Story
I am at Oakland Animal Services in kennel Dog H:11Nathan- the 1-year old Black Border Collie, who is a Sweet and Gentle Soul feeling a bit overwhelmed by the shelter environment. Timid at First: Nathan is understandably timid and overwhelmed in the shelter setting. Warming Up and Seeking Comfort: Once outdoors, he still shows some tentativeness but begins to relax. Nathan starts comes closer for some comforting pets if you sit down and give him some space and time to feel secure and comfortable. Exploring the Yard: Nathan likes to explore when he is off-leash in the yard, often looking far out in the distance, indicating his curiosity and desire to understand his surroundings. Social and Plays Politely: At the playgroup, Nathan is gentle and plays politely with the other dogs. Nathan will thrive in a home as a solo dog or with another social dog. Nathan is a tender-hearted dog looking for a loving home where he can slowly build his confidence and find joy. If you have a quiet and understanding household, Nathan could be your perfect, gentle companion.July 26, 2024, 5:31 pm

Story
I am at Oakland Animal Services in kennel Dog H:6Meet Prescott, a charming 1-year-old mixed breed dog who's ready to find his forever home! About Prescott: - Gentle and Independent: Prescott is a sweet, shy boy who loves to explore his surroundings and enjoys gentle pets. - Leash Pro: He walks beautifully on a leash, making your outings together a breeze. - Treat Lover: Prescott is very treat-motivated, which will help with his training and building his confidence. - Dog Friendly: He does well with other dogs in playgroups, enjoying their company without being too assertive. Prescott came to us as a stray and is still adjusting to his new environment. He’s a bit undersocialized and can be flinchy with sudden movements, but he’s trying hard to connect and loves gentle handling. Prescott would do best with adopters who understand his sensitive nature and can offer positive reinforcement training. Older children with dog experience might be a good fit for him. Come meet Prescott and discover the loyal and loving companion you've been searching for! July 26, 2024, 5:31 pm

Story
I am at Oakland Animal Services in kennel Dog J:5Hi there! My name is Oatmeal, the friendly and playful Border Collie puppy looking for my forever home. I have two different colored eyes that make me look extra adorable, and my head tilts are guaranteed to melt your heart. I absolutely love attention from strangers—I’m curious, waggy, and always excited to meet new people, but don’t worry, I never jump up. I know a bunch of tricks and cues like sit, come, stop, off, down, drop it, and I even wait for the OK before eating. I’m great on a leash and enjoy long, relaxing walks. My favorite activities include sleeping all day, playing with toys like tugs, ropes, and squeaky toys, and engaging in training activities like obedience or sports training. I love getting brushed and playing chase or zoomies in the house. I can entertain myself with toys and sometimes my favorite person's slippers, but I never chew on things I shouldn’t. Oh, and I also love to sunbathe! I do have a few small quirks—I can be a bit silly, often rolling on my back, and I’m a slow runner who moans and groans like a person in the early mornings. I might whine in my crate for a few minutes, but I settle down quickly. My ideal home would be one where belly rubs are abundant because I adore them! If you’re looking for a loyal, entertaining, and loving companion, look no further. I’m your perfect match! Adopt me, and let’s create wonderful memories together.July 26, 2024, 5:31 pm

Story
Mercury is a sweet, goofy boy who loves long walks, tennis balls, belly rubs, and FOOD! We love him and are heartbroken to have to make the choice to rehome him. Unfortunately due to a separation and some extenuating health circumstances, we are not able to provide the level of care that he requires. He should be in a home with more human presence where he’s not alone all day, or at least has access to some outdoor space. He can be a little bit of an anxious guy, but he’s always been sweet and playful with humans (including children.) He is hit or miss with other dogs. He’s been living with another (small, female) dog for the last 5 years or so and they always got along. Meeting dogs on leash is usually fine but off-leash requires him to know the dog first. He deserves the BEST home and we want him to be somewhere where he can be actively loved and cared for.

Story
Rocco is a 7 years old healthy, happy and strong dog. He's 50 lbs mixed breed, very fit, all vaccines up to date. We adopted him in 2017 from a shelter in Santa Cruz when he was a puppy. Now, after we got our second kid we are a bit overwhelmed and Rocco does not get the attention he was used to. This makes him and us unhappy. We are therefore looking for a person or family willing to adopt him. He's very friendly with people, not with other dogs, so he should be the only pet in the house. The ideal adopter should be someone who has already experience owning other dogs before. Rocco can stay at home alone the whole day, or in the car waiting for you doing grocery without any issue. He follows a few basic cues/prompts; he loves to travel by car; VERY food motivated, he loves cuddles, fetching balls and playing tug of war. He gets very affectionate with the owner and the whole family. We are not asking for money, we'd like to find the right fit for him. Let us know if you are interested.

Story
Hua Juan is ready to find her forever home! She's appx 1.5yrs old, weights about 28lbs, medium size! She has beatiful interesting markings throughout her coat. She's a sweet pup but still a bit timid to start. She has made great progress and plays well with other dogs. She walks pretty well on leash but loud/sudden noises do spook her still. She will need more time to build up the confidence. She would do well with another dog at home to help her learn quickly and adjusts quicker. She is healthy, spayed, microchipped and vaccinated.
