Story
Astrid is the sweetest little thing! This precious girl came to us from a local animal control. She had been found as a stray in absolutely awful condition. One of the worst cases of matting we've ever seen, she was an absolute angel for grooming, even though it must have been uncomfortable. She was so happy to have all those mats and knots gone! She immediately started running about and playing with toys! Astrid loves everyone, from toddlers to adults to other animals. She LOVES being held and she'd be fine if her 4 paws never touched the ground, lol. She has the sweetest disposition and is truly an angel. She had some bad teeth, we've gotten her a dental cleaning and had 2 teeth removed. She's been fully vaccinated, spayed, and microchipped. She tested positive for Lyme disease, but is asymptomatic. She's being treated with antibiotics and we expect her to be right as rain! Being an all white dog with blue eyes, she is partially deaf and seems to have some issues with depth perception, which we would expect with that genetic combination. It does not slow her down at ALL. She is a happy go lucky princess! She does not go outside on her own, we have not gotten her to the point where she lets us know she needs to go outside. Her foster mom walks her outside and sets her in the grass and she happily goes potty outside, but you do need to be proactive and take her out. She is soft as a cloud and affectionate as can be. Astrid's adoption fee is $250. Our best estimate as that she is 6-8 years old. You can see her before photo and she's unrecognizable after grooming! The video was taken at the groomer's salon fresh after her haircut, and you can see just how happy and joyful she was to be free of all that mess!

Story
Amazing Grace! This sweetie was at a very overcrowded shelter, heartworm positive, and had limited time left. Thankfully, a volunteer stepped up to foster her and we couldn't be happier! This girl is the bees' knees! She is just such a lovebug. Grace is a consummate cuddler, loves everyone, and has a wonderful disposition. She is fostered with cats and is fine with them. It needs to be noted that Grace does resource guard food with other animals. This is not at all surprising, given that she was so skinny and underweight when she came to us. She is very food motivated, which is wonderful for training purposes, but does need to be fed separately from other pets. She loves to play with toys, she loves to snuggle up for a good movie, and she is overall just an angel. She has completed very painful heartworm treatment and we are glad that is behind her. She will need to be retested in 6 months time to be certain the treatment worked (we will cover that test). Amazing Grace is just a gorgeous and very lovable girl. Her adoption fee is $250.

Story
The good, the bad, and the ugly. We always believe in honesty about our adoptables. Benny is good 93.7% of the time. Ben rears his bad and ugly head about 6.3% of the time. He has made such improvements, and we anticipate he will continue to improve. Until then, here he is in all his glory....From his foster family: "Are you looking for a little variety in your life? Have you been BEGGING your significant other to adopt TWO dogs but they are only in agreement to adopt one? Well have we got the dog for you! Meet Ben and Benny. (Kind of like Jekyll and Hyde) Benny is an amazing 8 year old terrier mix of goofy love and ball playing. He is an excellent time keeper and will help keep your day on schedule with reminders at 8am and 5p that it is meal time. Once you earn his trust you can hold Benny like a baby, he will sleep on your chest and nuzzle under your chin for snuggles galore. Benny is house trained and crate trained. Benny loves to hang out with his doggie friends and is cat friendly. He's obsessed with balls and he is NOT a night owl. He likes to put himself to bed sometime between 8:00 and 9:00pm, after that he gets cranky, like a Gremlin. Now let’s meet Benny’s other half, Ben….. ya see Ben came to us as a stray so we aren’t sure of his history. We are assuming someone or something caused a bit of trauma for Ben. Why do we say this? Well, let’s just put it this way… Ben can be a bit of an asshole. Now it's likely not his fault, but as it’s happening, you won’t be thinking “poor Ben”. You’re going to be thinking, “what an asshole!” But the moment passes quickly once you learn Ben’s little triggers and how to handle them (without getting murdered) and he will reveal Benny once again. I didn’t think it would be possible but over time we have now come to love and adore both Ben and Benny and appreciate each of them for who they are. We even have a good laugh at how psychotic "the Ben teeth" ? look when on full display. It’s quite the look. ? Someone, somewhere is out there, that is also going to find the same appreciation for this guy and be willing to work with his split personality and give him the life he deserves. Hopefully over time he will overcome whatever he has lived through and slowly Ben will shrink away forever, and Benny will be able to shine always. He has already made so much progress with love and patience." We've had Benny neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, etc. His adoption fee is $150. Because he has him moments of crankiness, we would not recommend him for a home that his little humans in it, as they may not understand when to give Benny his personal space. He does live with a dog savvy teenager without issue.

Story
Buddy is a good boy! He is a mutt through and through, with a DNA test showing he is a mix of several different breeds. He's just under 50 lbs. Buddy was born to our rescue on 07/04/2020 and adopted out as a puppy. He was recently returned and it broke his heart. Buddy was adopted out to a home with other dogs and after a few years started not getting along with them so well. His dad's schedule changed and he was not home so much anymore, and Buddy just lost his way in the pack. When we were contacted about him being returned, in an effort to keep him in the only home he'd known for years, we sent a trainer to work with his family. Our trainer immediately knew Buddy wasn't dog aggressive, he simply lacked confidence and didn't know his place in the pack. We hoped the family would continue with training, but he was returned to us. It took him about 2 weeks to start coming out of his funk, he was shut down and depressed initially. Buddy is not even close to being a difficult dog. He would absolutely benefit from taking a class to boost his confidence (which we will pay for with an approved adoption). People don't realize how much dogs need leadership and structure! That's all this sweet boy needs. He's housebroken, knows basic commands, he's not destructive and he's fine being left alone, he enjoys playing with toys, overall he's pretty unassuming and what we would consider a low maintenance dog! He's neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, etc. His adoption fee is $250.

Story
Meet Finley, the Halfsky! He's half a husky, literally! While we are sure he must be mixed with something, he looks like a full-sized husky was shrunk down in a dryer. He's the cutest peanut weighing 27 lbs and he's full grown! Finley is about 2 years old. He was running around the streets of Whiting before a good Samaritan stopped to get him out of the road. Here's what we know about Finley - he's a pretty happy-go-luck guy! He LOVES kids, he loves to play, he has loved every dog we've introduced him to, he loves cats, and he;s even good with the ferrets in his foster home. We've had him neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Finley does have a quirk, he's got a neurologic tick that means he pretty much turns to the right all the time. He circles to the right, it's just his thing! He did test positive for Lyme disease (which he's been treated for). We've had him to the vet several times. We have done bloodwork and tests and multiple exams. There is nothing apparently wrong with him. It's possible he was perhaps hit by a car at some point and had a head injury, the Lyme could have played a part, we will never know his history. What we DO know is that it does not affect him AT ALL! He loves to run and play and get belly rubs, he has no idea he's a little lopsided :) He is housebroken and per his foster family, just a perfect little nugget of a guy! Fin's adoption fee is $250.

Story
Poor Bam Bam. She was adopted in August of 23 from an animal control (she was 10 months old at the time). Shortly thereafter, her adopter took her to a local boarding facility for a week....and never came back. She sat in a kennel for months and her owner was never able to be tracked down. Bam Bam has joined us now and we are happy to have her, as she is the sweetest little doll ever. She is JUST a hair under 40 pounds, she is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, etc. Bam Bam is absolutely a precious girl. She LOVES people and just wants to snuggle and play. We do know she is NOT good with cats, and while we have not introduced her to other dogs yet, she has seemed excited when she's seen them. She's about a year and 3 months now, we are working on housetraining (you can't blame her, she's spent most of her life in a kennel of some sort or another). We do know she loves kisses and cuddles and has a very loving personality.
