Story
This little 10 lb., 9-month-old cutie is a true testament to resilience. Mika and her two sisters were left in a drop box at a New Mexico animal shelter before a kind long-distance trucker transported them cross-country to the safety of New Rattitude. While her first six months left her frightened and wary of people (likely due to lack of socialization), day by day, Mika is letting her bravery shine! Mika's incredible transformation—from a terrified rescue to a happy, confident puppy—is beautifully documented in her photo album here:  https://imageevent.com/newrattitude/mika   Mika is actively learning to trust and love! She now eagerly initiates touch and play with all three members of her foster family. While she isn't quite ready to be picked up yet, she happily accepts full-body pets. She is also making fantastic strides with house-training; while she used to rely entirely on potty pads out of fear, she now loves going outside and rarely has a daily accident. The crate is still slightly suspicious to her, but she eats meals in the crate and sometimes voluntarily chooses to spend some time relaxing there. At night, she chooses to sleep in a dog bed in a room by herself but she is overjoyed to see her human and canine friends in the morning! Because Mika is still building her confidence and learning how to be a regular dog, she needs a specific environment to help her thrive: A securely fenced yard: Leash training is still a work in progress, so a secure yard is required for her to safely run, play, and do her business. A confident canine guide: Mika requires a home with at least one other small, confident dog who can model good behavior and be a fun playmate. An adult-focused home: Due to her startle reflex, a home without small children (and their quick, unpredictable movements) is best. Patience and love: An understanding family who views training challenges as bonding opportunities. With every small victory, you'll know exactly what a profound difference you're making in Mika's life. Your heart will burst with pride the first time she looks to you for reassurance and conquers a fear. If you are ready for the deeply rewarding journey of unlocking this sweet girl's full potential, Mika is ready to become your loyal best friend! Story
Meet J. Cole! This 5-year-old, 50-pound sweetheart is ready to find a family to call his own. J. Cole came to us after his previous owner was unfortunately no longer able to properly care for him. He has been patiently waiting since June 26th, 2026 for a fresh start with a family who will love him for years to come.J. Cole is a friendly, social boy who truly enjoys being around people. Whether he`s asking for pets or showing off his manners, he`s happiest when he`s spending time with his human friends. He already knows several commands, including sit, shake, and down, and would likely enjoy learning even more with positive reinforcement. His affectionate personality and eagerness to interact make him a joy to spend time with.J. Cole may be a great fit for a home with children, and we ask that all family members meet him prior to adoption. He appreciates slow introductions when meeting other dogs, especially those who are polite and respectful. With proper introductions, he may do well sharing his home with another canine companion. J. Cole has also lived around cats in the past, though we don`t have detailed information about those interactions, so any introductions to feline family members should be made gradually.J. Cole is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. If you`re interested in meeting J. Cole or learning more, please reach out to an adoption counselor by phone at (517) 626-6060 or email at adoptions@adoptlansing.org.

Story
Meet Little Danny! This 1-year-old, 40-pound bundle of energy is ready to find an active family to keep up with his adventurous spirit! Little Danny came to us on an ASPCA transport from a shelter in Kentucky and has been patiently waiting since July 1st, 2026 for a home of his very own.Little Danny is a fun-loving young dog with a true zest for life. Whether he`s chasing after a ball, entertaining himself with a favorite stuffy, or soaking up attention from his people, he`s always ready for the next adventure. One of his sweetest quirks is giving gentle little chin nibbles while he showers you with face kisses—a sure sign that he`s happy to be with you! He already seems to know `sit` and would benefit from continued positive reinforcement training as he grows into a well-mannered adult. As an athletic, high-energy dog, Little Danny will thrive with a family that can provide plenty of daily physical exercise and mental enrichment. His excitement for life can sometimes come out through typical young-dog mouthy behavior, so we recommend that all children meet him prior to adoption to ensure he`s a good fit for the family. When meeting another dog here at the shelter, Little Danny was thrilled to make a new friend. He may enjoy having a canine playmate who shares his enthusiasm and can keep up with his playful energy.Little Danny is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. If you`re interested in meeting Little Danny or learning more, please reach out to an adoption counselor by phone at (517) 626-6060 or email at adoptions@adoptlansing.org.

Story
Meet Jewel! She is a 1-year-old beautiful medium-sized female dog who is around 40 lbs and ready to find a loving home to call her own. Jewel originally came to us from a shelter in New Mexico, was briefly adopted, and then returned when she wasn’t the right fit for her previous home. She has been patiently waiting since May 27, 2026 for her second chance.Jewel is a bright, fun, and affectionate girl who is a joy to those who know her. She loves snuggling, enjoys kiddie pools, and is always ready for playtime and activity. She is an intelligent, energetic dog who would thrive in a home that can provide both mental and physical stimulation—she’s not a couch potato kind of dog.Jewel can be a bit reserved when first meeting new people and situations, so she does best with a patient adopter who will give her time to settle in. Once she’s comfortable, she’s very loving and engaged. She has enjoyed playgroup at the shelter and may do well with another energetic, playful dog in the home. If there are cats in the home, a slow, structured introduction is recommended. She would do best in a home with older children or teens who can respect her space while she adjusts, and all household members will need to meet her prior to adoption.Jewel is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. If you’re interested in meeting Jewel or learning more, please reach out to an adoption counselor by phone at (517) 626-6060 or email at adoptions@adoptlansing.org.

Story
Meet Willa Bee!If you`re looking for a loyal, loving companion with both brains and heart, Willa Bee may be the perfect match! This sweet 4-year-old, 70-pound girl came to us after her owner was moving and could no longer keep her. Despite all the changes she`s experienced, Willa Bee has remained friendly, affectionate, and eager to make new friends. She`s a smart cookie, too—she already knows `sit` like a pro and seems to know `shake` and `down` as well!Willa Bee has the kind of personality that could fit into many different homes. She`ll likely need a little time to settle into a new routine, but with patience and love, she`s sure to blossom. We recommend a home with older children if there are any, and we do require everyone in the household to meet her before adoption. Willa Bee has done wonderfully with other dogs and may enjoy having a canine companion. She may also be able to live with cats, and her previous owner reported that she is fully housetrained.Willa Bee has been patiently waiting for her forever family since June 7, 2026. She`s spayed, microchipped, and up-to-date on her vaccines and preventatives, so she`s ready to head home with the people she`ll love for years to come. Interested in adopting Willa Bee?
