Story
A soft-hearted sweetheart bursting with life, joy, and love, Honey is the kind of dog who will quietly steal your heart and never give it back. This three and half year-old lab cross' happy spirit shines through in everything she does, from her enthusiastic sniff-filled adventures to the way she lights up around her favourite people. In the home, Honey is an absolute dream. She’s calm, affectionate, beautifully behaved, and a total crate superstar. She settles easily, loves being near her people, and has that comforting, gentle presence that makes a house feel more like home. Out in the world, Honey’s happiest place is a quiet park with plenty of room to roam, sniff, and explore at her own pace. Give her open space, a peaceful trail, or a calm suburban stroll, and you’ll see her relaxed, engaged, and happily trotting alongside you with her curious nose to the ground. Watching Honey enjoy the simple things in life like soft grass, fresh air, and a good sniffing route is pure happiness. Honey is a sensitive girl, and busy streets full of noise, traffic, bikes, and close-up dogs can feel overstimulating for her. Because of this, she’s looking for a patient, dog-savvy adopter who lives in a quieter suburban or country setting and can help her manage her leash reactivity. The beautiful thing? Through it all, her love for people never wavers. Her temperament with humans is truly exceptional as she is sweet, trusting, affectionate, and full of heart. Honey doesn’t need a perfect home, but she does need one where close encounters with the canine kind will be minimal. In return, Honey promises unwavering loyalty, joyful adventures, endless cuddles, and the kind of love that feels extra special because it’s been earned. Story
Blondie is a beautiful approximately 7-year-old Standard Poodle with a heart as golden as her name. After arriving at the shelter as a stray, this sweet girl has shown everyone just how resilient and loving she truly is. Although she was underweight when she first came into our care, Blondie never let her difficult past dim her spirit. She greets each day with a wagging tail, a happy attitude, and plenty of affection to share. Blondie adores spending time with people and quickly wins over everyone she meets. She enjoys the company of other dogs and would likely thrive with a canine companion, provided introductions are made slowly and thoughtfully. She already knows several commands, including sit, paw, and other paw, and she walks nicely on a leash, making her a wonderful partner for daily adventures. Standard Poodles are known for their exceptional intelligence, trainability and athleticism. They excel in a variety of activities, including obedience, agility, tracking, dock diving and retrieving. Blondie is intelligent, eager to learn, and loves having a job to do. She would benefit greatly from obedience classes, not only to build on the skills she already has, but also as a wonderful way to strengthen the bond with her future family. Whether it's learning new tricks, going for long walks, solving puzzle toys, or even enjoying a swim, Blondie will be happiest in a home that can provide both mental and physical enrichment. Blondie would likely do well with dog-savvy children and an active family who can include her in their daily lives. Cats are an unknown at this time, and as with many Poodles, a higher prey drive is possible. This lovely girl is looking for more than just a home she's looking for a family to love and who will love her right back. If you're searching for an affectionate, loyal companion who is ready to start her next chapter, Blondie may be the perfect missing piece in your life. Come meet Blondie and discover just how special she is. She has already overcome so much, and now all she needs is a place to finally call home. Blondie has an appointment to be spayed on June 23rd and will be ready for her forever home after her recovery. Story
Meet Tracker — part Heeler, part goofball, part amateur detective, and 100% ready to find his people. When Tracker first arrived, he acted like someone had accidentally dropped him into the wrong movie. He was timid, shaky, and clearly unsure about this whole “meeting new humans” situation. But after some time to decompress, the real Tracker has started making an appearance — and spoiler alert: he’s pretty great. These days, Tracker happily walks up to staff members on his own for attention and pets, proving that underneath that nervous beginning was just a sweet young dog waiting for the world to feel a little safer. Watching his confidence grow has honestly been one of our favourite glow-ups. True to his name, Tracker is very serious about investigating every blade of grass, leaf, squirrel rumour, and mysterious sidewalk smell on walks. Sniffing is his passion. Is he solving crimes? Mapping secret treasure routes? Conducting important neighbourhood business? We may never know. He’s a medium-energy boy who enjoys getting out and exploring, and as a young Heeler cross, he’ll need both physical exercise and mental stimulation to keep his clever brain happy. Puzzle toys, adventures, training sessions, and sniff-heavy walks will all be right up his alley. During his dog assessment, Tracker was playful and polite with a much larger intact male dog, and we believe he could happily live with another playful canine companion if introductions are done properly. We also feel he could do well with dog-savvy children who understand that sometimes a young dog needs a little patience while building confidence. Now, fair warning: Tracker currently believes leash walking is a full upper-body workout for his humans. He can be strong on leash, but with obedience training and positive reinforcement, he should improve quickly. In fact, we strongly recommend enrolling him in training right away — not only to help polish his manners, but because smart dogs like Tracker absolutely thrive when given structure and learning opportunities. At the end of the day, Tracker is a sweet, sensitive young dog who just needed a little time for his personality to shine. Now that it has, he’s ready to find a home where he can continue building confidence, making friends, and living his very best adventure-dog life. Story
At approximately 1 to 2 years old, Livvy is a lovable bully mix who arrived as an unclaimed stray and is now searching for a family of her very own. While we don't know much about her past, we do know that her future is looking bright! Livvy is a medium-energy girl who keeps her kennel tidy, loves meeting new people, and firmly believes that every stranger is just a friend she hasn't greeted yet. She's already mastered "sit" and is currently expanding her resume with "paw" and "stay." Like many young professionals, she's eager to learn and highly motivated by snacks. Speaking of snacks, Livvy would happily like you to know that she considers food a love language. Treats, puzzles, food searches, lick mats, and sniffing games are all excellent ways to keep her busy. As a smart bully mix, she thrives when her brain gets as much exercise as her body. On walks, Livvy approaches life with enthusiasm. If she catches an interesting scent, she may temporarily forget she's attached to a human and begin following her nose with great determination. Loose-leash walking is definitely on her "to-do" list, and she'd benefit greatly from continued training and consistency. When meeting another dog, Livvy can make quite the entrance. Think excited party guest rather than rude neighbour. After the initial excitement, she settled nicely and was content to coexist and investigate the world around her. Because she's still learning social skills, she would likely do best as an only dog or with a carefully matched canine companion who doesn't mind helping a young dog figure things out. Livvy also has a habit of expressing her affection vertically. If she's excited to see you, she may attempt to become your personal lap dog despite being considerably larger than a lap. Older, dog-savvy children may be a good fit, but supervision is important, and she'd benefit from continuing to work on her manners. At the end of the day, Livvy is exactly what many people are looking for: friendly, affectionate, eager to learn, and ready to build a strong bond with her family. She has all the ingredients to become an amazing companionshe just needs someone willing to invest a little time, patience, and training. If you're looking for a dog who will make you laugh, keep you active, and love you with her whole heart, Livvy is ready to leave shelter life behind and start her next adventure with you. Please complete an adoption application: Bonus Livvy fact: she currently believes every smell within a 3-kilometre radius deserves immediate investigation. Training may convince her otherwise. Maybe. https://www.hamilton.ca/home-neighbourhood/animals-pets/adopt-or-foster-pet/adoptions Animal adoptions and viewing are by appointment only. Story
KIKI – Mexi-Hound Mix / 2.5 years / 17 kg / F-Spayed We asked Kiki's foster parents the secret to her success, and it just comes down to the right match! Kiki is so incredibly smart and thrives when in learning mode. Combined with her passion for activity, this girl will soar! Exercising her body and her mind give this girl her glow! She would make a great running partner and would appreciate a 5k in her day. She is great on a leash, and as her favourite mode is "let's go!" a jog would be fab for her. Her training foundation is solid - she knows a ton of commands, is great in the house, has good leash manners: where her new people will have fun with her training is with agility or other mind/body programs. In her downtime, she is very cuddly and happy to be with her people. Some dogs may find her a bit extra, so we think she'd be happiest as the solo dog in the home, provided there are a ton of toys and playtime. If you are looking for an adventure buddy in your life, Kiki could be for you! Please check out the adoption process and application at www.dibsrescue.com. Her adoption fee is $750. If you are a family with older kids, please check out our resources on kids and dogs before you apply. (https://dibsrescue.com/kids-dogs)
