Story
FOSTERED IN: Elgin, IL 60124 ESTIMATED DOB: 2013 WEIGHT: 70 lbs KIDS: 14+ DOGS: Yes CATS: Unknown HISTORY: Beau was found as a stray in rural NE Louisiana. When he was found, he had ear infections, was underweight, heartworm positive, and had an old eye injury leaving him blind in one eye. Beau has been successfully treated and is heartworm free! ABOUT: Beau’s foster home describes him as inquisitive, goofy, loving, and patient. Beau is perfectly house trained, and is a pretty quiet guy - no over the top hound barking for this guy. Beau is comfortable being crated, but typically has free roam at his foster home. Beau loves attention and has become quite the snuggler and will never pass up an opportunity to snuggle with someone in bed. He loves all strangers and thinks everyone he meets should stop to give him a few scratches. The vet said he is one of their best patients as he is very sweet and easy to handle. Beau would make an excellent buddy and companion for someone. Beau is a medium energy level, but he might enjoy going for casual, meandering walks in quiet areas. He also enjoys some time to play with the other dogs in the yard, but mostly he prefers to nap and snuggle. Beau has done wonderfully with the other dogs in his foster home who have ranged from medium to large in size. He has done great with numerous foster dogs coming in and out, but his foster is always sure to give him proper introductions. Beau is very food motivated which makes any training or behavior modification super easy. He takes all his treats in extra-gentle-super-slo-mo so no one has to worry about nibbled fingers. Despite being very food motivated, Beau does not bother people when they are eating. He might watch hopefully from a distance, because it never hurts to hope. Suburban/Rural: Beau was previously adopted by a family who lived in the city. They had to reluctantly surrender him shortly after adopting when it was obvious he could not tolerate the commotion of city life. Beau will do best in a suburban or rural setting. Kids: Like most of us, Beau prefers to eat food and chews without being disturbed, so he should only be adopted to homes with children 14+. He does excellent with everyone including strangers, so visiting children will not be a problem as long as food and chews are controlled. Fence/Yard: A fenced yard will be required for Beau. Additionally, he can be easily distracted and hyper fixated on things, so he will do best with a fence that cannot be seen through. Fences that are see-through could be considered in more rural/less populated areas if we don’t feel that fixation will be a concern. Beau has used objects to climb a fence in the past so he can’t ever be left outside unattended. Anxiety: Beau has experienced some mild separation anxiety so he takes Trazodone, which costs about $30 per month. This medicine gives him the opportunity to not need to be crated when his foster family is gone. An alternative would be to crate him when no one is home. Allergies: Beau experiences seasonal allergies so he receives Cytopoint injections every 6-8 weeks in the non-freezing months which cost about $150. Beau is a very easy going guy who makes few demands during his daily life. If you think this loving, calm boy will be a good fit for your family you can find our adoption application on our website: www.luluslockerrescue.org Beau is always looking for a way out: https://youtu.be/jk6VkuFIdyc Beau in the yard with the resident dogs 1: https://youtu.be/zeJypMohPQY Beau in the yard with the resident dogs 2: https://youtu.be/GvofakZaM6E Beau in the yard with the resident dogs 3: https://youtu.be/jjT8VV9v3oU Beau enjoys peanut butter...with hidden pills: https://youtu.be/j_wmM_Ikn5A Beau meets the robovac for the first time: https://youtu.be/LL2LQtt5ppo Beau plays in the snow with the resident dogs #1: https://youtu.be/2X4DO5pJdo0 Beau plays in the snow with the resident dogs #2: https://youtu.be/Evq9p_03QhI Beau plays in the snow with the resident dogs #3: https://youtu.be/E4Juxx0J2cc Happy Beau likes to be outside: https://youtu.be/x27LlPofSpk

Story
FOSTERED IN: Oak Forest, IL 60452 ESTIMATED DOB: 2017 WEIGHT: 8 lbs KIDS: Visitors Only DOGS: Yes, Calm Only CATS: Unknown HISTORY: Pickles came to us from an Animal Control Facility. ABOUT: Pickles is a special little girl who will need a very special adopter who is willing to manage her heart condition. (See more below) Pickles is such a sweet little girl. She can be a little apprehensive of new people at first but after a few moments she wants everyone to give her love and attention. Pickles has a special affinity for men! Pickles will bring love and joy to any home that adopts her. Pickles is housetrained, does well in the car, and walks well on leash. She is generally very quiet and only barks at normal dog things like the doorbell or an unusual/loud noise. She is crated in her foster home and does very well. She actually spent most of her time in her crate the first few days, so she does appreciate having a safe place to call her own. Her foster home said she is such a good, easy dog. Her foster said it is hard to remember she is sick because she is so happy and full of life. Pickles does well with other dogs, but can only be placed with calm dogs who will not encourage excessive activity from her. We also think Pickles will be best served in a calm, adult-only home due to her medical needs and restrictions. She will likely be fine with gentle child visitors. Pickles has a congenital disease called Reverse Shunting Patent Ductus Arteriosus. Her life expectancy was listed as 1-24 months on her cardiology report, but because she responded to the medication well, we are hopeful she will have a longer life span. Her foster home said the medication made a noticeable difference. Pickles is already quite the survivor at 6 years old! Her cardiology report states that ⅔ of dogs with her condition do not survive past 1 year. Pickles will need an adopter committed to her medication regimen as she receives 5 different medications. The cost of her medications is approximately $80-90/month. Her food also needs to be specific due to elevated kidney levels. She is currently doing well on Purina Pro Plan dry. Pickles is also to remain on an exercise restricted life, she should avoid heavy activity, a lot of excitement, and temperature extremes. Her adopter will need to expect to keep up with regular veterinary visits including potential future cardiology appointments if/as needed. Pickles is not spayed, and cannot be safely sedated for the surgery. Her heat cycles will need to be carefully managed. If you think you have the room in your heart and home for this special-needs girl, more information on our adoption process and our adoption application can be found at www.luluslockerrescue.org.

Story
FOSTERED IN: Chicago, IL 60619 ESTIMATED DOB: 2015 WEIGHT: 21lbs KIDS: Older DOGS: Yes CATS: Some HISTORY: Reese came to us from an animal control facility. She was surrendered because her owner had too many animals. ABOUT: Reese’s foster mom describes her as smart, sweet, adaptable, laid back, and a little stubborn. She enjoys attention, but isn’t demanding of it. Her foster thinks she might get more into snuggling an attention if there were not other animals around. Reese is excellent with the other dogs, she just might be a bit more interested in attention if she didn’t have to wait in line. Reese’s foster said she is a very good girl who adapted to the routine of her foster home very quickly and just goes with the flow. Reese is not very vocal. She doesn’t bark at the neighbors nor whine to get your attention. Reese is not crated when her foster is not home, but she is gated into a certain room of the home. She does just fine until her foster mom returns. Reese will ask to go outside with a little bark and throwing her head back and forth, but if you aren’t speedy enough she will have an accident. She has also used the available pads a few times. In general, she loves to spend time outside on nice days, but absolutely hates the rain. Reese does well on leash and is good in the car. Reese is being fostered with a cat, but she occasionally likes to run and bark at her, so she would do best with confident cats. Reese is being fostered with other small dogs and gets along very well with everyone, although she mostly chooses to keep to herself. She does prefer that they not interfere with her dining experience, but who doesn’t! Unfortunately Reese doesn’t extend the same courtesy to her friend and will happily help herself to their food if they aren’t fast enough. Reese is a sweet girl, but she got overwhelmed at the vet and didn’t want to be monkeyed with too much, so we think a home with older children will be more appropriate for her. When Reese came to us she was on Royal Canin Urinary SO food due to urinary tract infections she had at animal control. Our vet is not certain she needs to remain on this food, but we have opted to leave her on it for the time being so we don’t introduce any urinary issues while she is looking for her forever home. An adopter can discuss the possibility of transitioning her to an over-the-counter urinary care food with their vet. More information on our adoption process and our adoption application can be found at www.luluslockerrescue.org. Reese asks to go outside: https://youtu.be/yW0c7r2ikxM

Story
Our dog Kasey showed up at our door step in 2021. We decided to keep her because we felt we were equipped to give her a loving home and didn't want to give her to a shelter. A month later we found out she was pregnant and she had 5 healthy puppies which we found loving homes for. After Kasey's pregnancy she became aggressive with people she didn't know. Sometimes she's very sweet and sometimes she can be snappy. Sometimes she follows her potty routine and sometimes she randomly starts to potty in the house. We love Kasey, but currently realized she needs someone that could give her the attention she needs with the behaviors she has been exhibiting. We want to find a caring loving home for her and willing to keep her until that opportunity presents itself.

Story
FOSTERED IN: Chicago, IL 60625 ESTIMATED DOB: 2016 WEIGHT: 10lbs KIDS: Likely DOGS: Yes CATS: Possible HISTORY: Orchid came to us from a suburban animal control facility. ABOUT: Orchid is the sweetest, most affectionate, happiest girl. She loves to be with people and is a constant companion and shadow. Her foster doesn’t even think she knows her name, as they never have an opportunity to call her - she is always right there with you. Orchid loves to hop around on her back legs to get your attention. She will do anything to get into your lap. If you dare sit down to put your shoes on you have to contend with her trying to climb up into your lap. Once she is in your lap she sits down and is completely content. Her foster often puts her in a dog sling to be carried around when they need to get something done and Orchid insists on being close by. Orchid is a burrower and will ask you to hold the blanket up so she can run under and will often sleep on or near your legs. Orchid is being fostered with a large and small dog. She does great with them, but can annoy them. When she wants to play she can’t read the room and doesn’t respond to their lack of interest. She sees nothing wrong with standing on another sleeping dog to try to get them to play or relentlessly jumping on them as a play invitation. So while she is great with other dogs and wants to play, she should only be placed with tolerant dogs of a similar activity level. Her foster often has to play interference as it isn’t fair to expect the other dogs to tolerate her well-meaning, but annoying behaviors. She does like to bark at dogs on the sidewalk and other dogs when she is on leash. Orchid is not fostered with cats, but she didn’t react much to a cat she met at the vet, so it is possible that she may be OK with cats - although she might be just as pesty to them as she can be to other dogs. Orchid is not high energy, and loves to cuddle and snuggle, but her foster says Orchid has a “high idle” at times. If you are busy, she is busy: “Do you need help?” “What are you doing, can I watch?” Although she can be in the way, on occasion, it is hard to be mad at her because she is so sweet and doesn’t mean any harm. She enjoys playing with toys, especially stuffed toys with squeakers. Orchid is very food motivated so you need to keep an eye on anything that could potentially be interesting for her to eat including things like chapstick and medicine. Orchid is crated while her foster is gone. She has been left gated in the kitchen a few times, without issue, but she cannot be left anywhere that she can find something interesting to eat. The neighbor does say that she cries for a while when her foster leaves, so she will not be appropriate for all apartment situations. Orchid is very good at going potty outside, but she will do best if she has potty pads available. She knows what they are for and will make an effort to hit them as long as they are in regular spots. Orchid recently had surgery to remove a Calcium Oxalate bladder stone. She will need to remain on a prescription diet throughout the rest of her life. Her treats must also be appropriate. It isn’t a very big deal, as Orchid is so food motivated that she is happy to take pieces of her food as treats. Even with the diet changes, the stones may still recur. https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/calcium-oxalate-bladder-stones-in-dogs. Orchid is not being fostered with children. Although her foster doesn’t think she would be anything but sweet as pie, all children would need to be old enough to reliably keep things out of her reach and not feed her any table scraps or unapproved treats.
