Meet Sir!  Don’t let the fancy name fool you - Sir is a fun-loving, easygoing 4-year-old Shih Tzu mix who is ready to find his forever home! Sir was found roaming alone near an apartment building in the Twin Cities. His original owner did not claim him so he made his way to No Dog Left Behind for a new start in life. First things first, Sir got a much needed groom and is feeling quite dapper! Sir is friendly, well-mannered, and already has some great skills under his belt. He’s mostly potty trained, kennel trained, walks great on leash, and rides well in the car. Sir gets along well with other dogs and people of all ages. As with most small dogs, Sir does vocalize some when he sees interesting things outside or hears an odd noise. Sir loves his toys. He's very excited to bring his favorite stuffy, Lamby, to his forever home. He loves playing a good game of fetch or spending time outside. Initially, Sir was more of a “I’ll lay somewhat near you” kind of guy but, as he's gotten more comfortable in his foster home, he loves to stand on your lap/chest for side scritches or curl up near your lap. Some dogs are able to recover from neglect or abuse faster than others…..if only they could tell us about those early years of their life. Cody is a 3.5 yr old. 13# male Shih Tzu/maltese former breeder dog that is still in the process of his recovery, and is hoping someone with patience and previous dog experience is able to take him and continue working with him. Another small, playful dog and a secure fenced yard are also requirements to help him be successful. Cody would not be suited to a family with children of any age because of his fears of new people, loud noises, and fast movements. He has been in his foster home for quite a while – he trusts his foster mom, and is relaxed and seeks attention from her, but transitioning into a new home could be like starting all over again. Let me tell you more about him. His foster mom is retired, and home with him most of the time. Cody prefers to approach her for cuddle time when she is sitting or laying down, instead of towering over him. He comes to her when she calls him inside the house, but doesn’t have recall when he is out in the yard, so he is either contained in a kennel area when out, or drags a long leash around in his fenced area so you can use that instead of grabbing at him when he’s out. If someone scares or forces him, or raises their voice, it takes quite a while for him to forgive you. He tolerates meeting new people, but is more fearful of men and might try to hide from them. His foster home has a doggie door that he has learned to use, but his new home might not; Cody is willing to go out into the cold for a short time, so you will need to establish a schedule that works for him, and have a potty pad down for emergencies. His meals are dry food soaked in water for 5 minutes – he can be reluctant to eat, and acts like he is watching for new people to approach. Cody is most comfortable around the resident dogs, and loves to run and play with them. The other dog/dogs in the home should be tolerant, playful, be good pack leaders and “show him the ropes”. Cody rides OK in the car, in a crate. In warmer weather, he has been taken on short walks – doesn’t understand the purpose of a walk when there is a perfectly wonderful fenced yard to run around in. Cody has a loud bark, so best suited to single-family home instead of a building that shares a wall with another family. Cody is neutered, and current on vaccinations. This adorable Shih Tzu/Dachshund mix is as sweet as they come and has a quiet, loving nature that makes her easy to adore. One of the cutest things about Coco is the way she walks—she has a little bunny-hop style that is guaranteed to make you smile. Coco is happiest simply being near her people. She loves companionship, whether it’s from humans or other dogs, and is content to quietly follow you from room to room throughout the day. She enjoys cuddling, relaxing nearby, and keeping an eye on her favorite people. While she can be a little shy when first meeting new people, it doesn’t take long for her to realize she’s safe. Once she does, she becomes incredibly trusting and affectionate. Coco gets along wonderfully with all dog-friendly dogs and would enjoy having a canine companion. However, she does not require another dog as long as her people are home frequently and able to provide the companionship she loves. This sweet girl enjoys soft treats, cozy places to nap, and having a comfortable spot where she can watch for her people. As part of her daily routine, coco receives eye drops in the vending and 1/2 tablet of Benadryl twice a day with a little canned food. She’s very cooperative and does well with this. Coco isn’t looking for excitement or adventure—she’s looking for love. Garth knows the commands “come” and “go potty!” Although, listening and following through are still a work in progress. He’s a curious little guy who loves going on walks and sniffing everything he can find. When he encounters something he isn’t quite sure about, he may jump and bark at it until he realizes there’s nothing to worry about. Garth enjoys playing independently and loves chewing on his toys and bones. He also likes to know where his people are and prefers to be able to see you and stay nearby. He does well in his crate, but if he hears you nearby,  he may start barking to let you know he’d like to come out. The good news is that he usually settles down pretty quickly. We’ve also learned that Garth benefits from designated quiet time. He’s still learning how to fully settle himself, but with some structure and downtime, he does very well. This little guy is sweet, silly, curious, and absolutely full of personality. Matilda is a sweet little girl looking for a family that will love having a tiny shadow by their side. She may be a little shy at first, but once she feels safe and comfortable, you’ll have a loyal best friend for life. Whether you’re relaxing on the couch, doing chores around the house, gardening in the backyard, or just going about your day, Matilda wants to be right there with you.
