Meet Yoshi!! (case #02-03-200-01) Yoshi's Dating Profile: The Sweet, Gentle Bulldog Mix Looking for a Cuddle Buddy! Name: Yoshi Breed: American Bulldog Mix Age: 5 years young Likes: Long walks, playtime with furry friends, snuggling, belly rubs Dislikes: Ear infections (but who likes those?) Personality: Gentle, affectionate, smart, and laid-back Yoshi's Bio: Hey there, I’m Yoshi! I’m 5 years old, and I’ve got a heart full of love and a soft spot for cuddles. I came to the shelter as an unclaimed stray, but now I’m ready to find my forever family who’ll love me just the way I am. I’m a gentle giant, with a sweet, laid-back personality. I enjoy hanging out with the staff here, and I get along with my fellow dog friends—playtime is one of my favorite activities! I’m a smart boy too! I know plenty of tricks (ask me to sit, I dare you), but I could use some help with my leash manners—obedience classes will make us even more of a dream team! I’m super easy-going—no resource guarding here! I’m the type of guy who’s cool with sharing, and I promise I’m all about affection, not attitude. If you’re into long walks, we’ll be a perfect match. And when it’s time to chill, I’m all about snuggling up on the couch for a good cuddle session. I’m soft-tempered and affectionate, and I love being close to my humans. I’d thrive in an active household that enjoys walks and also values some downtime together. I’m looking for someone who can keep my mind stimulated with fun games and give me all the belly rubs I deserve after a good play session. So, if you’re looking for a sweet, loyal companion who loves to play and relax in equal measure, let’s meet! I promise to make your heart melt with my gentle nature and give you all the love you need. Let’s make some memories together! Bonus Features: Good with other dogs (after proper intros, of course!) Loves to learn new tricks (who’s ready to be impressed?) A fantastic cuddle buddy If you're looking for a lovable, affectionate dog who's ready to share all his love with you, swipe right on Yoshi!

KIKI – Mexi-Hound Mix / 2.5 years / 17 kg / F-Spayed We asked Kiki's foster parents the secret to her success, and it just comes down to the right match! Kiki is so incredibly smart and thrives when in learning mode. Combined with her passion for activity, this girl will soar! Exercising her body and her mind give this girl her glow! She would make a great running partner and would appreciate a 5k in her day. She is great on a leash, and as her favourite mode is "let's go!" a jog would be fab for her. Her training foundation is solid - she knows a ton of commands, is great in the house, has good leash manners: where her new people will have fun with her training is with agility or other mind/body programs. In her downtime, she is very cuddly and happy to be with her people. Some dogs may find her a bit extra, so we think she'd be happiest as the solo dog in the home, provided there are a ton of toys and playtime. If you are looking for an adventure buddy in your life, Kiki could be for you! Please check out the adoption process and application at www.dibsrescue.com. Her adoption fee is $750. If you are a family with older kids, please check out our resources on kids and dogs before you apply. (https://dibsrescue.com/kids-dogs)

Emmy Lou

Story
Emmy Lou is an estimated 2 year old female English Bulldog mix who was found stray, and unclaimed at Animal Services. She is a compact 60lbs, lean, but strong. She is a very sensitive girl and wasn't showing well in the busy shelter environment, and sadly was at risk of euthanasia. We pulled her into our rescue where Emmy has flourished, and showed us what a wonderful, silly, playful and affectionate girl she is! Emmy Lou is generally pretty independent and low energy. She is a very typical English bulldog mix - lower energy, snuggly, gets cold easily but also overheats easily, brachycephalic, snores very loudly, and can be sensitive and particular about a few things! With her family, Emmy is very playful, enthusiastic, and zoomie for about 10 minutes, twice daily. She loves to snuggle, and is comfortable with manipulations, including paw cleaning, face wrinkle cleaning, general facial cleaning after eating/drinking, pets, and even baths. With strangers, Emmy is more reserved and defensive. She does not like strangers reaching for her without consent, and does not like feeling pressured- including from the vet! Emmy is very neutral with strangers as long as they don't put pressure on her - she's actually a wonderful patio pup, but does need to be advocated for. Emmy warms up quickly with neutral interactions, and lots of treats! With dogs, Emmy similarly does best with neutral introductions. She can be sensitive to dogs coming into her space too quickly, and prefers neutral walks and respectful space. She had done well in a very busy canicross setting with many excited dogs that were respectful of her space, and lives with 3 respectful foster brothers. We've observed that she can be a bit more of a bully to her anxious/sensitive middle aged foster brother, compared to her other 2 more confident foster brothers, however she takes redirection from her humans well and engages nicely with all 3 with supervision. Emmy has not met cats. Emmy is curious/ eager to bully the chickens that live on the property with her, although they have always been safely fenced outside her reach. We have observed that Emmy Lou is a resource guarder with other animals. In a multi-dog home, feedings are done separately, and Emmy gets her own space when playing with toys. Emmy will also guard dog beds, her space on the couch, and other objects she decides to claim- unexpected ones have included a sweater on the floor she decided to sit on, and a stick she decided was her toy. Her foster home is an experienced home with obedient and respectful dogs, so managing resources and redirecting Emmy when she starts showing warning signs has been easy for everyone to peacefully coexist, however potential adopters with other pets will have to be aware of subtle body language cues and have a management plan to prevent and conflicts around resource guarding. For this reason, we are also looking for a home for Emmy without young kids. Emmy Lou is very food motivated, eager to please, and quite sensitive. She enjoys training and is easy to redirect with verbal cues, food, and tone of voice. Emmy is a sensitive girl, and any raised voices she perceives to be directed at her, and can get defensive. While Emmy is easy to manipulate when she's in her usual happy-go-lucky mood, if she is defensive she will not tolerate collar grabs or manipulations. Emmy is easy to coax out of a defensive state with verbal encouragement and treats, however her future adopters will have to be aware of how much pressure they are putting on her, and be mindful that she may interpret their actions differently than they may intend. Emmy is also sensitive about potty breaks in the dark, the cold, and loud noises. Her safe space is in her crate in the house, and if she's feeling sensitive she will seek out her crate. Her other favourite spot is being on a pillow, on the couch, snuggled in a cozy throw blanket! Once she's comfortable and cozy, Emmy will snuggle and snore up a storm! Emmy is a silly, playful, and funny girl! She loves shaking and ripping up stuffy toes, loves her treat ball and other food toys, loves to squeak squeakers, and loves her single ingredient raw/dehydrated treats to chew up! She is low energy, but loves to run around with a toy when her people wake up in the morning, or when they come home from work. She quickly gets tired and loves to snuggle her people in her corner of the couch. She also loves to "supervise" in the kitchen, but will lay on her dog bed if asked to. She has a hilarious "resting grumpy face", but loves to give kisses to her people. MEDICAL DISCLAIMER! Emmy Lou had a severe adverse reaction to what is thought to be the general anesthetic during her routine spay surgery. She developed pyothorax and aspiration pneumonia, causing her to be hospitalized for 10 days on oxygen, an IV with antibiotics and fluids, and with a chest tube, which cost us over $13,000 for treatment with a 50% survival rate. English Bulldogs are not healthy dogs, and are genetically higher risk patients for routine surgeries and procedures. They are also dogs that will likely need dentals in their future. Due to Emmy's severe adverse reaction, any future dentals should be done at a veterinary dentist with a anesthesiologist present. English Bulldogs are also very sensitive to heat and breathing issues. Emmy Lou will very likely be more expensive to maintain good health than other breeds of rescue dogs, and she will need an adopter prepared to cover those costs for the duration of her lifetime, up to 15 years. Adopters should have previous experience, or have done thorough research into the health issues associated with English Bulldogs. Pet Insurance, or having a very large savings fund for emergencies is required. Taking a Pet First Aid course may also be an asset. Emmy Lou Summary: 2-3yo (f) English Bulldog mix -Good with dogs -Untested with cats -Older kids -Ignores strangers, happy to coexist, doesn't want strangers applying pressure. Happy to be affectionate on her own terms with strangers. -Crate trained -Good in car -Good on leash -Low energy, but very playful and gets short zoomies twice daily. -Non-vocal, but snores very loudly Personality: Silly, playful, joyful, snuggly, sensitive, funny, independent, defensive Behaviours: -Resource guards toys, food, space, furniture with other dogs. No observations of guarding with people. Easy to redirect, however management must be considered in multi-pet homes. -Sensitive and easily defensive: Emmy is a sensitive girl and any raised voices she thinks she is being yelled at, and if she is in a defensive state she can be nervous of collar grabs or sudden manipulations. Emmy is also defensive for some medical handling, especially by strangers. If she does not feel threatened, and with her people that she knows, Emmy is easy to manipulate and touch everywhere (we've even done rectal temperature checks without her being defensive). Health concerns: -Brachycephalic breed, take extreme caution in hot/humid weather, and restrict exercise when needed -Some allergies present in shelter, and post-hospitalization. Suspected chicken. Not extreme - did well on Performatin Lamb Kibble, and Blue Buffalo Salmon. -Had extreme response to spay surgery, may be sensitive to general anesthesia. Any future surgeries (dentals, etc.) will need to be done at a veterinary dentist with an anesthesia specialist. English bulldogs are notoriously unhealthy breeds. While Emmy Lou seems to have better breathing, and our vets think she's healthier than a typical English Bulldog, her future adopters should be prepared for budgeting for higher than average vet costs. Story
Ellana. Apx 5 -6 years young and 12.5 pounds. She is a funny gal with some quirks , but is also very funny , lovable and silly . Ellana has her moments though and can be a tad on the bipolar side. She was rescued from ACS after being on the euthanasia list, before that being rescued from a hoarding situation in which the house caught fire and animal control confiscated the dogs that made it out alive. So this gal has been through it! She has an adorable waddle, a snaggle tooth, an interesting pomchi coat, and a personality to boot. She had a very large mammary mass removed that was cancerous. Ellana has a little bit of a “tick” sometimes we will call it bc we don’t actually know what it is and when she went to the vet she of course did not do it there. Once in a very great while she will do a funny thing with her mouth that looks like how a fish breaths out of water. She will do it once or twice and then not do it at all for days or weeks and then some days she may do it several times. She did it more when she first arrived so we are wondering if it is like a nervous thing 🤷‍♀️ of course I can also never get this on video so I’m sure my description does not do it justice, but this does not bother her. She hardly never does it and it appears to be just some sort of neurological a little tick. Ellana takes a minute to warm up to new people and she does bark at strangers and give them the side eye, however she is not a biter or an aggressive dog. That being said if Ellana felt really cornered or in danger , I would not completely put it past her to nip so we are definitely not going to put her in home with children. Ellana is VERY sweet and loving it just takes her a day or two to get used to new people and places . She did great at the vet, no issues. We can bathe her, do her nails etc. but if the handy man comes over or a stranger she will try and “protect you” and she puts her hackles up and barks and tries her best to act intimidating, but as soon as they get down and say hi and are there for a few minutes, she is fine and probably by lunch will be in their lap. Ellana gets along well with cats and dogs however she “moms” the dogs . She is a bit of the boss and alpha here but not in a way that she gets in fights and she never attacks dogs or anything but she is confident and a tad on the bossy side, she loves to play and has several friends here she is in a yard space with 9 other dogs . She loves to play with them but when she is done and ready for her nap she has no problem letting them know. She will also break up other dogs fights or if she thinks the other dogs are playing too rough she goes and “moms” them. She is the mama bear of the group for sure. She is a very good girl, she has been through a lot and she deserves to know what a real home, a real family is like. She is beautiful and so so soft. She also looks at you and pays attention to you like she is really listening to what you are saying lol. Ellana is a good catch, she just needs the right home. Story
Marco is a purebred, Australian cattle dog a.k.a. blue heeler. He was born with a bilateral cleft lip. This birth defect does not stop him from doing anything. A normal dog would do. He eats just like a normal dog would eat. You just have to brush his teeth a little more often in that area to get the food out and check for grass or sticks that may get stuck in there. Please note this is not the same thing as a cleft palette. This is just a cleft lip and he can eat any type of food completely fine. Marco may look a bit different but he is a gorgeous boy. Marco is currently 5-8 months old 17 pounds. Male Heelers are typically 40-50 pounds fully grown. He is very timid and shy and under socialized but a gentle, nervous boy who has a huge heart and a beautiful soul. He does nervous pee so we are working on this and I do not think this will be forever I think once he gain some confidence, he will be perfectly fine. He gets very nervous with new people, dogs, and places. He needs a committed adopter willing to socialize him, be patient, loving , kind, and start on some basic puppy 101 training when he is ready. He is a nervous nelly but has the absolute sweetest soul. Please give him a chance !!

Story
Please read bio carefully. Looking for an experienced adopter or foster. Joy is 21 pounds and 10 months old. We are assuming Chi/Pug mix of some sort. She is a short hefty gal. Joy has hydrocephalus. We are looking for a special needs adopter for her. Preferably someone whom has had hydro dogs before and are familiar with their needs. Joy was born hydrocephalic. Hers is pretty severe however , she is very loving, gets along with other dogs, is very quiet, never makes a peep, really likes attention and affection. She does not spin in circles or have seizures. She has no major neuro issues aside from the typical depth perception of neuro dogs. She even rides well in a car. Joy is a really great dog deserving of a wonderful home. She will bring a lot of joy and love to your home. As hydro dogs do. This week she is even learning the doggy door and using it 50% of the time to potty in her dog yard but like most hydro babies, she is a slow learner. She needs a lot of love and patience . We really prefer an adopter with special needs experience. Approved adopters please send your hold requests to the email you were given. To get approved please visit our website www.texaschihuahuarescuecanada.org to fill in an application to adopt.
