Animal Profile: Luna is a now 3-year-old, 40 lb Cattle Dog mix who originally joined our rescue from Texas as a 9-week-old puppy (fka Dory) and was adopted by her foster family. Over three years later, she is coming back to rescue as her family is moving to Germany and cannot take her with them. Luna is super social and friendly with dogs of all sizes and is currently housed with cats (they're fun!) without any aggression. Luna has some noise phobias and will need some confidence building and exposure training, but is otherwise well behaved -- house and crate trained, knows basic obedience, and loves to run and play chase with other dogs. She plays very nicely.   Foster Update: 9-30-25  Luna is doing better and better! She can relax and enjoy quiet neighborhood walks and trail and park walks. She did great on our hikes! On busy city streets, she's still anxious (she pants) but will cooperate with the leash. She's good with dogs as long as we're all walking, but she may bark when we're staying still and other objects (dog, toddlers) approach us. She has minor resource guarding when she’s eating and another dog come close, but humans are no threat.  Luna loves me and my husband equally and knows sit, down, and not rushing through doors. She has 3-year-old dog playful energy but settles herself on her bed or in her crate without seeking attention all the time. On the other hand, she loves cuddling when invited to do so. She's done great on the many car rides we've take her on too. We've left her in her car crate while we've done errands and she just naps and wait. I think Luna could use a family who lives in a quieter area and has an outdoor lifestyle. Exercise in nature really helps her lower her stress level and do better at handling challenging, noisy environments when needed. She could be the solo dog or with another confident dog.  Earlier updates: Luna has truly transformed in foster care. While she can be a little nervous around loud noises, she looks to her person for guidance and is able to recover quickly from any startling sounds. Luna has learned to walk politely in a heel on leash, and with her excellent crate and car manners, she has been able to join her foster family on adventures including hiking, camping, and beach outings. She will be happiest in a home with another dog who can help show her the way, but she could also thrive as an only dog with an owner committed to continuing her current training. Luna knows several commands including crate, sit, stay, down, place, and heel. She is friendly when meeting new people and loves to play with other dogs. We have loved watching her blossom and open up since returning to rescue. Now she is ready for a family of her own! Animal Profile: Beethoven (hearing impaired like his namesake), or Thoven for short, is an estimated 3.5-year-old, 40 lb neutered male mixed breed -- possibly terrier aussie mix -- who was a stray intake to the Caddo Parish Shelter in Louisiana and was assessed to be friendly, social and outgoing with everyone. He has a coat made for the PNW! This boy was used for dog testing because he is neutral or friendly with everyone. We will share more info once we get to know him in foster care.   Foster Update: Beethoven can't hear but he is a top-level snuggle buddy and goofy boy who is house trained, crate trained, and friendly with other dogs. He's also done okay with cats. He'll do best with a dog buddy in his home. He is prone to anxiety without proper leadership, so an experienced dog owner who can provide training and help him be his best self is needed. I got Finn as a puppy and I do not know what exact breed he is. He is a sweet, gentle, even tempered dog. He loves going to the beach, hiking, and playing at the dog park. Finn loves children and even plays with toys more gentle with them. He never barks at other dogs and the only time he does bark is to alert me someone is coming to the door. But it never goes on more than a few warning barks and he will stop barking when I ask him to. He knows sit, lay down, roll over, play dead, high five, and shake. He is a very smart and intuitive dog. He likes treat puzzles. Finn does have separation anxiety. I am looking to rehome Finn as I no longer have the capability to give him what he needs and that is regular exercise, and not being left alone for long periods of time. Someone who works from home, or can bring Finn to work is the best candidate for adoption. Someone who has a yard or access to a dog park/field to play is a must.

FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME NEEDED Anybody LOVE to play fetch with their dog? Well then Bandit is your guy! He is a 4.5-year-old, 55lb Australian Cattle Dog mix who is looking for his forever home! He is a very happy, friendly, and intelligent boy who learns very quickly. He is also very energetic and playful and would spend ALL DAY playing fetch with his person if he could! Bandit knows some basic commands and would make a wonderful running partner and loyal companion. Bandit would love a home outside of the city with a fenced yard to run around and play. He will need to be an only dog where he can get all of the love and attention. Due to how jumpy he can be, we do recommend an adult only home and adopters with good dog handling skills. Bandit is neutered, microchipped and UTD on vaccinations. His adoption fee is $350.

LONG-TERM FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME NEEDED ❤️ RJ is a 6½-year-old mixed breed with a heart as big as his paws. With a unique blend of American Pit Bull Terrier, Australian Cattle Dog, Labrador Retriever, Boxer, and German Shepherd, RJ is a handsome, athletic, and intelligent companion who’s ready to find a home that truly understands him. Originally rescued from a Texas shelter at around 1½ years old, RJ made his way to Washington and spent six months with Forever Home Dog Rescue before being adopted in October 2021. His early life is a mystery, but it’s likely he spent time on the streets as a puppy. Despite his rough start, RJ has grown into a sweet, fiercely loyal dog who bonds deeply with his people. What RJ Loves: Exercise & Adventure: RJ thrives with daily activity—he’s a fantastic running and hiking partner and enjoys fetch and chase (though he might not always bring the ball back!). He has been on many backpacking trips and loves being outside. He does well on long walks with familiar people and dogs. Toys & Playtime: Balls, chew toys, and stuffed animals are his favorites, but he’s a toy destroyer if left unsupervised. Training & Mental Stimulation: Smart and eager to please, RJ enjoys learning commands and being rewarded for good behavior. Lounging & Comfort: After a good play session, RJ loves curling up on a cozy dog bed or couch and catching some serious Zzz’s. Affection: He’ll greet you with tail wags and kisses (he’s a big licker!) before settling down with a toy nearby. What RJ Needs: RJ is a special dog who needs a home that can meet his unique needs and provide structure, patience, and love. Home Environment: While he’s lived in an apartment, RJ does best in a house with space to roam and a fenced yard. No Dog Parks: RJ is not a dog park dog and has shown aggression toward male dogs, sometimes unpredictably. He prefers being the alpha and does best with female dogs his size or larger. No Cats or Small Animals: He has a strong prey drive and should not be placed in a home with cats or other small pets. No Young Children: RJ has growled at children who tried to pet him on walks and hasn’t lived with kids, so a child-free home is best. Supervised Toy Time with Other Dogs: Due to resource guarding (mostly over toys and chews), RJ should be in a home where toys aren’t left out and where there are no other resource guarders. Secure Fencing & Leash Use: RJ doesn’t have reliable recall and should never be off-leash unless in a secure area. He’s athletic and could potentially scale a low fence if tempted by a squirrel. Companionship: RJ has strong separation anxiety and does best with another dog in the home—ideally a calm, confident female- and/or a home with owners who work from home and are present regularly. He loves to be a member of the "pack". Car Rides & Crating: RJ is a great passenger and enjoys car rides! He is crate trained and is used to being put in his crate at night. The Ideal Home for RJ: RJ is looking for a committed, experienced dog owner who understands behavioral needs and is ready to give him the structure and love he deserves.    Animal Profile: Maui is a young male Aussie mix who needs good strong leadership and someone with the patience to help him become his best self. He is working on his confidence and leash manners and will need continued training and support. Maui is crate and house trained and currently lives with another dog in his foster home. He is smart and treat motivated, but is just a bit nervous about the world, but we are working on that! Ellie is a 4-year-old, 27-pound Mini Aussie who brings the perfect mix of brains, beauty, and festive flair. Think of her as your own personal holiday elf… if elves had herding instincts sharper than Santa’s sleigh runners. This clever girl is house and crate trained, rides like a champ in the car, and is always ready for a peppermint mocha run (don’t worry, she’ll stick to pup cups). She’s great with other dogs and absolutely adores her people — especially if they come bearing treats, belly rubs, or compliments about her fabulous coat. Speaking of that coat: Ellie will stand patiently for grooming like she’s at a Christmas spa day. A little brushing? A little pampering? A little “you’re so pretty, Ellie”? She is HERE for it. Now, a quick note about kids: Ellie takes holiday “peace and order” very seriously. Small children may find themselves gently herded back into formation — so she’s best suited for a home with adults or older kids who appreciate her commitment to organization.
