Story
Buttercup's smile lights up every room she is in. She is an eight-and-a-half-year-old sweetheart who brightens up when she gets to be outside hanging out with people. Her amber colored eyes are even prettier in person. She has this gentleness about her that makes time with her so enjoyable. Going for walks and snuggling are her two favorite things to do. Squeaky toys and tennis balls are two of her favorite toys. Once Buttercup knows you, she is so sweet, friendly, and playful. She likes to run and frolic and play around but then she likes to cuddle close. It's so nice to have a pup who wants to exercise but then can dial it down when it's time to relax. Buttercup has lived in a home with a feline friend before and she has done so well! She also had a very positive, happy reaction to them at the shelter! She asks to be the only puppy in her home. We've not seen her around kiddos but could see her being very loving if they were respectful and around 8ish and older. Sometimes she can be a bit shy when meeting new people, but this girl acclimates so quickly! It's a quick little get-to-know-you session and then she is wiggling and smiling all over the place! She's spayed so the next step is for you to come and meet her.

Story
This cow-printed handsome fellow is Buddy. He is about 40-pounds, is about four-and-a-half years old, and is neutered. He is available to be fostered or fostered-to-adopted. You see, all while he is a very loyal, loving companion once he knows you, he can be a nervous-nelly initially. We are hoping to find someone to foster him (or foster-to-adopt) so he can relax a bit as the shelter environment is making things harder for him. The great thing about Buddy is that we think he would do awesome with another dog-friendly dog! He's accustomed to living in a home with other easy-going dogs and has done well with them at the shelter, too! Ideally, we would love to see Buddy in a home that doesn't have a revolving door of visitors and new people. Once he knows someone, he is just the best boy ever. So, if given time to acclimate, we think he'd do just fine! As far as kiddos goes, he has done well with children and has lived with them before, but we do feel that it is most important for the home to have few visitors. He loves people who he knows and forms a very strong bond with them but isn't too sure of new friends, or strangers, and needs time to understand that he is safe with them, too. If you're in need of a running buddy, consider Buddy! He loves walkies and has shown to be an awesome pacer for you to get your miles in with! Please call us at 219-872-4499 to schedule an appointment to meet this good boy.

Story
Benji is the most perfect good boy and we have absolutely no idea how he hasn't found his family. He is a staff and volunteer favorite and we are consistently more and more impressed with his A+ manners and totally lovable personality. He is a "move-in" ready pup! He has one of the cleanest kennels, and he is so smart⭐🥰 He knows how to sit, lay down, come, stay, walk gently on a leash, and he takes treats so respectfully. And he is so willing to learn and please🤍 His interactions with other playful, friendly dogs have been very positive! Kiddos should be about teenagers and older. He asks for no kitty friends. Benji is playful and silly but also will lay down calmly and be content to just chill. He is a total cream puff and we love him so much🤍 He is a little over four years old and is neutered🤎🤍🤎 Please call us at 219-872-4499 to set up your time to meet Benji boy!

Story
Hello friends, I'm Trixie. I would love nothing more than to be adopted by someone who has another playful dog! Being around other dogs helps me to light up and I know that most people already have dogs, so I'm hoping this will help me find my family! My confidence, which can sometimes be a little low, is strengthened in a good way when I get to be with a dog friend. Once I know you, I fit amazingly well in your arms. I'm around 50ish pounds and love to be snuggled and cuddled close. I am timid when meeting new people but as long as you give me time to get to know you, I will warm up. So, if you are having friends over, would you allow me a slow introduction to them? You see, you may know that they are awesome people but please give me time to grasp onto that, as well. Older kiddos, maybe 10ish and up, would be so much fun! I ask for no kitty friends. I am spayed and am just waiting to hear that you are at MHS to meet me. Love, Trixie.

Story
This itty-bitty potato look-alike is Spud🥔🥹🤎 Spud is such a good girl and we all love her so much. She's a lil' shorty and is only about 48-pounds. Perfectly sized for cozy cuddles! When she gets excited, her little paws do the cutest tippy-taps and she melts our hearts. The thing about Spud that breaks our hearts is that she is so extremely kennel-stressed that she is not thriving in the shelter. She needs a foster home and someone who is willing to put time into helping her learn that she can trust people❤ The way to Spud's heart is not through food...this girl is all about patience and building a relationship. She has a timid and reserved personality. Please be willing to spend time with Spud so she can get to know you. Once she is out of her kennel for a bit, she relaxes and shows off her silly side. Once she is comfortable, she likes tennis balls and will walk around soliciting affection and pets. We know that Spud's in-the-home needs may be hard to find; but she is very much so worth the effort to try to find exactly what she needs. Spud needs a quiet and consistently calm home with few visitors. Everyone should be teenaged and up, and she'll need extra time to get to know any males, but, as you can see, she does come around! We'd love it if the foster was knowledgeable about dogs with anxiety. Our Spud girl is a bit of project and we can help guide her foster; we just need someone to be willing❤ She will be most comfortable being the only furbaby. Spud is about three years old, is about 42-pounds, and is spayed. To foster her, fill out the application found here: https://michianapets.org/get-involved/foster/. If you would like to adopt her, she is available to be fostered-to-adopted, as well🤎🥔🐾

Story
For a special dog like our Pablo, we are looking for a special owner! This little gentleman weighs around 29-pounds, is neutered and he makes us all smile every single day. He lived in a foster home for a few months while he was recovering from having all of his teeth extracted. Pablo has dentinogenesis imperfecta; which is a congenital condition due to a mutation where the dentin does not form properly. So, his little tongue hangs out but it doesn't stop him from loving tasty treats! He also is deaf but we don't see that as a handicap, per se, we see it as something that makes him special and it sure doesn't dull his spirits. Here is a note from his foster mom: "Pablo is deaf and has no teeth! Having no teeth doesn’t stop him from wanting to put EVERYTHING in his mouth. If it is edible, he will try to eat it like a young lil' puppy! He is still working on potty-training, but will hold it when he is kenneled. He does have some sort of neurological problem where he bobbles his head quite often. He does understand some hand signals and would thrive in a home with routine. He is VERY food-motivated and seems to get along with just about everyone. He is a couch potato and enjoys snuggling on your lap. He believes he is a lap dog! Pablo does great on a leash, but prefers short walks. He enjoys playing with other dogs and cats for a short period of time. Because he cannot hear, he doesn’t understand corrections from other dogs. He would do best in a home with another laidback dog and a laid back human. Pablo needs someone that would be able to work with him and understand he’s not your “typical” dog." -Pablo's foster mom. Our mood instantly improves when we are with Pablo. We hope you see all that we see in him. Stop by MHS if you'd like to adopt Pablo! He is waiting to meet his forever family...
