleeping quietly until morning. He’s also crated during the day while we’re at work and does well with that routine. Romeo currently lives with a 3.5-year-old male retriever, and the two get along beautifully. They happily take turns initiating play and love running around the yard together. Just as importantly, Romeo understands when the other dog needs a little space and will settle down on his own. When passing other dogs on walks, Romeo shows interest but calmly keeps moving along. He’s also been fantastic with kids. Like any true cuddle enthusiast, he initially tried to climb onto their laps on the couch, but when they ask him to get down, he listens well. Romeo has shown no signs of resource guarding with either food or toys. He happily lets us handle his food dish, and he and his canine buddy regularly swap toys without any issues. He’s also comfortable having his ears and paws handled, which will make grooming and vet visits much easier as he grows. On leash, Romeo walks nicely and is eager to follow direction. He’s a big, energetic puppy, but he’s not overly rambunctious or destructive. He just needs the normal outlets and guidance that any young dog does. Housetraining is still a work in progress, but Romeo clearly understands that outside is where he’s supposed to go. He’s only had one pee accident indoors so far, which is excellent progress for a pup his age. Romeo is the kind of dog who bonds deeply with his people and fills a home with affection. Whoever decides to welcome this lovable boy into their family is going to be incredibly lucky.
