I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereMeet Gus, the furry handsome boy described as a loving teddy bear. He is a sweet boy who finds genuine happiness in simply sitting for a treat or strolling beside his hooman friends. Gus has a friendly temperament. He does best with an active lifestyle with lots of daily exercise and mental stimulation, and he is happy to communicate with you in his doggie voice when you have not met his needs. This cuddly boy enjoys belly rubs and is content to curl up on the couch with you after a full day of adventures! Gus has done well with other gentle, tolerant doggies in playgroups at the shelter. He engages in some play with other dogs and is sometimes content to just explore the yard on his own. He may do best in a home with another dog who enjoys occasional play sessions. Story
I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereMeet Luther, the lovable senior gentleman who exudes warmth and charm at every turn! At 7 years young, Luther is the epitome of sweetness, making him the wonderful companion for anyone seeking a loyal and affectionate friend.  If you’re looking for someone to be by your side as you go about your day, Luther is your guy!  He's friendly &  housebroken. He loves to eat and get treats!  He believes every Amazon package has treats or toys for him. Luther is crate trained (although he would probably prefer to sleep with you if you allow it!) and well-behaved in the home. At his current foster home he has been left for up to 10 hours free roaming or in a large x pen while his foster goes to work.  He is free to sleep where he pleases at night.  He goes from the open crate to the couch to the floor. He does have a little mischievous side, by pulling his bed out of the crate, sneaking treats that have been put out within reach, or opening a plastic bin that contains treats. Don’t let his “senior” status fool you.  He loves chasing tennis balls or squeaky toys.  He is a heavy chewer and enjoys a good hard bone or “indestructible” toys.   His former foster said he enjoyed playing with children of all ages.  He knows commands like sit, down, no, shake, high five. He knows “come” & “wait” indoors when there aren’t distractions. He uses the dog door when his foster is home with him & enjoys lying outside. Even though he loves to be by a person’s side, he does not have separation anxiety. Luther can be barky and reactive towards other dogs if you’re out walking with him.  With some patience and training, Luther's leash manners will only continue to improve.  It is easier to redirect him away from smaller dogs than larger ones.  He does seem to have a prey drive, so a home without cats might be best. He dislikes loud motorcycles, he’ll bark at them if he hears them. He likes going in the car, but has a hard time settling down and will bark at cars, motorcycles, people, or nothing at all sometimes during the ride.  He does bark at the mail carrier and delivery people when they’re at the door, but quiets as soon as they’re gone. Luther would do well with a family with a large backyard to romp around in and people to dote on in a quiet neighborhood. He might do well with another well matched dog. Don't miss the chance to welcome this wonderful dog into your life! Click here to learn how to adopt, and submit your adoption questionnaire. May 28, 2024, 4:23 pm

House-trained, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Sequoia is super sweet, energetic, and quite unique, maybe even a little quirky. She’s very friendly and affectionate with people, and not reactive to dogs on walks. She loves belly rubs. Sequoia doesn’t seem to have a lot of leash-walking experience, and likes to keep tabs on her human by circling around you and nudging you along, which could be part of her herding dog instincts. She can be a little anxious and is not particularly interested in toys, preferring to be out and about and observing everything going on. She would likely do best in an active household where she can be engaged. She is housetrained. Sequoia is currently in a foster home. If you're interested in her, please email KSwanson@cityofberkeley.info. First, we'll set up a virtual meeting with their current foster family via phone, Zoom, or Facetime, to provide you with more detailed information. Then, if you feel that Sequoia might be a good adoption fit, shelter staff will gladly coordinate an up-close and personal meet and greet with your potential family member. Thank you for your support!

Story
This is Brownie, who has the cutest markings, making him look like he’s wearing a hat – the rest of him is snow white. He’s ready to lounge on the couch with you or lead your sled: your choice. This dog is very adaptable, and he really just wants to be engaged with you. Brownie is a nice leash walker and very curious, but polite around other dogs. He enjoys being out and sniffing around. He can be just a tiny bit reserved around new people, but he deals with it by just hanging back slightly until he’s sure. After that, he’ll pretty much follow you anywhere. Brownie seems to be housetrained.

Story
Are you a Husky lover? Parker is all Husky. He has lots of energy and loves to be on the go. Being confined (like in a shelter) is not his favorite thing. Once he’s out on a walk, he is very happy. He’d probably be even happier running. Parker would like to be on the go, and will enjoy an active household where people are around and doing interesting things. He does not do “boring.” He might even like to try being an agility dog, or even just general training to keep his mind and body occupied. A back yard would be on his wish list as well. Parker already appears housetrained and is ready to go!

Sasha is a gorgeous red Siberian husky with a queenly demeanor. Like many huskies, she`s no fool over strangers, preferring to play it cool until she can thoroughly vet you.&#10 &#10 Once you pass her sniff test (and you will), she`ll show her playful and affectionate side - but even then prepare to experience some diva-tude!&#10&#10 Sasha`s cheatsheet:&#10&#10 * Enjoys walks and going places.&#10 * Not big on cuddling&#10 * Needs plenty of time to settle in and feel comfortable&#10 * Requires an all-adult home&#10 * No other pets or small children&#10 * Loves and guards her food and toys&#10 * Is funny and goofy once relaxed.&#10 &#10 If you have big-dog experience and you also prefer your pets independent, Sasha might be the perfect dog for you.
