Story
Meet Penelope (aka Penny)   At just 3 years old, Penelope — lovingly called Penny — is in the prime of her life and ready to find the person she can devote herself to completely. She’s what we lovingly call a “one-person dog.” When she bonds, she bonds deeply — and that loyalty runs strong.   Because of that deep attachment, Penny will do best in a calm, consistent home without a lot of people coming and going. In busy or unpredictable environments, she can start to feel protective of her person. She isn’t looking for chaos — she’s looking for stability, routine, and someone she can feel safe with.   Penny absolutely loves her people and is affectionate, intelligent, and eager to please. She is housebroken, crate trained, leash trained, and does wonderfully staying home alone during the day. She sleeps quietly in her crate at night, rides well in the car, and is very responsive to direction. She thrives when she knows what’s expected of her.   With children, Penny is friendly but can be enthusiastic and a bit pushy due to her size, so a home with older, respectful kids or adults only would be the best fit.   When it comes to other dogs, Penny needs slow, thoughtful introductions before being considered friends. She does not appreciate pushy or overly assertive dogs in her space. With proper boundaries and respectful energy, she can coexist — but she may also truly shine as the only dog in the home where she doesn’t feel the need to manage her surroundings.   The good stuff: Spayed & up to date on vet care House & crate trained Deeply loyal and affectionate Smart and obedient Thrives with routine and clear structure   Penny’s current family cares about her deeply and is willing to foster her while we search for the right match. We are committed to finding her a home where she can feel secure and understood.   She won’t be the right fit for every household — but for the person looking for a devoted, steady companion, Penny will be an incredible best friend.   Apply to adopt Penelope here: https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=1707539&name=Penelope+ ##1707539##

Story
Fluffnugget Male | ~10 months old | 28 lbs   Fluffnugget is one of our younger pups and is still very much a work-in-progress. He came from a rough start and we believe he may be inbred, which has contributed to his challenges with handling and confidence.   At this time, Fluffnugget does not enjoy being handled and will need a significant amount of patient, consistent socialization. Picking him up was a wrestling match, and he made it very clear that hands-on interaction is currently stressful for him. Because of this, a no-kids home is a must.   With other dogs, Fluffnugget will likely do okay, though he can be a bit bossy with his littermates — something we often see in young pups who haven’t yet learned appropriate social skills. A calm, confident dog in the home may help guide him, but slow introductions will be important.   Fluffnugget is not a beginner dog. He needs an experienced, understanding adopter who is willing to give him the time, structure, and space he needs to build trust at his own pace. With the right environment and a lot of patience, this little guy has the potential to grow — but he will require commitment and realistic expectations.   If you’re someone who believes in the underdogs and understands that progress doesn’t happen overnight, Fluffnugget may be the challenge you’re ready for. ##2629282##

Story
What a cuddle bug!  Panda is the sweetest little girl! We do believe that she is a border collie mix. She was found alone on the reservation, crawling toward the road and was rescued in that moment thank goodness! Panda will find the nook in your neck, lick you all over with her puppy breath and fall fast asleep. She is the most adorable baby ever! Once Panda is 8 weeks old and has been fully vetted she will be available to adopt. ##2654849##

Story
Mercury Update!!!  Huge thank you to the Hechts for their incredible knowledge with less social pups and the patience they have in working with this sweet soul. He is currently being fostered with them, fingers crossed he may stay furever but even if he does move on to an adopter, he will have had a wonderful base laid for him by this incredible family. He is still very, very shy, but is showing a strong attachment to me. He will hide away in one of his two "safe spots" for much of the day, but will come sit under my feet at my desk, or snuggle up to me in bed- when I am there. He is 31 pounds! Truly a precious and special pup! Pictures: https://photos.app.goo.gl/8oDSRXQWPqmLqzUb7 Personality & TemperamentThis sweet boy has an exceptionally kind and gentle heart, but he is currently very, very shy. He is still learning what it means to live in a home and to trust the world around him. He will happily accept affection once he feels safe, but sudden movements or fast approaches can startle him, causing him to scurry away. With time, patience, and a calm environment, his affectionate nature continues to shine through more each day. Socialization & ConfidenceHe is still extremely under-socialized and will need an adopter who understands fearful or shutdown dogs and is willing to move at his pace. He prefers quiet spaces and often chooses a cool tile floor where he can relax and observe. This is where he spends most of his day. While he hasn’t found his voice yet (we have not heard him bark), we suspect that as a Pyrenees mix, it may emerge once he feels fully safe and confident. Other DogsHe gets along very well with other dogs and is submissive and gentle in his interactions. He would do best with a calm, confident canine companion who is not overly dominant or pushy, as he can be easily intimidated. He has shown no signs of resource guarding and coexists peacefully with our family dog. Training & Daily Life     Not yet house trained, but he will potty outside when taken out regularly     Still learning to wear a collar and is making slow, steady progress     Has not yet been successful on walks and has never truly been walked before — we are giving him time and do not want to push this too quickly     Does not enjoy the crate at this time; we are working gently on helping him feel more comfortable with it     Eats very well and is motivated by routine, though he is not food-motivated for training     Currently underweight and recovering from prior malnourishment Safety NeedsBecause he does not yet have recall and is easily startled, he will need a securely fenced yard. He should not be expected to safely navigate unfenced areas or busy environments at this stage. Ideal HomeHis ideal adopter will be:     Patient, calm, and experienced with shy or fearful dogs     Willing to let him decompress and adjust on his own timeline- this may take months     Able to provide a quiet, predictable environment     Open to slow, confidence-building progress rather than quick milestones Bottom LineThis is a dog who has clearly not seen much of the world yet — but underneath the fear is a deeply sweet, gentle soul. With time, consistency, and love, he has the potential to become an incredibly devoted companion. He will thrive in a home that sees who he is today and who he can become. ##2634591##

Story
MEET LARRY AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION   Great Pyrenees | Part of the 90-Dog New Mexico Hoarding Case   Larry is a survivor of the 90-dog hoarding case in New Mexico, and he carries the deepest emotional scars. Larry is not aggressive — he is fearful and very shut down.   He will require an exceptionally patient, experienced home that understands non social to people kind of dogs. Larry is still learning that humans can be safe, and his progress happens slowly — in inches, not yards.   This is not a dog for someone looking for quick affection. Larry needs a quiet, low-pressure home where he is allowed to move at his own pace, with no expectations placed on him beyond safety and consistency.   Larry needs: Very experienced adopter Quiet, low-stress environment Secure fencing Time — lots of it   Not for first-time dog owners Not suitable for busy or high-traffic homes Not a livestock guardian dog   Available for adoption, foster-to-adopt, or rescue transfer Apply at www.denkaisanctuary.org/adopt Questions? 970-217-1457 ##2629264##
