Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Cosmo found himself unwanted and in a high kill shelter in South Texas. He is good with other dogs and people, and cats are unknown.  Cosmo will need a grooming appt as soon as he arrives. All dogs and puppies require supervision and training to be successful. He recently arrived in MN and we are getting to know him more. We will be updating his bio as we get to know him.  Here's what we know so far about him. He is great with all people, a total sweetheart. He has met many dogs and does well with all of them. He LOVES to play with dogs of all sizes. He tries so hard to play with the dog in the oven/window/fridge (aka his reflection) but they just won't return the interest and he cannot figure out why.  He enjoys car rides and snuggles. He kennels easily and keeps it clean. He has been good with his potty habits with a close eye. He is good on the leash with no major pulling most of the time. He gets excited when you come home. He does quiet in the kennel once he settles (he does protest, but a walk before kenneling helps keep him calmer).  Shared/thin walls would not be advised as he barks at noises when kenneled or alone even after he initally settles if he is the only dog in the home. He does better at staying quiet with other dogs around when no one is around.  He will follow you room to room, he is a curious pup.  He loves his squeaky toys and chasing toys around the home. He sleeps throgh the night, but is an early riser; sun's up, he's up that's his motto. He was a perfect gentleman for his groom too.  This easy going pup will be a great addition to a home with other dogs or with someone who is home most of the time.  First priority will go to someone who lives in the twin cities metro in order to bring to a vetting appointment mid July.  Please put in your application on our website mattysheartandsoulanimalrescue.rescuegroups.org.      Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.June 14, 2026, 1:26 pm

Story
Some dogs are able to recover from neglect or abuse faster than others…..if only they could tell us about those early years of their life. Cody is a 3.5 yr old. 13# male Shih Tzu/maltese former breeder dog that is still in the process of his recovery, and is hoping someone with patience and previous dog experience is able to take him and continue working with him. Another small, playful dog and a secure fenced yard are also requirements to help him be successful. Cody would not be suited to a family with children of any age because of his fears of new people, loud noises, and fast movements. He has been in his foster home for quite a while – he trusts his foster mom, and is relaxed and seeks attention from her, but transitioning into a new home could be like starting all over again. Let me tell you more about him. His foster mom is retired, and home with him most of the time. Cody prefers to approach her for cuddle time when she is sitting or laying down, instead of towering over him. He comes to her when she calls him inside the house, but doesn’t have recall when he is out in the yard, so he is either contained in a kennel area when out, or drags a long leash around in his fenced area so you can use that instead of grabbing at him when he’s out. If someone scares or forces him, or raises their voice, it takes quite a while for him to forgive you. He tolerates meeting new people, but is more fearful of men and might try to hide from them. His foster home has a doggie door that he has learned to use, but his new home might not; Cody is willing to go out into the cold for a short time, so you will need to establish a schedule that works for him, and have a potty pad down for emergencies. His meals are dry food soaked in water for 5 minutes – he can be reluctant to eat, and acts like he is watching for new people to approach. Cody is most comfortable around the resident dogs, and loves to run and play with them. The other dog/dogs in the home should be tolerant, playful, be good pack leaders and “show him the ropes”. Cody rides OK in the car, in a crate. In warmer weather, he has been taken on short walks – doesn’t understand the purpose of a walk when there is a perfectly wonderful fenced yard to run around in. Cody has a loud bark, so best suited to single-family home instead of a building that shares a wall with another family. Cody is neutered, and current on vaccinations. The heartworm test and tick profile are all negative. He requires grooming about every 3 months. If you have questions, or would like to adopt Cody, call 651-771-5662. His adoption fee is $300 .

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Reginald is an adorable Shih Tzu with a joyful spirit and a personality that makes everyone fall in love with him. He is one of those dogs who seems genuinely happy wherever life takes him—whether that’s a walk around the neighborhood, a car ride, a visit to the vet, or simply meeting new friends. Reginald loves people and greets visitors with enthusiasm, always ready to make a new friend. This sweet boy is playful, easy-going, and full of charm. He loves carrying toys around the house, enjoys going for walks, and is great with other dog-friendly dogs. He remains active, playful, and eager to join in on whatever adventure the day may bring. One of Reginald’s favorite things in the world is snuggling. He loves pressing his whole body against his person, tucking his head under your chin, and soaking up all the affection he can get. He’s the perfect combination of playful companion and cuddle buddy. Reginald does have a cataract in one eye, and another is beginning to form in the other. While we’re not entirely sure how much vision he has in his right eye, it certainly hasn’t slowed him down. His veterinarian believes he can still see light and some shapes, and he navigates his world with confidence and enthusiasm. Potential adopters should be aware that his vision may continue to change over time and may wish to discuss future treatment options with their veterinarian. Friendly, affectionate, and endlessly lovable, Reginald has been one of our easiest and favorite fosters. If you’re looking for a cheerful companion who loves adventures, toys, other dogs, and snuggling close at the end of the day, Reginald may be the perfect addition to your family.   Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.   ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. Story
A portion of my adoption fee has been sponsored by The Wilbur Fund. The adoption fee sponsorship credit of $100.00 will be applied during the contract process. Hi my name is Riggy Moe and I am from Minnesota! Riggy Moe is a Senior dog, she is very sweet and adorable!! She is full of personality and she is a social gal as she likes to make new friends. She does great with my other dogs as well. She also likes going for walks when the weather is nice. She is doing well with her housetraining and her crate training, I recently have let her run of my bedroom, kitchen and she has been doing well with that. She is used to sleeping on my bed with me as I have doggy stairs for her to use and she definitely let you know her place is on the bed, I affectionately call her my Sassy Princess! She is a wonderful companion dog who already has me wrapped around her little paw as I just adore her! From the Vet: Ms. Riggy Moe is a spunky senior gal ready to find her final forever home for her golden years. She has a history of keratoconjunctivitis sicca (dry eye) and requires lifelong medication to keep her eyes comfortable and healthy. Her adopter will need to maintain consistent treatment and establish care with their primary veterinarian for ongoing eye management and monitoring. She has undergone extensive dental care, including numerous tooth extractions, to ensure her mouth is now healthy and pain-free. Upon arrival, Riggy Moe was underweight. After reaching a healthy weight, she successfully underwent surgery to repair a luxated (dislocated) left hip. She has recovered well, but her adopter should monitor her joint health long-term and keep her at a healthy weight to support mobility and comfort.

Story
In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Poppy is an adorable, sweet and smart Shih Tzu puppy who is very petite. We’re expecting that she will be around 5 pounds as an adult. She was born March 20, 2026, so she’s still a very young puppy. She’s mini but mighty. She has a big personality in that little body. She should have been named Dora, as in Dora the Explorer. She’s figured out that if her head fits any gap, she looks for those gaps in any enclosure, and slip right through them. She’s going to need an active family that can keep her busy and challenged. Poppy loves to play when she’s not looking for holes in the perimeter. She’s very good at jumping and working her way up onto things and displays no fear of heights, constantly trying to make it to the top of the back of the sofa. She’s very gifted in getting into spots you would not expect. She’s very friendly and her foster family feels she would do well with other small pets or respectful older children. Poppy is a bit of a trip hazard as she’s very tiny and stays very close to your feet, so you have to constantly keep an eye out for her. She also loves to cuddle on the couch next to your face and gives lots of kisses! These are the requirements for Poppy’s new family: 1. Because Shih Tzus can live 16+ years, applications will only be accepted from age appropriate individuals who will be able to provide the care, activity and support for Poppy for her entire life. 2. A family with children over the age of ten who have demonstrated how to gently and appropriately interact and care for a small dog will be considered. 3. A secure fenced yard would be great, but Poppy needs close supervision because she’s so curious. When she’s older she’ll enjoy daily walks. 4. Poppy will shine with training. She loves to learn new things and catches on quickly. Training classes are important and are highly recommended for her to bond, socialize and learn good manners. 5. A family where someone is home much of the day and night to continue her housetraining. Little puppies need to initially be taken out at least every two hours. 6. Provide lots of opportunities to socialize. Poppy would like to be an integral part of her new family’s life and will need lots of new experiences and challenges to grow into a well adjusted pup. 7. Live within 30 miles of Shoreview, MN. 8. Agree to attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held in September each year. Poppy has had her first puppy DAPP vaccination and is microchipped. Her adopters must provide required vaccinations as she becomes a bit older. Because she is too young to be spayed, her adopters must agree to have her spayed within six months, and pay a spay deposit which will be refunded upon proof of her spay surgery. The adoption fee for Waffles is $520.00 plus $46.93 sales tax and the additional refundable spay deposit of $150.00, for a total fee of $716.93. To meet Poppy, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see her and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at Chuck & Don’s, 8537 Lyndale Avenue S., in Bloomington.
