Story
**ACCT has a large dog rescue incentive going for dogs over 40lbs tagged by January 28th, and Hermes is eligible! He will have a grant of $750 go to the rescue partner that takes him** Hermes ACCT-A-239605 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Hermes must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER, FOSTER, or RESCUE PARTNER by SATURDAY, JANUARY 17th by 10:00 am. Should Hermes’ medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging an animal. Meet Hermes who came to ACCT Philly as a stray. From the very beginning, he showed what a steady, well-mannered boy he is. Remaining calm during intake, allowing staff to leash him easily, and walking nicely alongside his handler. In the shelter, Hermes continues to show off his gentle and easygoing nature. He is consistently easy to leash, walks politely on leash, and takes treats with exceptional gentleness. While he can be aloof and independent, he enjoys respectful interactions and shows sweet flashes of affection; sometimes hopping up briefly for attention before happily bouncing away. He appreciates pets on his own terms and seems especially fond of chest scritches. Hermes has done well with other dogs at the shelter and has demonstrated calm, appropriate social skills. He did have one dog interaction that was not positive, however he recovered quickly from the interaction and had appropriate play afterwards. He greets politely, maintains a soft and loose body, and enjoys relaxed parallel walking without pressure to engage in play, though he has shown playful moments and interest in toys. Overall, Hermes is a boy who would thrive in a home that appreciates a mellow, thoughtful companion who doesn’t demand constant attention but enjoys a meaningful and gentle connection. Hermes is a handsome, sweet boy with good leash manners, polite social skills, and a quiet charming personality that really shines once you spend time with him. If Hermes sounds like the total package then come to the shelter to meet him today! BEHAVIOR NOTES: Walksheet notes: - 12/23 per staff: Super Sweet boy. Story
Iceberg was brought to ACCT Philly on December 28, 2025 after police observed him abandoned on a highway. This young husky was found alone, with no owner information available, and was transported safely to the shelter. Upon intake, Iceberg appeared lethargic and was quickly sent for further medical care to ensure he received the support he needed. Since arriving at the shelter, Iceberg has shown himself to be a gentle and sweet dog who is still adjusting to the kennel environment. He can be nervous and somewhat fearful in his kennel, especially with transitions like doorways, but he warms up quickly once out and about. Outside of the kennel, Iceberg’s friendly personality shines through—he enjoys affection, seeks out gentle pets and butt rubs, and has been described as very easy to handle despite his size. He has shown playful, bouncy energy when meeting other dogs and continues to build confidence with positive experiences and kind handling. 📽️Videos Met pepper jack: loose, bouncy and playful: https://youtube.com/shorts/mFcGz_XmYiQ?si=WlVFfGYXw8KjU38r ⭐Behavioral Notes Per volunteer 1/4: I had iceberg out for the photoshoot on 1/4. Iceberg was very easy to leash and get out of kennel. He is friendly and sweet when out of kennel and in the runs- trying to solicit affection and butt rubs. Despite his size he is very gentle. 01/03/2026 per staff Fearful in kennel, sitting in the back and would not come to the front door but easily leashed when I used the back door of the kennel. He was nervous walking through doorways on the way to the office but warmed up quickly once in the office! Approached staff with loose body, allowed handling for harnessing, and rolled on his back for belly rubs. He got right in the car for his day trip and was much more confident just 5-10 minutes after leaving the kennel! 01/01/2026 per staff Somewhat fearful going in and out of kennel. *ACCT has a large dog rescue incentive going for dogs over 40lbs tagged by January 28th, and Duke is eligible! He will have a grant of $750 go to the rescue partner that takes him* Duke (ACCT-A-107662) is a 4-year-old Husky who first came to ACCT Philly as a stray in January 2022 and quickly reclaimed by his owner. Duke was later surrendered to the shelter in December 2025 when his owner could no longer care for him due to serious health challenges. Duke is a classic husky personality - intelligent, social, affectionate, and full of enthusiasm for life! He loves attention from people and happily leans in for pets, belly rubs, and affection. In the shelter, Duke has shown himself to be very friendly and engaging with handlers, taking treats gently and allowing all handling. He is easy to leash, walks reasonably well (with some pulling), and enjoys exploring new environments. Duke has demonstrated loose, wiggly body language when meeting other dogs and is considered dog social, though he can be a bit over-the-top with excitement at first. He is food motivated, eager to interact, and benefits from a calm, “less is more” approach when he’s feeling nervous in new situations. His previous owners noted that he should not live with cats, as he has shown a prey drive and will try to chase them. Overall, Duke is a loving, people-oriented dog who will thrive with structure, regular exercise, and continued positive engagement! He's at ACCT Philly waiting for the perfect family to find him. Took a treat gently through the bars. Leash Skills: Easy to leash and mildly pulled on the leash. Sociability: Very social! Leaned into all handling even laid down and let me give some belly rubs. Play: Was not interested in the toys but was bouncing around the eval room. Dog Interaction: When outside he saw multiple dogs he became excited, doing some husky vocalization and had a loose body. Then met Tilly Holly on the leash in the eval room, he remained loose and wiggly but a little over the top meeting her. Return to Kennel: Walked right into kennel. No issues unleashing Color Level: Gold Owner Notes 2/2025 Please describe your pet's personality. Duke being a husky is very warm and friendly. He loves attention from people whether that rubbing him or playing with him. He is very obedient and respectful. Obi and Coco are alot a like. Considering they are guard dogs they like to sniff and feel you out before they go soft on you. They too love attention and treats. What are the best things about your animal? All three of the dogs have their own personalities but the most precious thing about thing about them would be how they are connected with those around them. They are all very loving when you hurt they hurt and they just want to cheer you up instantly. They have a basic understanding of protecting you but without being aggressive. Duke is a protector as well but in his own way, he likes affection from whoever is giving it. 📃 MEDICAL Weight 48 lbs 12/27/2025 Tech Exam 12/27/2025 | 1:05 pm – Completed Body Condition Score 4 - Lean Assessment Microchip Found? Story
Behavior Notes: Per saff 1/7/26: Took Sneezy out with a volunteer for training. She was easy to leash and lead out of kennel. She pulled lightly on leash, but it was manageable. She went to the bathroom outside and she explored the yard once we entered it. She was super interested in other dogs and would play bow and jump up to interact with them. She sat very nicely for treats and took possession of them gently but did not eat them. She would allow light touching, but did not seem interested in being pet. Easy to return to kennel. Per staff 1/7/26: Kennel Presentation: At the front of her kennel with soft eyes, ears forward, and tail down. She took a treat gently through the bars. Leash Skills: Easy to leash, pulled mildly through the kennels. Once outside she immediately went to the bathroom. Kept her nose to the ground almost all of the time we were walking. Sociability: She is more aloof. I was able to pet all over, she just stood there. She did not move away but did not solicit attention from me. She knows sit and takes treats gently Play: got excited over a squeaky toy and chased after it but did not play with it. Dog Interaction: Saw a dog walking in the yard, became excited and pulled towards them. Easy to move away from them. When we were in the pen a dog walked by and she calmly went to the fence following him and sniffing. Return to Kennel: Stopped half way through the kennels made a kissy noise and said "come on" in a high pitch voice . She continued to walk and went right into kennel without issue. Story
Sir Charles is happy, loving and playful 1 to 2 yr old boy. He is mostly quiet, but will “talk” or get mouthy when he wants something to eat, play or go out. Sir Charles adores people, both big and small. He just wants to shower people with affection and be loved. When it comes to other dogs, Sir Charles is not a fan. No cats or small animals for Sir Charles. He would do best as the only pet in the home. Sir Charles is housebroken. He is crate trained and likes to lounge in his crate. When it comes to toys, Sir Charles is all in! Plush squeekie toys keep his entertained, he plays nicely with toys and doesn’t tear them up. He loves to play fetch outdoors and indoors. Sir Charles will retrieve as long as you are willing to toss a toy. Sir Charles enjoys going on walks and playtime in the yard. This active boy will benefit from a Husky savvy family as he needs continued training as he will pull on leash when he sees dogs and wildlife. Sir Charles has shown improvement with his leash training Before Sir Charles came into rescue, he was suspected of being hit by a car so it’s no surprise that he gets skittish with loud noises, trucks, loud cars etc. However, he is not bothered by fireworks or thunder when he is in the house. Charles is comical and will keep you laughing, he likes to try to climb trees to catch squirrels. This loving boy thinks he is a lap dog and enjoys a snuggle with his family. Sir Charles has so much to give and so much potential. With the right family, the best is yet to be! Sir Charles’ Back Story When found, this brave boy was suspected of being hit by a car. He managed to drag himself to safety before collapsing in someone’s yard. Animal Control brought Charles to a shelter where he was examined by the staff veterinarian, but his injuries were traumatic so he was transported to an emergency hospital where he could receive the critical care he needed. After diagnostic testing, Charles' prognosis was guarded He had multiple issues including pneumothorax (a large volume of air in his chest cavity), a degloving injury (severe separation of tissue separated from muscle) to his lower lip, broken teeth, several lacerations on his body and a small foreign body in his stomach (unrelated to his recent trauma) Immediately, he underwent a chest tap to remove the air from his chest, was put on pain medication and stabilized on a chest tube. While in the hospital, Charles’ sweet nature endeared him to the staff. Despite his condition, he tolerated all the procedures and exams with no issue. His love of people compelled him to try to give kisses even when his injured mouth was causing him pain! Within a few days this resilient boy made great strides towards recovery and was able to be discharged from the hospital. Thanks to a wonderful, experienced DVSHR foster family who offered to welcome Charles into their home, we were able to take Charles into rescue. Sir Charles underwent further surgery to remove the foreign body in his stomach. Surprisingly, the veterinarian found and removed a rock AND a piece of glass! Charles made a full recovery and is doing well. Interested in adopting? Visit our website today at www.siberianhuskyrescue.org and complete an adoption application.
