Story
Doug was adopted when he was about 2 months old. He is currently 3 years old. A new home for Doug would look like someone who may be home often & has time to play with him. He loves his toys. He's very energetic & goofy. He loves a good sleep. He does currently live with two pitbulls, but he does think & act like he's much larger than he is. He is potty trained but he's not good with holding his potty due to him being so compacted he does sometimes have accidents. He loves his people a little too much sometimes but he can be redirected with treats!

Story
Luna is about 2 years old and is a sweet, playful girl with a big personality. She loves Jeep rides, squeaky toys, and especially playing fetch with her favorite hedgehog. She has plenty of energy and would do well with another playful dog close to her size and age. She also plays nicely with cats. Luna is also a champion couch hog who loves being near her people and will happily curl up next to you or sleep beside you. She is trained to ring bells hanging on the door when she needs to go outside, although she may need a refresher while adjusting to a new home. Fair warning: Luna LOVES chasing squirrels, and if she spots one outside, she has been known to “fake ring” the bells so she can go investigate! Luna comes with everything she needs, including her crate, leash, harness, and other accessories. She’s looking for a loving home filled with playtime, adventures, cuddles—and preferably a good squirrel-watching window.

Story
Rudy is approximately 9 years old, and was adopted from Michiana Humane Society in 2018. She grew up with another dog and 3 kids. She has spent the last 2 years with cats. She is extremely docile with adults and LOVES affection. She has recently shown food aggression around the kids and has attacked the cats 2 times in the last 2 weeks. She would thrive in an adult only home, with humans who stay home often or are able to take her on adventures with them. She loves belly rubs and long walks. She has never bitten a human but has bitten the cats. She will growl if anyone nears her food. This is extremely devastating for our family, but I can’t risk her aggression generalizing to the kids, as it’s posing a safety risk to my family. She is very loyal to the person she bonds to, and I’ve never met a person who didn’t fall in love with her. I want her to find a safe, loving family that can give her the time and attention she deserves as she continues aging, to help with her anxiety 🩷

Story
Meet Hermes This beautiful brindle little man is Hermes, and we believe he’s just about 1 year old. Two weeks ago, Hermes was found running loose in Lake Station. Animal Control couldn’t pick him up due to jurisdiction issues, which left this poor boy stuck — cold, alone, and with nowhere to go. Hermes is a short-haired terrier, not built to survive winter weather on his own. Thankfully, a good Samaritan stepped in, took him out of the cold, and kept him safe while efforts were made to find his owner. After two weeks, sadly, no one came forward. So today, we say — Welcome to the Guardians, you beautiful boy. Hermes has already shown us just how special he is: &#226&#156&#133 Potty trained Gets along great with the resident dog Chased the cat a little (terrier gonna terrier ) Absolutely loves kids Thriving in a foster home environment A huge thank-you to Mike and Rebecca for picking him up, keeping him safe, and opening their home to foster him. This is how lives are saved — one compassionate yes at a time. Hermes is now fully vetted, microchipped, and today he proudly took the “No Puppies for Me” pledge with his Neuter Is Cuter surgery. Thank you to our amazing vet partners at Coyne Veterinary Center for getting him in so quickly and taking such great care of him. &#226&#156&#168 Hermes is ready to find his forever family. A warm couch. A family to love. A life where he never has to wonder if help is coming. Stay tuned — this little guy’s next chapter is just beginning Thank you for your interest in adopting a pet from Guardians of the Green Mile Inc. We are a group of individuals that have come together to save the lives of animals that are in danger of being euthanized. We raise funds to fully vet the animals and to provide them with a stable home until they are adopted. All of the dogs in our Rescue are in Foster homes while they are looking for their forever family. The only time we put a dog in boarding is for a Foster to go on vacation if another Foster is not able to care for them. We appreciate your taking the time to fill out the application to adopt one of our Guardians of the Green Mile pets. The questions that we ask are to only find the right fit for all of our dogs and the families that will be adopting them. Adoption donation is $300.00 for dogs over 1 year old and $350 with a $50.00 spay / neuter deposit for puppies/dogs under 1 year old.
