Hi, my name is Sheila. I am from Alabama. Sheila is a happy active puppy. When she first came to MN she was very shy, skittish, and scared. It took her some time to warm up to us, is still wary of quick movements, and is starting to approach us with more confidence. She has learned the joy of toys and playing with my dog, Jasper. Sheila does well with cats; she mostly ignores them but is curious and tries to sniff them when she can but respects their space. Sheila freezes on -leash. Up to now she's only had it attached to a collar; she may do better with a harness so we're going to try that this week. She's "mostly" house-trained, I mean she is a puppy so that is an on-going effort. A fenced yard may be helpful since her leash training has only just begun. Lastly, Sheila is teething, chew toys are everywhere!

Update 5/8/26 Eirwyn had a week full of exciting progress and growing confidence. He completed his first walk without his foster dog siblings, which was scary at first, but he slowly became more comfortable and successfully explored on his own. During the walk, he calmly handled meeting a kind neighbor, choosing to keep his distance but showing major improvement compared to a few months ago. He also experienced walking near heavy traffic and, after some initial fear, relaxed enough to sniff and explore his surroundings. He discovered birds for the first time—both robins and ducks—and was fascinated by them, quietly watching without barking or chasing. At home, Eirwyn made another huge step by laying on his foster mom’s lap while she used her computer, something that previously scared him enough to run away. Eirwyn is also becoming much more comfortable with his foster dad, despite originally seeming best suited for a female-only home. He has been cuddling next to him, resting his head on his lap, taking treats, and even accepting occasional pets. The nice weather meant lots of outdoor time, including walks, yard work, and an enthusiastic mud-playing session that ended with an easy bath. He also did wonderfully during a family barbecue, happily accepting treats from guests and enjoying time outside. Overall, Eirwyn’s resilience and steady progress have been incredible to watch. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Eirwyn (air-wyn) is a 2-year-old Golden Retriever/Great Pyrenees mix with a gentle heart and a resilient spirit. He is a sweet, affectionate dog who loves being outdoors, playing with his furry foster siblings, sneaking the occasional sock, and snuggling up for comfort. Like many Great Pyrenees mixes, he has a strong need for mental stimulation and thrives when kept busy, so experience with working breeds will be especially helpful for his future adopter. Because of his past, Eirwyn has some unique needs: *He is naturally timid and particularly fearful of men, so he’s seeking a female-only home where he can feel safe and secure. *He does best with a predictable routine and would be happiest in a calm environment without young children (older teens 15+ may be okay). *He also requires a confident, friendly resident dog to serve as his “mentor,” helping him continue to build confidence and navigate the world. *He would do best in a home with a physical fence, as he can be easily startled and is still developing reliable recall. *Due to his barking and anxiety, he is not suited for apartment living or homes with shared walls. One of Eirwyn’s more unusual challenges is his fear of screens—televisions, computers, and similar devices can be very frightening for him, though he is slowly learning to tolerate them when turned off. All dogs and puppies require supervision and training to be successful. Hi, my name is Honeysuckle but my foster just calls me Honey, because I am so sweet. I am a sensitive gal and very cautious with new people and situations.   I love other dogs; I actually think all dogs are my friends, so you may need to help me around those that aren't interested in being friends. I do require a home with another similarly sized, playful, confident dog to help with all the new things and who will share their toys, bones, etc with me. I love playing tug and wrestling with other dogs. I also enjoy chasing them when they chase a ball or have a toy so I can get it from them so they chase me.  I am not from MN but I enjoyed frolicking & rutting around in the snow. The ice I didn't enjoy, my legs went everywhere but underneath me. I didn't mind the cold, even though I am a Texas girl, I just pretended it's warm out. Rain, that doesn't bother me. Thunder, well that is some scarey stuff.  I love the outdoors, especially since it has warmed up. I will need a fenced yard as I enjoy running, I am very fast and I have a good amount of energy; I also enjoy sunbathing outdoors, taking in the fresh air & am part of the neighborhood watch committee. I am NOT a candidate for ecollars/invisible fence/long line/etc so I do require a physical fence. Dog parks are not appropriate while I adjust.  I love children and take treats very gently so I don't scare them when I am outside of the home.   I do however get super excited when kids come into the home, but I do settle down eventually. My foster borrows the neighbor kids to help me work on this, but I still need some more work to help me not play like an oversized puppy with them.  I don't understand why I can't wrestle with them, I watch them do it in their yard playing something they call, football? I have been around an infant and they are great, I enjoy cleaning their face and hands. I can carry on a conversation with them when they squeel and giggle, I'm not sure what they are saying, but my foster says it's fun to watch, but still keep a close eye on me as I am still young like them and I don't want to make a mistake.  I can be mouthy, especially when I am excited, but sometimes when I want your attention I will use that to gain it.  Did I mention that I LOVE belly rubs? I can be unsure when new people come into the home and and will bark at them.  If they give me some treats, a few minutes to observe them and the other dog(s) are ok with them, I will become friends with them too.  I just want to protect my home and humans.  With some more practice I am sure I will get better with this too. I have been working so hard and those people that I now know who visit but don't live there I am great at welcoming them. I am a professional chewer. Beware of stuffies as I swallow small chunks that I chew off & the squeakers are the best part;  so my foster only allows with supervision. I enjoy pigs ears, collagen chews, yak chews, cheek rolls, knee caps, retriever rolls and dogwood type chews to keep me occupied. I will also help you mulch any sticks in your yard.  My supervisory skills are top notch, especially when you are in the bathroom.  I will make sure you are fully protected from any monsters that may lurk in there while you use it and will lay down outside the door if I cannot get in to keep a watchful eye.  I sleep on a dog bed in my foster's room all night long and supervise from a dog bed or lay at her feet when she works from home. I enjoy a good snuggle when humans are on the couch, and I like to sneak on the bed for a snuggle when it's allowed. I know I would LOVE to sleep in a bed with my humans. I am fully potty trained.  I go hang out by the door and hope you will see me to let me outside but if I really need to go I will tap on the window. I also know how to use a doggy door if you have one, they sure are handy as I like to go in and out fequently.   I am usually fairly quiet when in my kennel.  I can get vocally excited when playing with other dogs, my foster says I purr when I play. I do bark when outside at new things and some of the neighbor dogs, but once I know things are safe and secure, I am good to go and mind my own business. I heard them say that I redirect well.  I am crate trained, I go right in when told, but don't forget to pay me for doing a good job. This is also my safe space.  I am ok chewing my high value treats in there or eating my dinner if necessary due to other animals in the home. But don't worry,  I don't resource guard anything when outside of the kennel either. My foster gives these things in the kennel just to make sure I can handle any senario I may encounter and don't become too spoiled only being given outside of the crate.   I have learned that car rides are fun and I hop right up into the back seat floor of the van onto the dog bed and stay there quietly for the trip.  I have also learned that leashes aren't a bad thing; I am told I walk well on leash. They both usually mean something fun is going to happen or at minimum I will get some treats. I am cautious in new situations, but if you're confident, I will be too. Just give me a minute to process what is going on. I may jump at a new sound but will also check it out if I am able.  I have been through a basic obedience class and some agility classes, I am getting very brave at trying new things. I have a good start for my new home to set us both up for success.  I have been enjoying agility classes more and more each time I go. Please keep up on my training outside the home as I have learned so many new things with the classes to help me overcome my fears and timidness. Working on this only at home isn't enough for me. I need the socialization skills. My foster or the rescue can suggest some places to bring me to for keeping up with what I have made progress on. It will also help me bond with you and keep me up on socializing. I can't promise that I won't make you start over with some of my skills, but I do have them with my current foster and some are scarey for me to try in new places or with lots of distractions yet, but I will get there.  I am not picky about my treats or food.  I do like coconut oil, peanut butter, green beans, hot dogs, cheese, bannanas, carrots, ice cubes, cucumbers, blueberries, pineapple, peppers of all colors and pumpkin so far. I do not like red delicious apples; what a silly name for something that does not match what it's called.  I enjoy being brushed. I don't mind my feet or backside being cleaned up or even my nails being trimmed but I am not a huge fan of bathtime, but I tolerate it now.  You will need patience as I adjust. I may just hang out to observe everything for a while, but let me out where I can see/hear everything safely. I do want to be part of the happenings, but I do need a space to feel secure when things are just too much. I tend to shutdown when I am scared, unsure or voices are raised.  My foster tells me I am a silly girl and near perfect. Do I sound like a perfect fit for you? Tootsie is a beautiful middle aged gal. She was found as a stray in a neighboring community. She is estimated to be between 5-7 years old and if she could talk she`d say she is in the prime of her life! Her breed(s) are unknown but she appears to have some bird dogs in her lineage. She`s a perfect 51 lbs. and has a wash & wear coat!Tootsie is pretty firm in her beliefs. She absolutely loves chasing the ball and running with her foster dad. She absolutely wishes cats did not exist. Tootsie absolutely believes humans are better than any other reward on the planet. Tootsie, also, absolutely does not want to share her home with any other canines.Tootsie can be made to appear as if she a handful, a problem, questionable. When she first came to us we were concerned about all of these things. But we know one thing. Tootsie craves praise and adoration from her people, and she has proven that day after day. She wants this. It is an incredible thing to witness a dog shed the old persona and try a new one on, especially a reactive dog. She`s not always going to get it right, so she needs people that will continue to have her back and not try to make her something she is not. Tootsie needs to be the only pet in the home. She has made huge improvements and is now comfortable walking past and casually being around other dogs in passing. Beyond that she is an easy keeper. Want to go for a long hike? She`s your gal! Feeling like a couch day? She`s got the snacks. Tootsie is going to love her new humans with every fiber of her being.
