Story
Ella is a beautiful 7-year-old Border Collie/Lab mix with a gentle soul and a heart full of love. After arriving in our care with sore, torn paws, it was clear this sweet girl had been through a lot — yet she has remained calm, kind, and affectionate every step of the way. Ella loves being close to her people and is happiest enjoying quiet companionship, peaceful walks, and cozy evenings at home. She already knows “sit” and “paw,” walks nicely on leash, and has wonderful manners both in and out of her kennel. She may do well with another calm dog after slow introductions, and she’s looking for a loving home where she can finally feel safe, comfortable, and cherished. If you’re searching for a loyal, gentle companion, Ella may be your perfect match. Animal adoptions and viewing are by appointment only. This allows our Adoption Staff to spend quality time with each potential home to ensure the most successful matches are made between the animals and their new families. Story
Copper is an approximately 3-year-old Rhodesian Ridgeback mix who arrived at the shelter as an unclaimed stray, and he’s been quietly learning that the world can be a safe place ever since. When Copper first came in, he was a very timid and nervous boy who would retreat to the back of his kennel when staff approached. Everything felt overwhelming, and he needed time to decompress and adjust at his own pace. With patience, consistency, and gentle care, Copper has started to show just how much he is capable of growing. Today, Copper is beginning to truly shine. He can now often be found at the front of his kennel with a softly wagging tail, ready to greet familiar faces. He moves in and out of his kennel nicely and has shown that he is comfortable with handling and care, remaining calm even during more invasive handling such as having multiple ticks removed. He has also been comfortable being rotated alongside other dogs, continuing to build his confidence in a social environment. While Copper is still a shy boy when meeting new people, his progress is clear. He now approaches cautiously with a relaxed body and a gentle tail wag, warming up much more quickly than before. Volunteers have noted that once he is away from the shelter building, his confidence grows significantly and his true personality begins to come forward. Copper already knows several basic commands including sit, paw, other paw, and down, suggesting he has had some prior training. He appears to be house trained and keeps a clean kennel. With continued positive reinforcement training, he will benefit from further work on leash manners, confidence building, and socialization. His volunteer friends have had many wonderful things to say about him: “Loves treats and cuddles.” “Lovely boy, super affectionate, walks well on leash, very gentle when taking treats.” “Initially a little shy and nervous but warmed up really quickly, liked to be petted and touched.” On walks, Copper enjoys exploring and engaging with the world, though he can still be strong on leash at times and may be easily distracted by squirrels. Even so, he settles well overall and continues to improve with guidance and reassurance. After a recent walk, he returned with a loose body, wide wagging tail, and an open, relaxed expression — a beautiful sign of how far he’s come. Copper will need a patient, understanding adopter who can provide a calm, structured home and prioritize ongoing training, secure handling, and gradual socialization. He can startle easily and may be a flight risk in unfamiliar situations, so safe containment and careful leash management are very important. He would also benefit from continued positive reinforcement-based obedience classes to help build confidence and strengthen his skills. Copper is still a work in progress, but he is already showing what a gentle, affectionate, and promising dog he can be. In the right home, with patience and kindness, Copper has every opportunity to blossom into a deeply loyal and loving companion. If you think you can provide a home for Copper please submit an application using the link below: https://www.hamilton.ca/home-neighbourhood/animals-pets/adopt-or-foster-pet/adoptions Copper has a future appointment to be neutered. He will be ready to go to his forever home after he has recovered from this surgery. Animal adoptions and viewing are by appointment only. Story
A soft-hearted sweetheart bursting with life, joy, and love, Honey is the kind of dog who will quietly steal your heart and never give it back. This three and half year-old lab cross' happy spirit shines through in everything she does, from her enthusiastic sniff-filled adventures to the way she lights up around her favourite people. In the home, Honey is an absolute dream. She’s calm, affectionate, beautifully behaved, and a total crate superstar. She settles easily, loves being near her people, and has that comforting, gentle presence that makes a house feel more like home. Out in the world, Honey’s happiest place is a quiet park with plenty of room to roam, sniff, and explore at her own pace. Give her open space, a peaceful trail, or a calm suburban stroll, and you’ll see her relaxed, engaged, and happily trotting alongside you with her curious nose to the ground. Watching Honey enjoy the simple things in life like soft grass, fresh air, and a good sniffing route is pure happiness. Honey is a sensitive girl, and busy streets full of noise, traffic, bikes, and close-up dogs can feel overstimulating for her. Because of this, she’s looking for a patient, dog-savvy adopter who lives in a quieter suburban or country setting and can help her manage her leash reactivity. The beautiful thing? Through it all, her love for people never wavers. Her temperament with humans is truly exceptional as she is sweet, trusting, affectionate, and full of heart. Honey doesn’t need a perfect home, but she does need one where close encounters with the canine kind will be minimal. In return, Honey promises unwavering loyalty, joyful adventures, endless cuddles, and the kind of love that feels extra special because it’s been earned. Story
Meet Tango — a 4–5-month-old Mastiff/Lab cross puppy with giant paws, a growing personality, and enough charm to bulldoze his way straight into your heart. Tango arrived at the shelter as a “stray,” which honestly feels hard to believe because this sweet boy clearly thinks people are pretty wonderful. Like many puppies, he can be a little shy when meeting new people at first but give him about five minutes and suddenly you’ve got a wiggly best friend following you around like you’ve known each other forever. He’s playful, social, goofy, and currently at that fantastic puppy stage where every single thing in the world is exciting. A leaf blowing across the yard? Incredible. A squeaky toy? Life-changing. Your shoelaces? His greatest enemy. Tango also arrived with Demodex Mange, which he has been treated for and is recovering from nicely. Demodex mange is a common skin condition in puppies caused by microscopic mites that naturally live on dogs’ skin. Young puppies can sometimes develop it when their immune systems are still maturing, leading to hair loss, irritated skin, and scabbing. The good news is that it is treatable, and Tango is already healing well — his scabs are improving, his skin is recovering, and now that he’s starting to feel better, his happy puppy personality is really shining through. This handsome boy already knows “sit,” and he’s eager to learn more. Continued obedience training and crate training will be very important as he grows, especially because Tango is expected to become a large dog. Right now, he may just be an oversized puppy with floppy enthusiasm, but one day he’ll be an oversized adult dog with floppy enthusiasm — so starting his training early will help him become the very best version of himself. As a Mastiff/Lab mix, Tango will need plenty of daily exercise, mental enrichment, and positive guidance to keep both his body and his big puppy brain happy. Puzzle toys, walks, training games, and family adventures will all help this growing boy thrive. Overall, Tango is exactly what many people dream of in a family dog: affectionate, playful, social, and full of potential. He just needs a home willing to put in the time, patience, and training needed to help a young puppy grow into a confident, well-balanced companion. Please complete an adoption application: https://www.hamilton.ca/home-neighbourhood/animals-pets/adopt-or-foster-pet/adoptions Tracker has a future appointment to be neutered once he is fully recovered. His adopters must be willing to return him to a Hamilton clinic for this surgery, which is included in the adoption fee. Animal adoptions and viewing are by appointment only. This allows our Adoption Staff to spend quality time with each potential home to ensure the most successful matches are made between the animals and their new families. *Please note: we only adopt within Ontario

Dorado

Belgian Malinois American Bulldog

Story
Another bright star from our constellation-themed litter of seven, Dorado is ready to chart a course straight into your heart. He came into the shelter with his mom (a Malinois mix) and his littermates. With a mix of looks across the litter — some bully-type, some boxer-like, even a few fluffier siblings, Dorado brings his own unique style to this cosmic crew. At just 2 months old, Dorado is already a confident, go-all-in kind of puppy. He isn’t afraid of anything and lives life at full speed — running, rumbling, and playing hard before happily seeking out affection and attention from his people. He’s outgoing, stable during handling, and thrives on interaction, making him a fun and engaging companion for someone ready to keep up with him. Dorado is both food motivated and toy motivated, which is a dream combination for training. Whether you’re working with treats or a favorite tug toy, he’s eager to learn and ready to engage. With consistency and positive reinforcement, he has excellent potential to grow into a well-trained and responsive adult. That said, Dorado is not a low-maintenance puppy. With his Malinois mix background, adopters should expect a smart, driven, and energetic dog who will need: Daily physical exercise (not just a quick walk!) Mental enrichment like training sessions, puzzle toys, and structured play Clear structure, boundaries, and consistent expectations Early and ongoing socialization in a controlled, positive way He will do best with a confident handler who can be firm but fair, guiding him with patience and consistency while channeling his energy into appropriate outlets. Like all puppies, Dorado will also need help navigating the basics of growing up: House training and crate training will take time and routine Teething means lots of chewing—he’ll need proper outlets Puppy manners (like no jumping or nipping) will need to be taught Ongoing training is essential, especially for a strong, intelligent dog Dorado is looking for an active, patient family that understands the commitment of raising a puppy—especially one who will likely grow into a larger, powerful dog with working-breed traits. Experience with high-energy or working breeds is a bonus, but dedication to training and enrichment is a must. In return, you’ll get a loyal, playful, and driven companion who will bring energy, fun, and endless personality into your life . If you’re ready to match his pace and help guide him to become his best self, Dorado is ready to be your adventure partner. Please complete an adoption application: https://www.hamilton.ca/home-neighbourhood/animals-pets/adopt-or-foster-pet/adoptions Dorado is too young to have certain procedures done, including a neuter. His adopters must be willing to return him for this surgery, which is included in the adoption fee. Animal adoptions and viewing are by appointment only. Story
Meet Tracker — part Heeler, part goofball, part amateur detective, and 100% ready to find his people. When Tracker first arrived, he acted like someone had accidentally dropped him into the wrong movie. He was timid, shaky, and clearly unsure about this whole “meeting new humans” situation. But after some time to decompress, the real Tracker has started making an appearance — and spoiler alert: he’s pretty great. These days, Tracker happily walks up to staff members on his own for attention and pets, proving that underneath that nervous beginning was just a sweet young dog waiting for the world to feel a little safer. Watching his confidence grow has honestly been one of our favourite glow-ups. True to his name, Tracker is very serious about investigating every blade of grass, leaf, squirrel rumour, and mysterious sidewalk smell on walks. Sniffing is his passion. Is he solving crimes? Mapping secret treasure routes? Conducting important neighbourhood business? We may never know. He’s a medium-energy boy who enjoys getting out and exploring, and as a young Heeler cross, he’ll need both physical exercise and mental stimulation to keep his clever brain happy. Puzzle toys, adventures, training sessions, and sniff-heavy walks will all be right up his alley. During his dog assessment, Tracker was playful and polite with a much larger intact male dog, and we believe he could happily live with another playful canine companion if introductions are done properly. We also feel he could do well with dog-savvy children who understand that sometimes a young dog needs a little patience while building confidence. Now, fair warning: Tracker currently believes leash walking is a full upper-body workout for his humans. He can be strong on leash, but with obedience training and positive reinforcement, he should improve quickly. In fact, we strongly recommend enrolling him in training right away — not only to help polish his manners, but because smart dogs like Tracker absolutely thrive when given structure and learning opportunities. At the end of the day, Tracker is a sweet, sensitive young dog who just needed a little time for his personality to shine. Now that it has, he’s ready to find a home where he can continue building confidence, making friends, and living his very best adventure-dog life.
