Story
Hi! My name is Jasper! I am a 3 year old purebred Australian Shepherd. I am super playful and have LOTS of energy--I will play for DAYS! Unfortunately, I do suffer from quite a bit of fear and anxiety. My mom uses a prong collar when she takes me out because I bark and lunge at other people and pets when on walks. I'd definitely do best in a home with a fenced-in yard for that reason. I also need a home where I'd probably be the only pet. I need to be fed alone because I always protect my food by attacking other pets in my house when they get too close to my food dish. I do like playing with medium to bigger dogs so I may do well in a home with them if we are fed separately. But NO CATS! I do not get along with the cat in my current house which is why I need to find a new home. Despite some of my behavioral issues, I am VERY loyal and sweet once I bond with a person. I can take a while to warm up to new people but usually if you feed me a few treats, I become your new best friend.

Story
I adopted Nellie 6 years ago when she was just a puppy! She’s always been a nervous girl about new people and things but has gotten better over the years. She’s still hesitant with younger kids and dogs but with the right work she can handle it. She’s a lover and a cuddler and just wants all the attention she can get once she warms up to you!

Story
My wife has had Olaf since he was a puppy and he's now 5 years old. He's good with older kids but has issues with younger kids (~5 and younger) until he gets comfortable with them. He can be territorial at home and he'll bark at other people and animals but he's good otherwise, especially once he gets to know people. We're giving him up for adoption because we don't have the time to love and care for him the way he needs. He's having to spend a lot of time in the kennel during the day while we're at work. When my wife first got him, and up to a couple of months ago, she had time during the day to care for him and give him a lot of attention but now she works during the day.

Story
- Sweet girl, knows sit and down!- May take time to warm up but once she knows you will take treats and pets!- Loves to go on walks around the shelter and does well on a leash- Tends to be socially awkward with other dogs (dog intro recommended) - Young, noisy or busy children can be too much for them (mature home recommended) The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: Black Weight: 59.5 Age: 4yrs 0mths 2wks

HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet this dog, please email ARL-Adoption@arl-iowa.org.---- LOVES to run and play outside; would probably enjoy a big fenced yard - Recently got to spend some time out of the shelter with a human companion, who said she was "quite the cuddler and even a hugger!" - Knows sit, shake, and down and loves treats, so she'd likely be a fast learner; positive reinforcement-based training classes would be great for her for learning new things, building confidence and bonding with her family- Appears to be potty trained; just remember any dog may need time to adjust to a new schedule - Tends to be socially awkward with other dogs (dog intro recommended) - May need some extra time to decompress in a new home, so please plan on giving her that if she needs it The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. - Loves to learn and has great focus - especially if you have treats - so would be a lot of fun to train - Shy pup who may need extra time to warm up to new people and things; will likely open up in a home environment with patience and time and may prefer a calm, quiet home- Looking for a teens-and-up home right now - May take some time to warm up to new dogs and may prefer some dogs over others; would be most comfortable with a slow introduction to new dogs (dog intro recommended) The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs.
