Story
Dog selective. Belle is in need of a new foster home as a member of the house has become very ill. Belle does not chew on shoes though she does like to carry them around when she gets excited. Belle was born in our care on April 1st 2017 to Momma Orla. She and her siblings were named after Beauty and the Beast characters. She and her 'sister' didn't get along so the family felt she would be better with a new family. She did great with her two Chihuahua siblings, and may do well with a male dog. She loves to give kisses and plays hard on toys. One of her favorite past times is to bird watch. Cats and kids are unknown at this time. She is currently in boarding and we need her out!Thank you for your interest in adopting a pet from Guardians of the Green Mile Inc. We are a group of individuals that have come together to save the lives of animals that are in danger of being euthanized. We raise funds to fully vet the animals and to provide them with a stable home until they are adopted. All of the dogs in our Rescue are in Foster homes while they are looking for their forever family. The only time we put a dog in boarding is for a Foster to go on vacation if another Foster is not able to care for them. We appreciate your taking the time to fill out the application to adopt one of our Guardians of the Green Mile pets. The questions that we ask are to only find the right fit for all of our dogs and the families that will be adopting them. Adoption donation is $300.00 for dogs over 1 year old and $350 with a $50.00 spay / neuter deposit for puppies/dogs under 1 year old. Story
Meet Jesse! He was rescued well over a year ago. His foster has been working with him to be his best self and he is finally ready! He was so shut down and scared due to a life of abuse and neglect. Thanks to his amazing foster, he has come out of his shell and learned to love again! He loves people and being held. He does not love stairs! They are still very scary for him. He is around 5-6 years old. If you can open your home and heart to sweet Jesse, please fill out an application! https://www.jotform.us/form/43196636952162Thank you for your interest in adopting a pet from Guardians of the Green Mile Inc. Story
Rayna is a diamond in the ruff. She will need a special owner/family that can work with her fears and quirks. We suspect she was a non-socialized puppy, or possibly abused as she can be fearful and skittish. She was found as a stray, at about five months old, in Illinois. Once you get her trust, she is loving, cuddly and eager to please. Rayna is an extreme jumper... we call her Tigger because she can almost jump to top of a five foot chain link fence so is 6 ft fence would be best. She loves to play ball and can entertain herself with a large one! She is great with other dogs, but has a tendency to vocalize some discomfort when she is chilling and they walk by or come into her space. She has never bitten or been aggressive with the other dogs. Overall, she plays great with dogs that'll play with her and she respects dogs that aren't interested. She does well with cats, except on occasion she will paw at them to attempt to PLAY. But our alpha cat swats her, and she leaves home alone. Our submissive laid back kitty tolerates the playfulness at times, but we are able to correct Rayna with a, 'no kitty,' and she backs off. Rayna is a solid girl, petite in stature but very strong and healthy. Don't let her size fool you... she has power in her little body. She loves to cuddle on the couch with humans she trusts. She might be more timid around men and can be a bit barky at times. Rayna is available through Guardians of the Green Mile (www.gotgm.org) of Portage, IN. Story
Hazel came in very timid and afraid of everything. She didn't know what toys were or what to do with them. She didn't seem to know how to act in a house, and seemed she'd never been in one. She has really come out of her shell and loves affection. She's very eager to please and do well. She sits like a champ and is really doing well at learning to not jump. She's mostly potty trained, but does occasionally have an accident in her crate over night. She's still quite hyper and needs room to run. In time, she'll get better at sitting still and cuddling; she's just too busy playing at the moment. She loves playing with other dogs with a proper introduction. She hangs around 2 big dogs and 3 cats in her foster home. She would do best in a home with another cat or dog. She has come to know what toys are and doesn't like to give them up, so "give" is still a work in progress. Hazel is a real sweetheart and good with men/women/kids once they aren't strangers to her. Hazel is available through Guardians of the Green Mile (www.gotgm.org) of Portage, IN. Story
(Prefers women. Guy shy.) We have the very best girl here looking for the perfect home for HER! Rather than people checking her out, we are putting her up for adoption with the interview more focused on the people than on her. See, Gigi is a very sweet, happy, curious pup who loves to play, run and sniff! However, she has a very low self esteem, can be very timid, scared and super shy. She is slow start, but a patient pup parent/family will bring her confidently out of her shell and will soon see all of her goofiness and love! Trust me, it’s worth the patience! Gigi is just over 50 lbs and is approximately 2 years old. She is housebroken, crate trained, spayed, HW-, fully vetted and ready to go!! This girl loves to play with other dogs her size, but she can be too aggressive with smaller dogs and cats are an absolute no as she enjoys chasing them way too much. She also enjoys “hunting” squirrels and birds in the back yard. A fenced yard will be the best for her as she loves to explore on her own. Meet and greets with Gigi will be not at all indicative of the actual dog who is buried under her fear and uncertainty. She comes alive with time, calm, giving Gigi her space and letting her build her confidence within the setting. Like many other shy dogs, forcing her into situations without giving her short breaks away from the excitement can make her shyness worse. She needs pet parents that can slowly build her confidence by gently introducing her into new environments, new sounds, new experiences. She also seems to be very uncertain around some men, so a slow introduction with the man completely ignoring her is the best way to quickly grow that relationship. Let her come to him in her time and they will soon be best friends! Gigi is a special girl with specific needs, but we know that family/person is out there! Can you provide Gigi the very best home for her? Thank you for your interest in adopting a pet from Guardians of the Green Mile Inc. Story
Mac was rescued from a neglectful situation. He has come a long way in foster care. He takes a minute to warm up to new people, but once he does, he is an absolute gem. He is a resilient pup who is happy playing or just snuggling. He enjoys fetch but doesn't always bring it back. Lol. His previous living situation made him fearful and nervous. He is getting more outgoing every day. Mac would appreciate a more quiet setting. Loud noises can still stress him out. He would do best with older kids. He loves his foster brothers and would probably love a playmate. He is potty and crate trained, although he prefers to be out and with his human. He is not a destructive boy and minds his manners. He loves a comfy dog bed or couch for chilling out.Thank you for your interest in adopting a pet from Guardians of the Green Mile Inc.
