Story
Scotty is a sweet, energetic boy who came to ACCT as a stray after being picked up by our Animal Protection Officers. From the moment he arrived, his friendly personality and happy-go-lucky spirit have shined through. Scotty is a high-energy pup who loves to run and play. Volunteers describe him as an enthusiastic jogging buddy who can’t wait to get outside—he happily zooms around the yard and is always up for a few extra laps. He’s very treat-motivated, already knows “sit,” and is easy to redirect with a snack or a little leash guidance. He can get bouncy when excited, but with how quickly he responds to cues, he’s well on his way to being a wonderfully mannered companion. In his kennel, Scotty presents softly and sweetly, greeting visitors at the front with gentle eyes and a loose, wiggly body. He takes treats gently, enjoys affection, and loves leaning into his people for pets. He’s also a talker in the most endearing husky-like way—full of personality and charm. Scotty has shown friendly interest in other dogs, offering loose body language and playful bows through the fence. He may do well with a canine friend who matches his play style. This handsome boy has had a couple of moments in the shelter where he became worried after picking up food off the ground, showing some hypersalivation and brief hesitation. Staff helped him through it, and outside of those moments he remained social, responsive to treats, and tolerant of handling. His initial shyness during intake—needing some encouragement to load into the truck—shows that while he’s a confident, silly guy, he also has a soft, sensitive side. Overall, Scotty is a friendly, affectionate, and playful pup who’s ready to leave the shelter behind and find a family who will help him run, explore, and continue learning. If you’re looking for a fun-loving adventure buddy with a big heart, Scotty is your guy! Videos: Scotty & Margo Meet: https://youtube.com/shorts/LsnHraKGYBM?feature=share Behavior Notes: Per volunteer 12/3/25: High-energy boy who loves to run! I took Scottie out for a walk last night, and he was so excited to go. He is very treat-motivated and will sit/stay for treats. He loves to run (we went for several laps along the yard). He jumps a fair amount, but he is easily redirected with treats or leash pressure. He was easy to leash and did well running with me. He was happy to run and play! Per staff 12/1/25: Kennel Presentation: At the front of his kennel when I approached. Soft eyes, ears to the side and loose body. Took a treat gently through the kennel bars. Leash Skills: Easy to leash and came right out of kennel without hesitation. Mildly pulled on the leash through the kennels, zig zags on the leash and pulled a little harder outside but easy to redirect. Sociability: Very social. Silly guy allowed all handling, would Playbow to me spin around and lean into my legs. He can be talkative like any husky is. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Met Coraline through the fence. Loose, wiggly and playbowing to eachother. Return to Kennel: Walked right into kennel and unleashed without issue. Per staff 12/1/25: Took Scotty out for a meet - was reasonably easy to leash and was neutral to loose the entire time. Before walking into the vestibule he seemed to grab something off the ground and then froze. He began to hypersalivate and showing his teeth, though I wasn't sure if he was bearing his teeth or was trying to not cough up what he'd gotten. After a minute he loosened up and stopped, and he took a treat fine, so we continued with the meet. He was fine with during the meet - a little mouthy but allowed all handling and showed knowledge of sit. He was very treat motivated. On the way back he put on the brakes in C row and the same thing happened again, however I saw on the ground a piece of food that I'd been assuming he'd eaten. He seemed to be salivating more this time, so I called for behavior over the walkie. Stevie came up and he'd mostly stopped. He was hesitant to go back in the kennel, but with momentum and treats he went back reasonably easily. Main concern was the hypersalivation and that the second time he did seem to be baring teeth. Per staff 11/29/25: bit headshy when being leashed, had to be lassoed. Hesitant to get in truck, had to be suitcased. Scotty is friendly, just a bit shy ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details. Story
Meet Koda (fka Hermes) who came to ACCT Philly as a stray. From the very beginning, he showed what a steady, well-mannered boy he is. Remaining calm during intake, allowing staff to leash him easily, and walking nicely alongside his handler. In the shelter, Koda continues to show off his gentle and easygoing nature. He is consistently easy to leash, walks politely on leash, and takes treats with exceptional gentleness. While he can be aloof and independent, he enjoys respectful interactions and shows sweet flashes of affection; sometimes hopping up briefly for attention before happily bouncing away. He appreciates pets on his own terms and seems especially fond of chest scritches. Koda has done well with other dogs at the shelter and has demonstrated calm, appropriate social skills. He did have one dog interaction that was not positive, however he recovered quickly from the interaction and had appropriate play afterwards. He greets politely, maintains a soft and loose body, and enjoys relaxed parallel walking without pressure to engage in play, though he has shown playful moments and interest in toys. Overall, Koda is a boy who would thrive in a home that appreciates a mellow, thoughtful companion who doesn’t demand constant attention but enjoys a meaningful and gentle connection. He is a handsome, sweet boy with good leash manners, polite social skills, and a quiet charming personality that really shines once you spend time with him. Koda is in foster care through ACCT Philly, to learn more or schedule a meet please email foster@acctphilly.org BEHAVIOR NOTES: 01/15/2026 foster notes: Good afternoon! Hermes has been doing great! He took no time in getting comfy at home and showing his sassy husky vocals off along with his play stances. Loves to get boots scratches and give kisses. He doesn't react at all when he hears the others dogs barking. Last night showed he was a little anxious, so his human foster sister slept in the bedroom with him and he curled up next to her, even turned over for belly rubs. On another note, any possibility on changing his name? He does not respond to Hermes, but when my daughter mentioned the name Koda, he actually looked and turned his head. Just figured it's worth asking. Side comment- he is so sweet and we fell in love immediately ❤️ Walksheet notes: - 12/23 per staff: Super Sweet boy. Not very interested in people, great on leash - 12/24 per staff: Sweet boy, good on leash. Likes having chest scratched - 12/24 per staff: Met Cranberry Frosting, did well. Easy to leash & walk. Tolerant of pets but doesn't ask for them - 12/27 per staff: Lose leash(mostly). Sniff & marking focused - 1/4 per staff: Play bowed w/ other dogs. Loves toys & easy to take from him. Tolerated pets but flinched when I went to pet him overhead -1/5 per staff: Walks nicely on leash. Sniffs around pens. Enjoyed some pets, gentle On 1/5 per volunteer: Hermes is very easy to leash and remove from kennel. He was very easy to take out and seem to be low - medium energy when walking through the parking lot . When we got in the yard he showed his adorable personality playing with toys and soliciting affection. I was able to take the toy easily and continue playing. He is a very handsome and sweet boy On 12/24 per staff: Kennel Presentation: At the kennel door when I approached. Neutral body, tail down, soft eyes with ears forward. Took a treat gently through the bars. Leash Skills: Easy to leash, walked right next to handler through kennels. Would randomly pull mildly when outside. Sociability: Aloof most of the time. I did some consent petting and he just stood there with his head in the other direction. When I sat on the bench he did jump up on me and then bounce away. Takes treats very gently. Play: did not interact with any of the toys. Dog Interaction: Met Frosting and Cranberry. soft and loose body, nice parallel walking not fully interested in play. Return to Kennel: Went right into his kennel without hesitation. Story
Cool as ice, Iceberg stuns with his looks and surprisingly chill vibe. He's a one of a kind husky, calm, incredibly sweet, and seems to just want to hang with his people. He has not shown interest in squirrels on walks, (some interest in dog friends) and is content to be with his person. Iceberg is also pretty quiet for his breed and only occasionally sings the song of his people! Everyone at his store at the Passyunk location adores him. Come melt your heart and meet Iceberg today!

Story
Balto came to ACCT Philly as a stray on December 13th. He was lethargic upon intake and radiographs revealed massive fluid dilation of the stomach and there is concern for a pyloric outflow obstruction. Despite not feeling well, Balto has shown himself to be a gentle, calm dog who allows handling. Staff noted that he is sweet, slightly head shy, and tolerant of interaction when approached respectfully. He remained neutral when observed with the finder’s dog, was comfortable being held by the finder’s child, and was very excited to interact with another dog at the shelter. As of 6pm 12/13, he seems to be improving but would benefit from finding rescue placement! VIDEOS: Balto gets belly rubs: https://youtu.be/ikw-iP53t4I Petting Balto: https://youtu.be/FaTp09bay-g Giving Balto Affection: https://youtube.com/shorts/2X48u9BNMqo?feature=share Balto and Rocket Meet: https://youtu.be/8396Wo4clyc BEHAVIOR: Per Volunteer 12/20/25: He was spinning in circles when I approached his kennel and body remained loose. I easily leashed him and he hopped right out of the kennel and eagerly walked out. Some pulling on leash. While walking he sometimes did a couple spins as well. He was very eager to say hi to other dogs that we walked by. We did a dog meet with another dog, and Balto was play bowing and jumping, and pulling to get to him. Then got pretty vocal with a growling play style so we stopped the meet just in case. Brought a new handler into the play yard, and Balto backed away from her and came to me. He would approach her then back away and seemed uncertain if he wanted attention. On our walk, he stopped and laid down for a belly rubs in the middle and got very affectionate with me. Unsure of strangers, but took comfort in me as his handler and took pets all over! No issues returning to kennel. Behavior Eval 12/18/25: Kennel Presentation: Balto was spinning in circles at the front with neutral eyes and a neutral tai. he was a bit difficult to leash as he nervous, moving to the backside and pulling away from the leash. it took multiple tries before i was able to secure him Leash Skills: pulls minimally - spins in circles Sociability: Balto was very curious in the room, sniffing around and trying to climb on the chair. he came right to me when i called for him with a submissive lay down and rolled over to show his newly. he allowed all handling and let me even rub on his belly. he took treats gently and knew sit but lost focus many times. He was a nervous boy, getting frightened easily and moving away from whatever scared him. he is a big baby, coming back into my lap and laying down Play: N/A Dog Interaction: N/A Return to Kennel: walked right in, tried coming back out - needed some leash pressure Color Level: blue Per staff 12/13: Balto didn't want to stand up or come out of his kennel, but as soon as the other dog entered the room, he came right off. He was loose and greeted the other dog. Staff noted it was the first time they saw his tail wag all day! He was a little pushy but was still gentle with the other dog overall. He was a very good boy and allowed pets. He did not want to go back in his kennel and needed to be lifted back in. Per staff 12/13: On first introduction, Balto is sweet, slightly head shy but relatively calm as long as you don't move too fast above his head space. Per staff 12/13: I passed by Balto when he first arrived. A staff member was sitting on the floor and Balto was standing near another staff member. When I walked by again, he approached me and allowed some pets. They described him as being very calm for a husky. Per staff 12/13: On first introduction, Balto is sweet, slightly head shy but relatively calm as long as you don't move too fast above his head space.Observed Balto with the finder's dog; Balto remained neutral. He was also comfortable being held by a child, approximately 10 years old, who was with three other children of similar age. MEDICAL: Per staff 12/13: Balto is doing much better as of his exam just now, gums are no longer brick red, abdomen is not tense, he's showing interest in food. He should be good to stay the night here, we're going to set him up in a surgery kennel NPO for the night with a sign to only give small amounts of water since he will bolt it very quickly. 12/13 CVT Exam: Presented as a stray, initially went through dog intake, staff noted P appeared dehydrated and lethargic. On exam, P was QAR, tolerated all handling. Staff noted he was refusing food but obsessively gulping water. Eyes clear Ears clean, noted the tips of both pinnae missing, consistent with previous frostbite or similar. Ulcerated lesion on nasal philtrum Teeth clean and white, gums brick red and dry. Overall very poor body condition, ~2.5/9 BCS. Painful/tense abdomen on palpation, regurgitated water when I palpated the stomach. Radiographs showed massive fluid dilation of the stomach. BW unremarkable Concern for pyloric outflow obstruction. Plan to start SQ fluids at 30ml/kg, give Cerenia, monitor. If no improvement by 6PM, transfer to PASE for monitoring overnight. Promote urgently to rescue, ok to leave on stray hold. 12/13 Triage Exam: Body Condition Score: 4 - Lean Temperature: 102°F Heart rate: 84 bpm Respiratory rate: 24 bpm Mm color: Bright Red Mm touch: Dry (tacky) Crt: >2 Hydration: Dehydrated (
