Story
Meet June Bug, a face-kissing fanatic! This super sweet 39-pound pup originally came to us as a transfer from a local shelter and was adopted, but came back to us when sharing space and toys with a toddler wasn`t something she was ready for. She`d do best in a home with older children who understand her excitable play style. Juney B is eager to please and knows `sit`, `down`, `paw` and even `sit pretty` (although, we aren`t super sure what her cue is for that last one, as she offers it up independently). She also loves to play with the agility equipment we have and is very good at the tunnel! Historically, June has had trouble living full time in a home with another dog. She may be ok for playdates, but she tends to become possessive over time, making it hard to share the love with her canine roomies. If you have a dog(s) already in your home, our adoptions team would set up a meet-and-greet with your resident pup in a controlled environment to see how they get along and offer advice for the future. June Bug spent a couple of weeks in a foster home with cats and she did pretty well! Want to meet June Bug and see if they’re a match for your family? Story
Meet Quiche Lorraine, who was found as a somewhat nervous stray along with another dog, who has since been adopted. Quiche can still be nervous with new people and in new environments, but she has made many friends in the staff and volunteers here at the shelter. She walks great on a leash and knows some basic tricks, such as `sit`. QuiQui went to a home for a few days but she wasn`t comfortable with the other dogs in that space, so she came back to us to try again. We think Quiche would make a great one-and-only dog for a homebody who also prefers a few well-known friends over lots of new ones. Once you gain her trust, she`ll likely never want to leave your side! Stop by the shelter during open hours to meet her! Story
Hello! I`m Buddy Jr. and people say I`m very attractive (I tend to agree). I weigh about 53 pounds and have a super goofy side! I came here because my human had some health issues that prevented them from caring for me. I`m really good at sitting when you ask (usually) and take treats pretty gently at first. I try to be polite. However, once you decide to get down to my level (such as squatting or sitting) then my rowdy puppy stuff comes out! I`ll want to put my paws and mouth all over you! It`s fun for me, and some folks like it, but small kids would probably have a hard time (i don`t know my strength). Oops! I`m still learning, so hopefully some committed person can help me along my way. If you have another dog, or small kids, you`ll definitely want to set up a meet with our shelter staff before deciding if I`m the right guy for you! Story
Hello new friends! I`m Sox, a cute medium-sized pup looking for a new home in New York! I travelled here from Louisiana, and I`m still recovering from the journey in my foster home, so you won`t spot me in the Adoption Center quite yet. My foster parent describes me as sweet, energetic, and curious. I`m loyal, sticking close to my friends, and I love big crunchy dog biscuits. I don`t mind car-rides, and I`m learning how to sleep in my crate overnight. If you are interested in meeting me, email adoptions@spcaonline.com and the shelter staff will make a plan with you. Story
Introducing, Margo (66 pounds and holding)! With an adorable underbite and playful personality, Margo is the full package! Even though the shelter is a spooky place for a lot of animals, Margo has settled in well. Although she can be nervous of strangers at times, she is quickly becoming a staff and volunteer favourite, as she is goofy and full of love! Margo was adopted about a year ago and came back to us when they realized their home was a bit too busy for her. Margo may need to be your only dog and can be picky about strangers entering the home. No worries though, the adoption staff can counsel you on the best way to manage Margo when she is meeting new people! If you`ve been looking for a companion in the 60 pound range, Margo could be your girl! If you`d like to meet her, call, email or stop by the shelter during open hours to find out more! Story
Hey! I`m Queen (55lbs), an adorable 4 year old girlie with a big smile! I have been on my best behavior waiting for my new home, so I`m not sure what`s taking so long! I love to go on walks, lounge in the sun, roll in the grass and snuggle up on the couch! If you like to play, I`ll grab a toy and make silly noises while I show it to you by shoving it all over your body. Some people say I`m kind of clumsy and giggle when I trip over things because I`m so focused on sniffing or chasing my toy. Sometimes I can get really excited and bouncy, but that should lessen over time. Once I get to know and trust you, we`ll be best buds for life! I`m super smart and food motivated, so I can learn a lot if you`re willing to teach me! Here`s one bummer about me: I`m pretty uncomfortable sharing space with other dogs and small kids. I`ve tried, trust me, but I would really prefer to be your one-and-only dog. Older kids might be fine with me, but they`ll need to be old enough to pay attention to what is making me uncomfortable or over excited. Honestly, everyone who gets to spend time with me ends up falling in love. I swear if I can just find the right person, I`ll make them feel very loved and happy!
