Story
If enthusiasm had four legs and a wagging tail, it would be Bounce! Bounce is an approximately 1-year-old unclaimed stray with a huge heart and an even bigger personality. He might announce himself with a few barks when meeting new people, but give him a moment and—boom!—he transforms into a playful, affectionate goofball who’s eager for attention and love. When Bounce first arrived at the shelter, he was understandably nervous and overwhelmed. Handling was tough at first, and it’s clear that the shelter environment was stressful for him. Since settling in, though, Bounce has shown us who he really is: a sweet, energetic young dog who wants to connect and learn. Dog-friendly superstar! Bounce interacts well with other dogs and does an excellent job respecting corrections—an awesome sign that he has solid canine communication skills. He may do great with another friendly, well-mannered dog who can match his energy and help guide his play. Smart, but still learning Bounce knows some basic commands but would truly shine with obedience classes to work on leash skills, manners, and consistency. Ongoing socialization and confidence-building with new people will help him become the well-rounded dog he’s meant to be. Active & ready for adventure Bounce is a high-energy boy who will need plenty of physical exercise and mental enrichment to keep him happy and out of trouble. With structure, enrichment, and love, he’s going to thrive. The bottom line: Bounce is a wonderful young dog brimming with potential. Give him patience, guidance, and a chance—and he’ll give you loyalty, laughs, and a whole lot of love in return. Complete an adoption application and see if he’s the perfect match for you! https://www.hamilton.ca/home-neighbourhood/animals-pets/adopt-or-foster-pet/adoptions Animal adoptions and viewing are by appointment only. This allows our Adoption Staff to spend quality time with each potential home to ensure the most successful matches are made between the animals and their new families. *Please note: we only adopt within Ontario

Story
Penelope is a stunning Rottweiler mix, approximately 4–5 years old, who came to us as a stray and has been quietly winning hearts ever since. She is affectionate, intelligent, athletic, and deeply people-oriented — the kind of dog who wants to be with you, not just near you. Penelope loves people. Truly. She seeks connection, enjoys attention, and thrives when she has a job, a handler, and a sense of purpose. This weekend, she joined a canicross run and earned glowing reviews (shared below), impressing experienced runners with her composure, trainability, and heart. Honest & Educational: Penelope’s Dog-to-Dog Challenges Penelope can be barrier reactive with other dogs, particularly in stimulating environments or when dogs are vocal toward her. This behavior appears rooted in nervousness rather than intent, and she gives clear, subtle stress signals (lip licking, small whines) before escalating — which is actually excellent information for a skilled handler to work with. Based on what we have seen: She can be around other dogs at a managed distance She improves quickly when guided by a confident handler She is responsive to redirection and settles once she understands the situation Because of this, Penelope is looking for an experienced, committed adopter, ideally with Rottweiler or similar breed experience, who understands behavior management and is willing to continue her training journey. She knows basic commands (sit, stay, gentle), respects the leash despite her strength, and genuinely wants to do well — she just needs a human who knows how to guide her. The Bottom Line Penelope is not a “first dog” or an “easy mode” placement — and that’s okay. Dogs like Penelope are often the most rewarding. She is loyal, affectionate, eager to work, and deeply bonded to her people. With the right home, Penelope won’t just do well — she will shine. If you’re ready to invest time, experience, and heart into a truly special companion, Penelope may be the gem you’ve been searching for. Please complete an adoption application for our shiny Penny: https://www.hamilton.ca/home-neighbourhood/animals-pets/adopt-or-foster-pet/adoptions Penelope has a spay appointment booked for early January. She is searching for a foster-to-adopt home or foster home without other dogs prior to her surgery. Animal adoptions and viewing are by appointment only. This allows our Adoption Staff to spend quality time with each potential home to ensure the most successful matches are made between the animals and their new families. *Please note: we only adopt within Ontario

Story
Blaze is an 8–12 month old Labrador mix bursting with energy, personality, and endless love to give. This goofy, tail-wagging guy wants nothing more than to be by your side. He already knows sit and down, but sometimes his excitement takes the wheel — he’s still a puppy at heart! With consistent training, patience, and plenty of positive reinforcement, Blaze will blossom into the polite, confident companion he’s destined to be. This sweet boy may sometimes show submissive urination when greeting new friends — totally normal for young, eager pups — and it should improve as he feels more secure. He absolutely loves other dogs, though he tends to introduce himself like a kid running full speed into recess. With slow, supervised meet-and-greets, he could thrive with a canine buddy. Blaze is currently fostering with a well matched resident dog in his foster home and they are great buddies! Blaze is a very enthusiastic eater and came to us a little grabby with food, so he’ll need an owner to continue to help him build good habits. Hand-feeding sessions, working for his meals, and offering lots of trades will help him learn impulse control and grow his confidence. He has had great success in his foster with no issues so he is well on his way! In his new home, feeding time should be structured to prevent any resource-guarding before it starts — setting him up for success from day one as his foster has already been doing. His love of food also makes him highly trainable! He is food motivated and is so happy to learn new skills with reward positive based methods. Blaze is active, smart, and always ready for a challenge. He’ll shine with daily mental and physical outlets — think enrichment toys, brain games, training sessions, and outdoor adventures galore. If you have the energy, patience, and commitment to guide this bright young pup, Blaze could be your perfect adventure partner. Give him structure, love, and fun, and he’ll give you his whole heart in return. I came to the shelter as an unclaimed stray, but now I’m ready to find my forever family who’ll love me just the way I am. I’m a gentle giant, with a sweet, laid-back personality. I enjoy hanging out with the staff here, and I get along with my fellow dog friends—playtime is one of my favorite activities! I’m a smart boy too! Story
Rona is an approximately six-month-old puppy who arrived with confidence, curiosity, and a very active brain. She is incredibly smart, spunky, loving, and full of potential — the kind of pup who keeps you on your toes while also stealing your heart. Rona thrives when life makes sense to her. Give her routine, structure, clear boundaries, and consistent training, and she will absolutely shine. Without guidance, she may invent her own rules (because she’s clever like that)… but with a confident handler, she’s a rockstar in the making. She adores enrichment and mental games — puzzles, box games, training sessions, and interactive play are her love language. Once she understands what’s expected, she blossoms into a happy, affectionate, fun-loving puppy who enjoys engaging with her people. She can be unsure at first, but with proper introductions and calm leadership, she warms up quickly and turns on the charm. Rona learns extremely fast and wants to connect. She is very affectionate, people-focused, and has a bright, joyful personality. With continued guidance, she will grow into an amazing companion. She would do well either as the only dog, soaking up all the attention, or with another confident dog who can help show her the ropes. Like all puppies, Rona is still mastering her house manners and currently dabbles in some classic puppy life choices: Counter surfing (what if snacks live up there?) Drinking toilet water (SPICY fountain) Ripping blankets (teething + interior decorating) Eating snow (winter salad) Playful dirt excavation projects All of these are age-appropriate and very trainable — especially for a puppy as smart as Rona. Rona is the full package: confident, loving, hilarious, and highly trainable. She’s looking for a home willing to invest in her bright future. Do that, and you’ll be rewarded with a loyal, funny, affectionate best friend for years to come. Please complete an adoption application: https://www.hamilton.ca/home-neighbourhood/animals-pets/adopt-or-foster-pet/adoptions Rona is currently in a loving foster home and has a spay appointment on December 16th. She will be ready to go to her forever home after she has recovered from this surgery. Animal adoptions and viewing are by appointment only. This allows our Adoption Staff to spend quality time with each potential home to ensure the most successful matches are made between the animals and their new families. *Please note: we only adopt within Ontario
