Gus has a friendly temperament. He does best with an active lifestyle with lots of daily exercise and mental stimulation, and he is happy to communicate with you in his doggie voice when you have not met his needs. This cuddly boy enjoys belly rubs and is content to curl up on the couch with you after a full day of adventures! Gus has done well with other gentle, tolerant doggies in playgroups at the shelter. He engages in some play with other dogs and is sometimes content to just explore the yard on his own. He may do best in a home with another dog who enjoys occasional play sessions. I am in a foster home and not at the shelter. If you are interested in adopting, submit an adoption questionnaire by email. Learn more hereIntroducing Juneau, a classic husky beauty! Although she came to the shelter undersocialized, Juneau has made great progress in foster. She is sometimes cautious with strangers, but will shower those she trusts with all the love. In a quiet home, Juneau will continue to thrive. She is potty trained (yard only), has great house manners, and can be left home alone. Walking outside on leash is a relatively new hobby, and she's currently working on not getting over excited when she sees other dogs. She has strong prey drive, which would make co-habitating with cats unlikely. Juneau would enjoy being your one and only companion, but could also do well with another tolerant dog -- she has been playful with puppies in foster, and snuggles with calm adult dogs. She has also spent time with respectful kids, who report she is softer than a fleece blanket! Juneau is 3 years old and 52 lbs. Follow her in foster with @adopt.this.dog.eastbay on Instagram! Story
I am at Oakland Animal Services in kennel Dog H:3Meet Holland, your new adventure buddy and sidekick extraordinaire! This sweet and happy young girl is bursting with energy and enthusiasm. Holland adores engaging with you for pets and affection, and she's equally thrilled to run alongside you and play fetch. Her active nature makes her a perfect candidate for agility training—she's incredibly agile and has a knack for balancing like a pro! When it comes to socializing with other dogs, Holland is a star. She's met some polite canine friends and loves a good game of chase. She enjoys playful interactions with medium to high energy levels while maintaining a neutral social dynamic. If you're looking for a fun-loving companion who's ready to join you on all your adventures, look no further than Holland! Come meet her today and discover the joy of having her by your side.  Based on spending some time in a foster home, we've learned a little more about her: Great on a leash, likes to walk, doesn't pull and will match your pace. She's also not leash reactive to other dogs. Perfect in the car, we belt her in and she lays down and enjoys the ride. Potty trained (though she'll only use our backyard, won't potty on walks right now) Working on crate training, she doesn't love it, but has slept in her crate through the night. She needs about 5 mins to settle down, but I'd expect that to get better with consistency. LOVES other dogs. We have two dogs and she loves to play chase with one of them, the other is older and currently recovering from surgery, but Holland has responded to his corrections and now leaves him alone. She would really thrive in a home with another dog, or in an adoptive home where she gets to spend time with doggie friends. She has very soft fur, a mostly white coat with some sprinkling of gray and black, and she has heterochromia eyes (one brown and one blue) For those unfamiliar with Huskies, they are a bit vocal, Holland definitely has some of that when she's excited, but I haven't heard her full on howl. Holland will need an active family, we have been taking her on 2 longer walks a day (1-1.5miles, once in the morning and once at night), and with a little bit of playing, she'll settle down and sleep while I work. Story
Sasha is a gorgeous red Siberian husky with a queenly demeanor. Like many huskies, she`s no fool over strangers, preferring to play it cool until she can thoroughly vet you.&#10 &#10 Once you pass her sniff test (and you will), she`ll show her playful and affectionate side - but even then prepare to experience some diva-tude!&#10&#10 Sasha`s cheatsheet:&#10&#10 * Enjoys walks and going places.&#10 * Not big on cuddling&#10 * Needs plenty of time to settle in and feel comfortable&#10 * Requires an all-adult home&#10 * No other pets or small children&#10 * Loves and guards her food and toys&#10 * Is funny and goofy once relaxed.&#10 &#10 If you have big-dog experience and you also prefer your pets independent, Sasha might be the perfect dog for you. Bonus: An admirer has paid her adoption fee so you don`t have to. Come meet her from 12-4PM any day but Mondays at 1590 Fortmann Way in Alameda!

Story
Aruba is a very sweet senior husky. She was not claimed after being found as a stray but seemed well cared for. Such a good girl deserves a forever home that will love her through her retirement years. Aruba is patiently waiting to give you all her love and devotion. * 8 years old * 41 lbs. On the small side. * Mellow * Playful and silly with people (once she gets over a little shyness) * Not especially fond of other dogs * Quiet * Easy to walk * Respectful kids are fine Aruba does fine around other dogs as long as they don't expect a playmate. Too much attention seems to get on her nerves and you'll see her rare cranky side. You can meet Aruba any afternoon but Monday at our main location of 1590 Fortmann Way in Alameda, California. There is no adoption fee if you are 62 or older!

Nova is a 2 year old husky. She loves talking back. She knows basic commands like sit, lay, paw, and stay. She's also a handful. Has tons of energy. We also have an Alaskan Malamute and we can't handle both. Nova is an expert digger so dirt yards are easy for her to escape. She can't jump but she loves finding ways to escape.

Story
Sequoia is super sweet, energetic, and quite unique, maybe even a little quirky. She’s very friendly and affectionate with people, and not reactive to dogs on walks. She loves belly rubs. Sequoia doesn’t seem to have a lot of leash-walking experience, and likes to keep tabs on her human by circling around you and nudging you along, which could be part of her herding dog instincts. She can be a little anxious and is not particularly interested in toys, preferring to be out and about and observing everything going on. She would likely do best in an active household where she can be engaged. She is housetrained. Sequoia is currently in a foster home. If you're interested in her, please email KSwanson@cityofberkeley.info. First, we'll set up a virtual meeting with their current foster family via phone, Zoom, or Facetime, to provide you with more detailed information. Then, if you feel that Sequoia might be a good adoption fit, shelter staff will gladly coordinate an up-close and personal meet and greet with your potential family member. Thank you for your support!

Luna is a lovely and unassuming girl who just wants affection. She waits patiently for her turn to go for a walk, and is very well behaved once she gets out. She is dog friendly, and even served as a helper dog for a shy friend on her very first walk outside the shelter. Luna is very mellow and easy to handle. She’s also soft and cuddly. She will make a great family dog and would be happy to live with another dog or on her own. Luna is an option for just about any home – come meet her today and see if she is your perfect fit!

Story
Ivy is a 1-year-old chow mix pup looking for a forever home. Ivy is lovely but still very much a puppy. She is still quite mouthy. Ivy is housebroken and loves toys. She is great in the car but needs more training to not pull on leash. She will alert bark when someone comes to the door but is not very barky. My daughter rescued her from an abusive situation two months ago but I have two elderly dogs for whom she is just too much. She is athletic and would make a great running or hiking companion. She gets along well with dogs in the dog park and at the beach.
