This adorable Shih Tzu/Dachshund mix is as sweet as they come and has a quiet, loving nature that makes her easy to adore. One of the cutest things about Coco is the way she walks—she has a little bunny-hop style that is guaranteed to make you smile. Coco is happiest simply being near her people. She loves companionship, whether it’s from humans or other dogs, and is content to quietly follow you from room to room throughout the day. She enjoys cuddling, relaxing nearby, and keeping an eye on her favorite people. While she can be a little shy when first meeting new people, it doesn’t take long for her to realize she’s safe. Once she does, she becomes incredibly trusting and affectionate. Coco gets along wonderfully with all dog-friendly dogs and would enjoy having a canine companion. However, she does not require another dog as long as her people are home frequently and able to provide the companionship she loves. This sweet girl enjoys soft treats, cozy places to nap, and having a comfortable spot where she can watch for her people. Her favorite setup is her kennel with the door left open or a soft blanket-filled box near the doorway where she can keep an eye on everything while waiting for her family to return. As part of her daily routine, coco receives eye drops in the vending and 1/2 tablet of Benadryl twice a day with a little canned food. She’s very cooperative and does well with this. Coco isn’t looking for excitement or adventure—she’s looking for love. She would thrive in a home where she can be included in daily life, receive plenty of affection, and spend her days close to the people she loves most. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. Meet Franky, a 3-year-old, 14-pound Shih Tzu mix who was found alone on the street with no known history. Although his past remains a mystery, Franky clearly understands the comforts of home— especially how to tuck himself perfectly into the corner of the bed, surrounded by pillows! 😂 Franky is completely potty trained, low-shedding and wonderfully affectionate. He quickly bonded with his foster and follows them around the house. His big, expressive eyes can still look a little unsure at times as he adjusts to all the changes in his life. But even when Franky is uncertain, he is incredibly sweet and gentle with everyone he meets. He may not always know what’s happening, but his response is still to be kind. He really is a brave little guy. He currently lives with three resident dogs and is learning how to share attention and respect boundaries. Franky can be bossy when he wants his person all to himself, especially with smaller dogs close to his size. He does compete for his foster’s attention. Franky may be able to live well with another dog after a slow, proper introduction with an adopter who understands his tendency to dominate interactions, particularly with smaller dogs. He would also be perfectly content as the only dog, happily soaking up all the attention for himself. Franky lives successfully with a 6-year-old child and has shown no concerning behavior toward people. Franky doesn’t bark much (if any at all!) , walks beautifully on leash and enjoys everything from neighborhood strolls to longer adventures. Hi, my name is King Kong and I am from Missouri! I am a sweet young pup who is learning all about this big world. I love to crawl my way across new spaces when I am scared or unfamiliar with something, although it doesn't take me long to warm up and then watch out world as I want to say HI to everyone and everything. I particularly LOVE other dogs and people. I am working on my kennel training and only complain a little. I hate going potty in my kennel so I will make a fuss to let you know I need to go out, since I am so young though, I can only hold it for a little bit.

Meet Ivy, a sweet 9-year-old Shih Tzu mix weighing just 11 pounds. This petite girl loves nothing more than being held and cuddled, and she enjoys short walks and car rides with her people.Ivy is house-trained and will go to the door or sometimes bark when she needs to go outside. She has not shown much interest in toys, but she has a charming little habit that is sure to make you smile: Ivy dances when it's mealtime!Since Ivy was a stray before coming to Pet Haven, she was given plenty of time to decompress in her foster home. She stayed in a den behind a baby gate and was slowly introduced to the other animals. She has done OK meeting dogs, but if another dog gets too pushy, Ivy will let them know with a growl. She would prefer a home without energetic puppies, and any resident dogs will need slow, thoughtful introductions. Her comfort level with cats is unknown.Ivy has not had much exposure to children, so older, gentle children age 10 and up are recommended. She would love a quieter home where she can enjoy her favorite activities: cuddling, relaxing with her people, taking a short daily stroll, and going for car rides.Because Ivy was an unclaimed stray, she will need a fenced yard or a tie-out for safe outdoor time. Some dogs are able to recover from neglect or abuse faster than others…..if only they could tell us about those early years of their life. Cody is a 3.5 yr old. 13# male Shih Tzu/maltese former breeder dog that is still in the process of his recovery, and is hoping someone with patience and previous dog experience is able to take him and continue working with him. Another small, playful dog and a secure fenced yard are also requirements to help him be successful. Cody would not be suited to a family with children of any age because of his fears of new people, loud noises, and fast movements. He has been in his foster home for quite a while – he trusts his foster mom, and is relaxed and seeks attention from her, but transitioning into a new home could be like starting all over again. Let me tell you more about him. His foster mom is retired, and home with him most of the time. Cody prefers to approach her for cuddle time when she is sitting or laying down, instead of towering over him. He comes to her when she calls him inside the house, but doesn’t have recall when he is out in the yard, so he is either contained in a kennel area when out, or drags a long leash around in his fenced area so you can use that instead of grabbing at him when he’s out. If someone scares or forces him, or raises their voice, it takes quite a while for him to forgive you. He tolerates meeting new people, but is more fearful of men and might try to hide from them. His foster home has a doggie door that he has learned to use, but his new home might not; Cody is willing to go out into the cold for a short time, so you will need to establish a schedule that works for him, and have a potty pad down for emergencies. His meals are dry food soaked in water for 5 minutes – he can be reluctant to eat, and acts like he is watching for new people to approach. Cody is most comfortable around the resident dogs, and loves to run and play with them. The other dog/dogs in the home should be tolerant, playful, be good pack leaders and “show him the ropes”. Cody rides OK in the car, in a crate. In warmer weather, he has been taken on short walks – doesn’t understand the purpose of a walk when there is a perfectly wonderful fenced yard to run around in. Cody has a loud bark, so best suited to single-family home instead of a building that shares a wall with another family. Cody is neutered, and current on vaccinations. Mustard is a sweet older gentleman who believes life is best enjoyed at a slower pace. This calm little guy is pretty much a professional couch potato—give him a comfy spot to curl up and he’s perfectly content! Mustard is visually impaired and needs daily eye drops for dry eye, but he gets around and enjoys life just fine. He does best with a calm routine and gentle handling, as fast movements can make him nervous. He is good with other dogs, especially when they respect his slower pace and personal space. Mustard is pee-pad trained and will also potty outside when taken out on a leash. He hasn’t quite learned how to let you know when he needs to go outside yet, so his new family will need to keep him on a consistent routine. Mustard isn’t looking for a busy, action-packed life. He’s looking for a soft couch, a peaceful home, and someone who will love and spoil him through his golden years.
