Story
Meet Reno!Tired of flying solo, this fun-loving boy is looking for someone to show him the good life.Deets: Terrier Pitty Mixalicious!Measurements: Big handsome head, slim waist & long waggly tail. Little known fact about Reno: He was an Olympic high jumper in a past life.M.O.: Breaking hearts and taking namesBio: Reno came in as a stray from West Des Moines and was never claimed. Reno has a friendly personality and is full of energy. We do believe he has hidden springs on his feet and likes to leap up to say hi, so we are working on “4 on the floor” with him. Ideal match: We are still getting to know Reno, but we do know that he is a friendly boy who loves to be active and would love a home that gives him a lot of exercise and structure. Proper intros to all family members (hooman and other doggos) is always required for all of our dogs to make sure it’s a great match. He has not met any children since he came into our care, we would be happy to host a meet and greet. We do not know what he thinks about cats, but we would cat test if someone has met this guy and wants to adopt him.If you would like to be the one to partner up with this handsome guy, please fill out an application on our website or come on in and meet him!Information on Reno may change as we get to know him better.

Story
Hi there! My name is Delores,!I am a 9-year-old, medium-sized lab mix that was trying my best to survive living in the forest before AHeinz57 came and rescued me. Living in the forest was not easy for me, so my hard start to life has made me slow to trust people and leery of other dogs, but I have learned a lot since I arrived. The volunteers have described me as shy, sweet, and cautious, but when I see people I know, my tail wags with excitement! I have learned to take treats gently from hands, but I am still hesitant to be petted. I even allowed some of the volunteers to brush me and change my collar, which were big steps that were not so easy for me! I even love fluffy beds and keep my kennel clean. One thing is for sure is that the shelter life is so much better than the forest, but I would still love to be in a home to call my own!Since being here at the shelter, I not only do well with my buddy Howard and have grown closer enough to play with him in the yard, but I have also learned to play nicely with other dogs and may even do well with another dog in the home. Although I have not lived in a home with another dog, it may be a little difficult at first to find the right routine, but as long as I have proper and slow introductions to them, we can learn to get along. I would do best in an adult home since kids are too noisy and loud for me, as I can get scared easily. It will take multiple meetings with me and even then, I might not be the most social, but I promise to love you forgiving me a chance. I do require a fully fenced in yard as it will help keep me safe and secure from wandering away. With the fence being a requirement, an apartment or townhome would not work well for me, but I appreciate the thought of wishing me luck in finding the perfect home for me! Now that the majority of my pack have since been adopted, I hear the volunteers talk about how all of them are doing well in their homes, and how they wish the same for me and my buddy Howard. I would love the opportunity for a quiet, patient, and consistent home that will let me grow at my own pace but will also show me the perks of house living! All of us forest dogs have our little quirks, but that is what makes us special. If you are interested in scheduling a time to meet with me or would like to know more information about me, please fill out an adoption application.Until then, I will be waiting for you and the chance to have a home to call my own.

Story
Flint is a big-hearted hound mix who’s all about love and giving hugs! Like his siblings Sasha and Flapjack, Flint came from a home full of dogs and has kept that social, playful spirit. He especially enjoys romping around in the runs with his brother, Flapjack, and they love to wrestle. In playgroups, he was a little scared of other dogs at first, but he did end up opening up. A meet-and-greet with all humans and furry friends is required to make sure it’s a perfect match. He has not had the opportunity to meet with a cat, but if he is anything like his sister Sasha, he may also think that they are fun toys to play with. While not quite as vocal as his brother, Flint still has plenty to say and will happily chat with you in his own way. Due to this, he would do best in a home without shared walls. He’s playful and energetic, but what he really loves is when someone sits down and gives him some good, old-fashioned pets. He`ll even pet you back! Flint would do best in a home where he gets both playtime and plenty of affection. We believe that Flint was kept outside in most of his past life, so he will need some assistance with his house manners, basic skills, as well as needing some durable chew toys. Stuffies are no match for him! Like most hounds, Flint loves to follow his nose for new scents and will pull on the leash if he smells something good. We are working on his leash skills, but he will need to continue his training once in his new home.If you would like to know more information about him, feel free to use the `Contact Us` page or call to ask more or fill out an adoption application on our website. Information about Flint may change as we get to know him better.

Story
Meet Skye!Skye is a beautiful young mama who has finished raising her puppies and is now ready to find a forever home of her very own. We have her listed as an Australian Kelpie, but she may also be mixed with Blue Heeler based on her personality and appearance. Like Blue Heelers and other herding breeds, Skye enjoys her exercise and has medium-to-high energy levels.Skye loves toys, enjoys playtime (including a game of fetch) and is just as happy settling in for a good cuddle. Skye walks great on a leash, but does like to stop and sniff! She loves doing puzzles, lick mats and doing nosework before bed. Skye is housetrained, but will tear up a blanket if she gets bored. She is very quiet in her kennel and will go right in with a treat. Skye is a very smart girl - she knows some basic commands: sit, stay, lay down and leave it. We are still working on off and tap. She will also be starting training at Zoom Room!Skye has a sweet, loving nature and loves to say hello to new people. She’s an affectionate, easygoing companion who enjoys being part of the household. She did best with a slow, thoughtful introduction to the resident dogs in her previous foster home. After a week or two, once routines were in place - including separate feeding and managing high-value toys - she did well with them. Once she settled in, she enjoyed playing and wrestling with a foster puppy, sharing toys and even playing tug-of-war with her. Skye does have some unpredictable resource guarding behaviors. Her foster mom is still keeping a watchful eye to find out potential triggers. Now that she is in a different foster home, she loves to be the center of attention and would probably do best as an only dog. Skye does like kids and seems to understand that she should be gentle with little ones. However, her rough and rowdy playstyle suggests she may knock littles over when playing. Because of her playful energy, she may do best in a home with older, dog-savvy children. Throwing toys around is very fun for her. When Skye is wound up, she has previously mouthed on hands or tries to herd feet, but we have mostly stopped this behavior with some training. Skye would really enjoy an active home. She loves going on walks and playing outside. Because she is a younger, high energy girl, we are requiring a fence for her at this time. She will get wound up without enough exercise. Skye’s story is still unfolding, and more updates
