Hi there, they call me Whiskey and I`m a 60 pound 5 year old babe with ears for days! As you can see, my ears stand straight up when I`m alert. They will lay flat if I`m nervous or relaxed, which gives me many different `looks` so you`ll never tire of my cute face! I can be a little skittish around new people and new places, so please be patient and gentle when we first meet. Once we`re besties, I love neck scratches and, if you do it right, I`ll probably flop over some belly rubs! I like to play with toys too and make silly noises sometimes. I got adopted a while back, but my person had to move to a smaller space and there wouldn`t be room for me. With my person, I got to go on walks every day, lounge on the couch or bed, and play with my favourite squeaker duck! There was a cat there too, and I did ok, but if you have a cat at your place, our staff will suggest a good way to be sure we can co-exist peacefully. This handsome guy is Kirby (50lbs). He was brought in as a stray from the Town of Ithaca, so we unfortunately don`t know much about his history in a home. Here at the shelter, he absolutely loves playing with toys and chewing on them in the company of his volunteer friends. He is a very smart boy and has learned a lot since coming here! Meet Blair (60 lbs)! This sweet girl came to us as a stray from downtown Ithaca. Here at the shelter, she walks very well on a leash and loves cuddling with our volunteers. Her favorite thing in the world is cheese. Since we don’t know her history in a home, we`re unsure how she’ll do in a home with cats or kids. Meet Alvin (12 pounds), a small senior boy looking for a home (and a hula hoop) for the holidays! Alvin can be slow to warm up to new people and tends to be picky about new friends in general. Once he is comfortable with you, be prepared to have a little shadow! With his buddies, Alvin loves to be doted on, held and petted (but please don’t assume he wants your friends to do the same). Since he can`t tell us exactly what his likes and dislikes are, we are looking for humans who can read his body language and advocate for him out in the world when needed. We think his ideal home would be on the quiet side, with adults or older teens only, and without a lot of strangers coming and going. Alvin finds it challenging to share his prized items and people with other dogs, so he may be happiest as your one and only. Chex Mix (31lbs) and his brother, Apple Jax were abandoned outside our building on a cold night. Unfortunately, their history is a mystery when it comes to cats and young children. Chex Mix is a sweet young man who would love a home where he can continue to work on his manners. Sudden movements and loud noises still make him a little nervous, so please go slow with him at first. He`s working on being brave, but is doing so well on learning to trust people.
