Meet Azul! MO4PAWS is networking Azul for a family that can no longer keep him due to their living situation and son moving out of the country. He’s a very good and loving dog, all he wants is attention and love. He loves to go out and has the typical husky energy. He is currently an outdoor dog with the family he resides at. As would any dog, with some training and guidance he will be a wonderful dog for someone! When it comes to kids, he isn't aggressive with other people and has never bit anyone, he just can be a little jumpy as a result of his energy. We want to find a family that will just love him and take him in as part of their own!

Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at a meet and greet event on Saturday, April 6th at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express from 12-3pm, unless he/she is set up and adopted prior to the event. Those interested in meeting the dog can come out to our meet and greet event. We no longer do application approval onsite. Anyone adopting has been previously approved and set up to meet prior to the event. Adoption Fee: $600 Leo is a 5 Month old Husky Mix who is coming to you directly from the stages of Broadway! These brothers, Leo and Max, are full of charisma and charm, and are ready to impress you with their talented voices and wits. Arriving from the shelter, Max and Leo’s goal is to step into the limelight and steal their forever families’ hearts. DPS will be looking for separate homes for each brother because both pups need their individual spotlight. Just like his character in The Producers, Leo is a highly intelligent companion, picking up tricks very quickly and enjoying snuggles with his foster family. He also is a loyal brother, always rushing to aid Max in carrying out a scheme. As these boys grow, they will become large pups looking to keep their new families active and engaged. Words from the Foster:“Leo is a gentle, loving pup who loves cuddles and fuzzy blankets. He is often found curled up in front of the heating vent. While his brother is outgoing, Leo is more quietly clever. He quickly learned that sit gets him a treat and is eager to find out what other words get him snacks! Leo has heterochromia and his striking looks garner him attention from all who meet him! This Producer can’t wait to charm his new family! Leo is almost housetrained; his rare accidents (2/week) are at times when he is not encouraged to go outside after eating. Leo is doing well walking on a leash and knows how to sit to get a treat. Leo is undaunted by cold or rain, and happy to frolic outside regardless of weather. We leave Leo loose in the house unattended for ≤1.5 hr when he seems pretty chill – like after he has been out for a walk. He went through a very chewy phase and is coming out of it but there is still some risk. Leo goes easily in his crate with a little kibble enticement. Leo is a big snuggle bug but is also not a Velcro dog. He is very intuitive and aware of the other residents (furry and human) in the household. Max and Leo play very well with our big dog and have had curious interactions with our two cats. They are working on house training but are puppies, so of course accidents are expected! While the brothers are more mellow than your typical husky, they will still be active pups when fully grown and can’t wait to plan some adventures with their forever families!” A Day in the Life of Leo:“Max and Leo wake up around 7 AM after sleeping through the night. After some morning greetings, they run outside for a potty break. After breakfast, they go outside for about 1 hour to run around and play. Then they hang out inside with the resident dogs until their foster mom has a break to take them for a morning walk. After the morning walk they get a chewie and then nap. They have a kibble snack in the middle of the day and then romp outside and/or nap. They get another walk in the afternoon/early evening. They have dinner at 7 PM, go out immediately after to relieve themselves, then watch some TV and go out for an evening walk around 9:30/10 PM.” Eligibility to Adopt:Interested homes should have owned a dog in the past. Priority will be given to homes that have experience with training large-breed dogs. Kids in the home should be over the age of 7.April 25, 2024, 1:42 pm

Story
Star is fostered in CA. Star is great with dogs, but having energy can play excitedly and may not be a fit for puppies or elderly dogs. Star is a gorgeous girl with brains and energy to match! She might be blind, but that doesn’t slow her down at all. She navigates just fine and all the important things (food, sniffy walks, petting) don’t require sight. Star also had a couple of seizures, which the vet is calling idiopathic epilepsy since no other cause was found in testing, so she takes Keppra and that has prevented any more episodes. She has already learned a lot of words, including: focus, sit, step, and walking. Given her puppy energy level, she would love to be in a home with another dog her size or bigger and no small children or cats. Star *loves* meeting new people and dogs, exploring her environment, eating, walking, and snoozing in her crate or in the car. She is still learning to be the best dog, but she is a quick study. She needs a family experienced with Huskies or similar breeds who are willing to continue her education. If you are active and ready for an energetic beauty, contact us to learn more about Star! BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Story
Three years old, neutered, and was a rescue; it takes some time for him to earn your trust; he is strong and sometimes pulls on leashes when walking. He has typical stubborn husky behavior; no cats or small animals, and no kids under 14, please, due to his mouthy and nipping behavior, and his bite is strong; sometimes you will bleed if you force him, so do not! Always ask for his permission before patting him, especially when he is lying down, which is the most vulnerable position for an outdoor animal like him during his earlier life when he was left outside 24/7 in the yard with a lack of socialization and human interaction. He can stay by himself for around 4 to 6 hours, but remember that Husky is a pack animal, which is not recommended for more than 2 hours. When leaving him alone, you need to lock him outside or create a safe zone for him inside the house; just like most huskies, they will start to be destructive and chew when bored. Generally, after three years old, they will begin to calm down. He was never crate trained, rides decent in the car, but makes lots of exciting noise! Trial adoption is recommended; feel free to see if he fits your family, I need to find him a good home, so I do not mind taking him back if things do not go well with the adoption.

Story
A beautiful husky weighing 58 pounds was found stray from the City of Porterville in California. The animal has a microchip, and all shots are up to date. You need to meet him in person to appreciate it! Mellow and calm, very cuddly and affectionate. He is good with kids over 14 but no small animals, and he does not like big dogs; he is better off being the only animal in the household. Typical escape artist, he will accompany a GPS collar as well. So even if he hops the fence (which he did, according to the previous owner), you can track him whenever, wherever. Having this husky is a commitment, but he is a wonderful companion, and it's better when his handlers work from home most of the time. I will also guide you through his journey by conditioning him and supplying crates and calming remedies when needed. Our commitment to every animal is essential for a successful adoption and saving their lives. We are here whenever you need us after the adoption. Shell this animal is not a good fit, we will gladly accept his return.
