Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Craig was in a foster home for a couple of months before transferring to his current foster home. He had a jaw injury and ended up having surgery to remove part of his lower jaw bone.  He also has no teeth.  He is a good eater when food is softened by soaking kibble in water with a little wet food. Very treat/food oriented.  His food must have sufficient water added to it to ensure he is hydrated.  He does not drink water from the water bowl—-but it is always accessible to him. He is good at pottying outside on a regular schedule. If he gets excited his shooter may go off; so he does have occasional accidents.  They are becoming less frequent as I learn triggers. But routine serves him the best.  No accidents at night when in bed.  Truly a good boy!  Does not walk as his foster mom is recovering from foot injury.   His recall is not bad but not the best either (somewhere in the middle)   He is under foot so you need to walk with extreme care.  He wants to be by his person all the time. He’s very loving, easy to care for, trainable and not a barker. He is very friendly with everyone. Doors need to be watched as he will “scoot” when he has the chance!  He is a very pleasant dog to have around. His breed needs to be on a grooming schedule and he does well at the groomers!  He has character plus. He needs to be watched outside because he likes to chew plants.  I will truly miss him upon adoption!!   Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, alter, prepaid microchip, dewormed, dental, jaw surgery,  Rabies vaccine, DAPP vaccine, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX , flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $250.00 Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.September 22, 2023, 11:21 pm

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Did I catch your eye? Learn more about me by reading my profile below; I just might be your new best friend! Apply on our website ( https://www.healingheartsrescue.org/adopt )  to  set up a private meeting or check below for my adoption event schedule. Age: Approximately 10 years old Weight: 18 lbs Dog friendly: Yes Cat friendly: TBD Kid friendly: Yes Potty trained: Good on a schedule Crate trained: Working on it I have fostered a few dogs throughout the last couple of years, and have fallen for all of them. My current foster boy is Lucas. He has stolen my heart. He had a beautiful story. Living with a caring owner along with his mom, and two brothers. Spending time with him, you know he was well cared for and loved. Unfortunately, he lost his owner. When that happened he, his brothers and mom found themselves in a shelter, and then eventually rescued by Healing Hearts and brought to Minnesota. How confusing It had to be for these four pups. Lucas also had an unexpected medical situation that came up a few weeks after arriving. He was brought to the vet, and they confirmed that Lucas had lost his sight. They say that dogs adjust very well, and I have to say, he really has! He is able to navigate quite well, jumping into the bed, walking around the house finding his way around the yard. I keep an eye when he is outside, and if I feel he’s trying to find me, I call his name. He comes running. I know Lucas is aware of all the changes. The evidence is that he needs his person. He finds security being with them. I feel the right home for him would be a place where he is not left alone for long periods. At this point it is stressful for him. Lucas is good with other dogs. We have two beagles, and they all get along well. He is also good around children. I think he is the perfect combination of chill and energy. He has become a wonderful shop dog (I have a retail store). He mostly takes it easy in his bed. But he is always up for a nice walk too! We usually go for a couple of miles together, and he seems to really enjoy it. He is great to hang out with and watch movies in the evening. A good snuggle buddy. If you’re looking for a best buddy companion, Lucas could be the right one for you. He really is such a sweet boy Adoption Fee: $425  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. INTERESTED IN MEETING ME? Meet Beans! This handsome little guy is a 1 year old Shih Tzu weighing 13 pounds. He's friendly and has the cutest little goofy facial expressions. He's a happy wiggle worm who's fantastic with kids of all ages and other dogs.Beans is an Ambassadog, which means his higher adoption fee will give us much needed help covering dogs with more medical expenses.IMPORTANT: Please read all below, especially if you live outside of Texas, which is where our rescue is located.Apply to adopt on our website: https://www.charmingpetrescue.org/adoptAll of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.ALL of our animals are located in Boerne, TX, but transport after adoption is available to other states for a $300 fee for dogs or an additional fee varying by location for cats. If you are seeing our pets posted in your state, that's because you live near a transport stop, they are not currently at that location. Petfinder lists our pets as ''Out of Town'' pets at other locations, and Adopt-a-Pet lists our location as a Transport stop. Those are currently the only options they offer to make this clear, so we put this description we've put at the bottom to explain it. You can read more about transport here: www.charmingpetrescue.org/transportWe understand transport is not an option for everyone, but we offer it at the cost we pay the transport company for those who wish to adopt from us.September 22, 2023, 9:04 pm

Story
Hi! My name is McGruff and I am from a shelter in Oklahoma! From McGruff: Single white male seeking long term committed relationship. I have beautiful expressive brown eyes and curly blond hair. I love to snuggle. I will keep you warm all four seasons. I enjoy walks... really ANYTHING to be with you! I will protect you from squirrels and strangers. From the foster: McGruff is a sweet boy who wants to be with his person at all times. So much so, he has separation anxiety. He is doing well with his current medications but in the past has been destructive when left alone. He does well in his crate so it is important that when he is left that he is put in his crate so he isn't destructive. It would be best that his person is mainly home (retired, work from home) He has decided squirrels are the enemy, the furry beasts do love to torment him... (they know he is on a tether and stay just beyond his reach). He gets along fine with the other dogs in the house. He will share dog beds and lap space. No shared walls for this guy. At times he will sing the song of his people. (squirrels, rabbits, walkers bring a need to sound the alarm...) He is getting better at calming when guests arrive and does have medication that he can take prior to known stressful situations. He is a sweetie and just wants to be loved and to be with his person. Are you ready to be his everything? Medical Information: Since my arrival at Secondhand Hounds I've been seen at the SHH Veterinary Center and my medical team addressed a few things my adopter should know about! At my first exam, the Vet noticed I needed dental surgery, which was performed on 8/23/23. I had 7 teeth extracted, but I recovered well and my adopter should monitor oral health with my primary care vet in the future. My adopter should also monitor my knees as it was noted that I have grade 1 Medial Patellar Luxation on both knees (rear legs) that can be controlled or supported with joint supplements, however this is something that should be monitored by my adopter with my primary care vet in the future as well. There were a few masses noted, one on my neck and one on my scrotum. The mass on my neck was drained, determined to be benign and no surgical intervention was required. The mass on my scrotum was excised, submitted to a pathologist for testing and it was determined to be a low grade mast cell tumor. The SHH Vet says removal with wide enough margins like I had will most likely be curative. My foster has been working with me on separation anxiety and I have done well on a daily anxiety treatment called Fluoxetine. This medication may be needed life long depending on my needs in my new home. I'm sure my foster mom would be happy to talk more about this with a potential adopter!

Story
Hi, I'm Comet. I am from Kentucky. From the foster: Comet is such a good boy. One of the easiest fosters we have had. He is friendly and loves all people and dogs. His favorite things to do is to lay outside and soak up the sun. He gets the wiggles when we pick up his leash because he absolutely loves his walks. We do not have a fenced backyard but Comet does so well on a leash that we look forward to our walks together. If you are looking for a mature gentleman for your household, Comet is it. No puppy shenanigans and has great house manners. Medical Bio: During my exam at the SHH Vet Center, my vet heard I had a heart murmur. My chest x-rays were sent to a cardiology specialist and it was determined that my murmur is caused by something called Mitral Valve Endocardiosis or a type of heart disease commonly seen in smaller breed dogs like me. At this stage, the vets don't see any heart enlargement or other issues stemming from this disease and I will be able to manage this well with no cardiac medical care needed or recommended, just annual check ups with my primary care veterinarian. They may also want to know this so they can use cardiac safe medications or protocols for me in the future. I hope to meet you soon, I'm looking forward to getting settled into my forever home! My adopters should also know that it was determined that I will need a dental procedure for some potential extractions and will possibly need repair on my oronasal fistula. SHH will schedule this procedure as soon as possible, but this may take place after I have been welcomed into my new home.

In addition to the following profile for these dogs, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Meet Sophie and Tucker, a bonded Shih Tzu pair who are great companions. They came into rescue when their owner died unexpectedly. They must be adopted together. Sophie, the female, is 9 years old and weigh 10 pounds and Tucker, the male, is 3 years old and weighs 19 pounds. They have luscious tri-color coats with reddish brown, black, and beige colors. They are calm and obedient dogs who are very easy to care for. They are housetrained and love to receive a treat for going potty outdoors. After going out one last time before bed at night, they sleep undisturbed with their foster mom until she awakens and takes them out to potty first thing in the morning. They ride beautifully in the car and walk well on a leash. Both like to cuddle with their people and follow you all over the house and especially love when people and dogs come to visit. They are both very docile and cooperative will let you clean their faces with a wet cloth and not object. Sophie is a gentle, low energy lady. She wants nothing more than to sit on your lap and get petted! She is very friendly and loves everyone. Sometimes she can be a bit scared of loud noises, but she finds comfort in her people. She does enjoy walks, but tends to only want to go a few blocks before wanting to head home. Sophie takes a couple of medications for allergies, which she will need for the rest of her life. She does not generally play with toys, Tucker does. Tucker is a playful snuggle boy! He loves to play with his people, and his big sister, Sophie. He still has the last of his puppy energy and loves going for walks. Tucker always keeps an eye on Sophie, checks on her, and naps next to her wherever she decides to nap. He protects and grooms her and is upset if you take her away without him. Tucker may get a bit nosey and pokes into things. He really likes certain types of toys and seems to have a time of day when he gets really playful. Requirements for applicants interested in Sophie and Tucker include: • A family with or without children, but children must be older than 10 years. Prefer adopters who are home most of the day. No older senior applicants will be considered due to Tucker’s young age. • Must adopt both dogs together (bonded pair). • Willing to take them outdoors for walks regularly every day, must be physically able to care for a young dog such as Tucker, and can handle two dogs. • A home within 30 miles of Eden Prairie, MN. • Willing to continue with treatment plan for Sophie’s allergies. • Must commit to attending the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September. Sophie and Tucker are spayed/neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. They will have a dental before they are adopted. The adoption fee for Sophie is $120.00 plus $9.03 sales tax for a total of $129.03. Tucker’s adoption fee is $320.00 plus $24.08 sales tax for a total of $344.08. The total amount to adopt both dogs is $473.11. The adoption fees reflect a $100.00 discount for adopting both dogs together. To meet Sophie and Tucker, please complete an adoption application on the STRMN website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see them and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at Chuck and Don’s at 6821 York Avenue South, Edina near Southdale.

Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Doc, this 8-month-old Shih Tzu/Maltese puppy is amazing! In so many ways he is all puppy: curious about everything, playful, mischievous, active, and happy to jump on any toy or person! Doc loves to walk, explore, and meet his neighbors. He will snuffle and bark at strange movements and noises - especially when he sees birds, squirrels, people, and other wildlife outside. He is fast as lightning, so his new owners will need to always have a leash on him when a door is opened so he does not slip out. Favorite toys range from small to big, squeaky to silent, and little balls to plush bears with eyes and ribbons! At the same time Doc is acting out as a puppy, you can scoop him up and he will cuddle right into your lap and arms. He loves to have lots of tummy rubs and gives lots of kisses. He is a very sweet little boy with plenty of personality and love to give. His vet and groomer both say he is a gentle, loving little boy. Doc will sleep through the night right beside you in bed, although he would also love to snuggle in with his foster brother. He is house trained, and he is taken out during the day every 4 hours to go potty. Doc just had a haircut, fully vetted and ready for a new forever home! Puppies always need basic training, so a puppy class is highly recommended for Doc to learn boundaries and good behavior. His foster mom has found him to be a good listener and quick learner we know he would love a fun class! He is well socialized and gets along with other small dogs and all people. If you have the time and energy for a sweet, lovable puppy like Doc, please submit an application if your home meets these requirements: • You live within 45 miles of Bloomington, MN • Must be home enough that Doc can be let outside every four hours. • No children under the age of 12 - a puppy is known for play nips and lots of jumping. • You must have indoor space for a puppy that loves to run and play not just with toys, but with you! Doc loves to play fetch with you! • Be committed to consistent walks 2-3 times a day with lots of socialization and interaction. • Sorry, no apartments or condos because Doc will bark at noises. • It is not required you have another small pup, but Doc would love that—or a small, active, friendly neighborhood pup he could have daily playdates with! (Doc IS used to living with 3 other playful pups in his household) • A commitment to attend our Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion every year in September. Doc is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is 470.00, plus $40.07 sales tax for a total fee cost of $510.07. To meet Doc, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at Chuck and Don’s at 6821 York Avenue South, Edina near Southdale.
