Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $700   Twix is a 1 year old purebred Chocolate Labrador Retriever who was rescued from the shelter. This gorgeous chocolate brown dude weighs 70 pounds and is just as perfect as can be! Twix was surrendered to the shelter because he “got too big” (even though he is a normal sized lab)! We sprung him out of his kennel and promised him a sugary sweet forever family ahead!  Now, like any young Lab, Twix is active and energetic. He needs a home that is prepared for his energy. Labs are puppies in adult bodies at least until they are 3 but let's get real, it's more like 4-5 years old. Now, he's a bundle of fun for sure. He just needs activities. Are you up for playdates? Dog beach? Dog parks? Running buddy? Teaching him to fetch and throwing that ball until he's exhausted. Do you know working with a dog on basic obedience 10-15 minutes a day is equivalent to an hour of exercise? Exercising their brain, exhausts their body!   Below is a note from Twix’s foster.  “Twix is a goofy, friendly, gorgeous, and all around awesome lab! He is the best of the breed for those who love them. Looking for a hiking or running buddy? Twix is waiting with his leash at the door! Looking for a cuddle buddy/weighted blanket after a day of adventures? Twix is waiting on the couch for you to bring the snacks! Twix is super smart and has already learned a few tricks. What a good boy! He is very food motivated and has shown an eagerness to learn alongside his foster brothers. Twix will be your best and most loyal friend if you adopt him, and with a face as cute as his, how could you resist?  Twix wakes up around 7 AM and goes outside to potty. He sniffs around for a bit as he checks out his turf before coming inside for breakfast. After his morning meal, he takes a short nap before his morning walk. After his walk, he naps and spends time playing with his foster brothers. He spends his afternoon snoozing the day away, occasionally getting up to play with his mountain of toys. He gets dinner at 5 PM and then gets another long walk. He heads to bed at 10 PM and gets ready for another day of adventure ahead!  Twix loves his walks and adores the outdoors. Like a typical lab, he has a lot of energy to burn, so an active family would be a perfect fit for him. Twix would do well in an active home to ensure he goes to bed a tired and happy dog. He would love to join a home where he can integrate into family activities. Twix is being fostered with a large breed younger dog as well as small puppies. He plays well with them all. This dude can’t wait to make his forever home the luckiest home in the world once they adopt him.”   Twix is an option for a home that has dog experience and a large breed dog experience is a bonus. Interested homes must demonstrate a plan and commitment for continued training to ensure Twix continues maturing into the awesome boy he has shown himself to be. Kids in the home should be over the age of 8.April 12, 2024, 10:21 pm

Story
We adopted her as a puppy from Friends of Madera Animal Shelter. She is three years old and has a lot of energy. She loves long walks and hikes and mellows out really well after exercise. She is very happy and loving and just wants lots of love in return. She is definitely trainable and had been at one point but we fell out of regular training and she picked up bad habits of not listening, leash and territory aggression (toward other dogs, not toward people) but has shown great promise in just a couple training sessions. We have two children (ages 6 and 9) who she loves dearly but needs guidance on how to appropriately play with young children (lots of jumping on them and can be mouthy to show joy). We are looking for a new home for her because the training, exercise, regular care and costs fall on one person in the household and this is no longer sustainable. We love her but she is not living her best life in our home and deserves more attention and training from a new home.

Story
Dolly, spayed female, 3y-5-m-old, 44-lbs If you would like to give DOLLY a forever home, please contact abetterchancerescue@gmail.com OR log onto abetterchancerescue.org to fill out online application Dolly has an easy-going temperament, very playful and lively. She loves people and is sociable around other dogs and stays calm when meeting cats. She is potty trained and crate trained to sleep overnight; not a chewer or barker. Dolly is most suitable for an outdoor loving family, and/or as an addition to family with dog. Dolly’s rescue story: Driving home during a stormy night, the rescuer spotted a dark moving object in-between the traffic lanes. When she stopped her car to check it out, she found Dolly moving toward her slowly, wagging her tail. She didn’t seem injured but apparently had difficulty moving. Dolly followed the rescuer to her car and off to the hospital they went. The doctor’s diagnostic was that Dolly simply suffered from starvation. Under the care of her foster family, Dolly regained her hearth and received proper training. But being a dog with black color coat has hardly any chance to be adopted by local people. Hopefully Dolly can start her new life aboard.
