Story
FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME NEEDED: Meet Sundae! She is loyal, happy, has boundless energy, is incredibly smart and is alert and wary of strangers. This girl is a herding breed dog who would love a home outside of the city on acreage where she can have a job to do. She is not for the sedentary dog owner. She loves to walk the perimeter of her property and in typical herding dog fashion will redirect people and alert them once she's familiar with her boundaries. Due to her herding breed, she has an irresistible impulse to herd, anything: cars, dogs, kids, etc. so an adult only home would be best for her. Sundae bonds deeply with her person and can be protective of them. She will need to be in a home where there is strong leadership. She can be reactive or show guarding behavior in stressful situations that she feels are 'threatening' to her person. She can also redirect in these situations or when displaying her herding instincts. She will need a firm hand and strong supervision when there is a lot of stimulation. She has her challenges, but she is incredibly loving and loyal to her people. She is spayed, current on her shots and micro-chipped. Her adoption fee is $150.

FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME NEEDED: Meet Gigy! She is a 2-year-old, 45 lb Heeler/Shepherd mix who came to us as a stray from the streets of Mexico. Gigy is very shy and lacks confidence and will need a gentle and patient adopter to help her with this. She walks well on a leash sticking right by her person. She is gentle and takes treats gently. She is good with other dogs and would love another dog in the home to give her confidence. She is skittish with traffic and loud noises and can be a flight risk. We are looking for a stand-alone home with a securely fenced yard for her outside of the city for that reason. She is very in tune with her person and will make a loyal companion. Foster or Adopter Needed for Taylor! Taylor is a 2-year-old cattle dog mix who was adopted into a lovely family with another dog. Unfortunately, the first dog is making life hard for Taylor, and through no fault of his own, we need to find an alternate home for Taylor as soon as possible. Please help! Thanks to the efforts of his devoted owner, Taylor got the ultimate glow-up: he’s housetrained, crate-trained, graduated from obedience class and knows several commands. He’s well-behaved in the house with no destructive behavior. We could go on and on about this VERY good boy. But let’s take a detour and talk about how gorgeous Taylor is. He has deep whiskey-colored eyes, and amazing “angel wings”, these unique fluttering lower “lashes” which the vet has assured is 100% fine. He has both a merle and brindle coat which is beautiful and soft. “Sounds great,” you say, “But a herding breed? That sounds like they’ll need a running partner, and I’m no runner.” Not a problem! Despite being young, his exercise needs are modest, especially for a herding breed. He does love the great outdoors, so he’s looking for humans who take him on adventures – whether that’s a leisurely walk, exploring hiking trails, or letting him run free in open fields. No running required! Taylor's ideal home would be one where he can be either the only dog or alongside a non-dominant dog companion. His vibrant energy and not being *quite* aware of his body in space make him less suited to homes with small children. Indoors, Taylor is the picture of relaxation. He’s perfectly content to claim a spot on the sofa or snuggle up in bed, assuming he’s invited, of course. His crate is another favorite nap spot, providing him a cozy retreat. In addition, Taylor has three favorite things: 1) his beloved stuffies; 2) treat-filled toys such as a kong; and 3) food! Mealtimes are a spectacle of happiness for Taylor, as he leaps into the air with sheer delight, all four paws airborne. To say he loves his food is an understatement; it's a moment of pure bliss. But there’s a fourth favorite which is his most favorite of all: you. Taylor’s devotion to his humans is unparalleled; give him a little time to overcome his initial shyness, and soon enough, he’ll be snuggling up with you, happy and content. So come discover the joy of becoming Taylor's world. He has an abundance of love to share, just waiting for the right heart to give it to. Taylor is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped and neutered. His adoption fee is $400.

Animal Profile: Ames is an approximately 1-year-old, 40 lb neutered cattle dog mix that joined us from New Mexico on 12/4.  The shelter there says he is good with dogs and kids. Foster Update: Ames is a shy at first but incredibly loyal pup who loves to play tug and fetch when he’s not snoozing the day away. This handsome boy has a playful yet gentle demeanor and is good with other dogs – Ames must have a home with a balanced confident dog sibling to help show him that the world isn’t scary. Ames would benefit from a confident adopter who knows how to help him build his confidence -- coddling his insecurities will only amplify them, so he needs firm upbeat leadership. As soon as he gets comfortable, his friendliness and curiosity know no bounds. Ames is food motivated and a fast learner, picking up on commands like sit, lie down, touch, spin, and shake. He’s a Velcro dog filled with endless love for his chosen humans and is ready to share that love with his new family. Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $550 which includes spay/neuter, core vaccinations per AVMA standards, heartworm test if applicable, microchip with registration, and health certificate. Your adoption fee may be tax deductible as DGS is a 501c3 organization. Story
Animal Profile: Raven is a female Cattle Dog/Great Pyrenees mix (best guess), estimated to be 10 months old and currently weighing 50lbs. She and her 3 siblings were surrendered to Freer Animal Shelter and were then taken in by our rescue partner in Texas. Raven is shy until she gets to know you, then is a total sweetheart. Foster Update:  Miss Raven is shy, but very sweet. She has excellent crate manners and is potty trained having no accidents in her current foster home. Raven looks to the resident dogs (a Doberman and a Chihuahua) for guidance in every day life. She walks well on a leash, and does not have any desire to approach new people or other dogs on walks. Raven is food motivated, and her foster mom is currently working on confidence building through leash training, exposure and patience. Raven took a few days to start to settle in and approach her foster mom for affection but now comes running for full body rubs. She does startle easily, and would do best in a home without young children though she is very tolerant of the resident 4 year old in the home. Raven will need a patient, understanding adopter that is committed to helping her live her best life. She needs a companion dog (or two or three) in her adoptive home. She does need a securely fenced yard, and her ideal adopter would have shy dog experience. Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $550 which includes spay/neuter, core vaccinations per AVMA standards, heartworm test if applicable, microchip with registration, and health certificate. Your adoption fee may be tax deductible as DGS is a 501c3 organization. Story
FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME NEEDED: Say hello to Lincoln! He is a very high energy, active and sweet 2-year-old, 40 lb Australian Shepherd. He is a happy boy and loves to get attention from his people! He will do great with a family that understands herding dogs and their needs. He can be strong willed and is still working on basic obedience and will need a family that will continue his training. He is working on not jumping up and mouthing right now so he needs an adult only home or a home with kids over 14. He is super sweet, but he has a lot of happy and unfocused energy. He is very smart and will thrive with training. He would love to be in a home in a suburban or rural neighborhood with a securely fenced yard for him to run and play. He will do best in a home where someone is home much of the time. He likes other dogs but can play very rough with them and would rather spend time with his humans so for that reason we are looking for a home for him as an only dog or with another dog who is able to handle his rough play. He will need an adopter that will keep him physically and mentally active and would make a great jogging or adventure buddy. He is up to date on all of his vaccinations, microchipped and neutered. His adoption fee is $450.

Story
IMMEDIATE FOSTER NEEDED: Meet Fury! He is a 9-year-old, 55 lb Blue Merle AKC registered Australian Shepherd who was surrendered to us as his owner could no longer care for him. Fury loves to be petted, pampered and groomed. He likes playing by himself with soccer balls and plushie toys, tossing and chasing them around. He also loves to lounge in the sunshine! Fury would like to find himself his very own retirement home where he can be an only dog with his own securely fenced yard to relax in during the day, and a cozy kennel at night. He would do best in a home where he can be the only pet, soaking up all the love and attention. He walks well on a leash for the most part but can be leash reactive and he does not care for other male dogs or dogs who get in his face on leash. He would do best in a quiet suburban or rural neighborhood. Fury has been gentle with the young child in his previous home under supervision but in typical herding fashion nips at anyone who runs next to him, so it is recommended that he goes to an adult only home or with children over 12. Fury has recently had a dental and is up to date on vaccinations, microchipped and neutered. As a senior boy, he deserves more than spending his golden years in a commercial kennel and we are looking for a foster family who want to love him and care for him for the rest of his life.

Story
FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME NEEDED: Introducing Jager! He is an adorable 1-year-old, 31lb Australian Shepherd/Cattle Dog mix who came to us from an overcrowded shelter in CA. Jager is a ball of energetic love and incredibly smart. He will need continued structure and training but is treat motivated and a quick study which helps with training. He would do best in a young, active household that would take him on daily walks, runs, hikes, and adventures. He is very smart and learns quickly. Jager will need to continue to work on basic obedience and leash work. He is housetrained, crate trained and loves to go for car rides. He loves playing with other dogs and would love to have another playful dog in the home. He can be very bouncy and still has some puppy nibbles, so we recommend no small children or dog savvy children. When he’s not chewing his toys or running around, he likes to relax curled up right next to you or his dog buddies. This fluffy, outgoing, and spunky guy will make a fun addition to any lucky household that adopts him! Jager is UTD on vaccinations, microchipped and neutered. His adoption fee is $500.
