Story
A portion of Moana's s adoption fee has been sponsored by her friends at The Murray Fund. The adoption fee sponsorship credit of $400.00 will be applied during the contract process Hi! My name is Moana and I am an owner surrender. This special needs beautiful little girl has made wonderful strides in the 2 months that I've had her. She's getting stronger bit by bit. She is personality plus! She loves to snuggle, loves to play and just gets sooo very excited when you talk to her, get down on the floor to play with her and if the big resident dogs are even just near her. She has a feisty side, too, and does not like to be left out of anything!! She is making great progress in potty training and she'll usually vocally alert you-day or night- when she has to go...but know that she'll still have some accidents. At this point, she doesn't have the coordination to be upright to eat on her own so I still hold her securely in my lap to feed her several small meals a day and also to keep her hydrated (I soak her kibble and still give her some soft food. She will not drink straight water so we are still working on that and by soaking her kibble, it flavors the water and she'll drink it to get to the kibble.) She loves all people and dogs. She hasn't had contact with cats yet that I know of. She'll need flat, safe surfaces when she's in her wheels. She does best on carpets or rugs or grass when upright in her harness to practice balance, strength and walking. She'll need to continue strengthening her muscles and working on her balance. At this point, she cannot get up from the floor on her own. Once she's on her side, she can only move around by scratching/shuffling. She does great for car rides. She sleeps nicely in her soft sided kennel at night, only alerting me by whimpering once or twice per night that she has to go out to potty. She is one of the happiest pups that I've ever fostered and will give her forever family sooooo much love!! From the vet team: Hello! I arrived at Secondhand Hounds as part of the Fighter Fund program due to my Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH) diagnosis. CH is a condition resulting from inadequate development of the cerebellum which causes lack of balance/coordination, ambulating, head bobbing, tremors, etc. The SHH Vet Team has provided my foster with physical therapy exercises to help gain strength but I will always have this condition. I have a wheel chair and a harness to help with movement but it is also recommended that my future adopter lay down rubber mats to help with my movement. My future adopter should understand my condition and monitor my health with a primary veterinarian. Also, I have an upcoming surgery with an opthamologist due to ablation of eyelashes which will freeze and kill the hair follicles to help prevent regrowth of these abnormal hairs. This surgery and eye recheck appointment will be covered by SHH as long as it is performed at Animal Eye Speciality Center/Secondhand Hounds Vet Center.

Story
I am Keno. I am from Missouri. From the foster: Keno is timid, sweet and docile. He loves friendly dogs and stays near our resident dog like Velcro, but he is very shy with people. He will do best in a home with another friendly, confident dog to help him gain confidence and patient adopters who are willing to help him continue learning to trust. We are working on house training. Keno is an active boy who does well on leash and enjoys his daily walks, as well as running around in a fenced yard. He recently joined our rescue and still requires a harness and leash when outside in the yard, as he will rarely come inside on his own. We are working on making people less scary to him. Keno is 7.5 years old and has a heart murmur. He shows no sign of it slowing him down. He's an energetic boy. Medical Bio: "Hi! I'm Keno, my foster mom said the vet told her I have a heart murmur that they graded 3/6. X-rays did not show any signs of heart failure which is great news. The cardiologist report concluded normal heart size and a good prognosis even with the murmur. My adopters should plan on check ups every 6-12 months to monitor this going forward. Overall I am healthy and clear to be adopted and proceed with the dental procedure that I need in a few months. The vet will use heart safe anesthetic protocols to make sure everything goes smoothly. At my exam I was also treated for an ear infection and started on a weight loss plan which my future family should continue to make sure I can have a well lived and long life! The Bond Between will cover medical expenses for the dental and an upcoming ear recheck to make sure my infection was cleared. I can't wait to meet you and settle into my furever home!"

Hi! My name is Rocky and I am from a shelter in Arkansas. From my foster : Rocky is a super sweet, cuddly, goofy little guy! He loves everyone he meets and he steals hearts very easily! He knows basic commands, but is still working on being more polite. He is very trainable with treats! He does great in his kennel overnight. He is the best little buddy and can't wait to find his furever home!! He loves playing with our resident dog and would do great with another dog in the home. He also is an A+ superstar at doggy daycare! He does need a home that can give him great structure as he has a compulsion for water and tends to urinate a lot. We measure his water intake daily to control his urine output. Frequent scheduled potty breaks through out the day works well for him. From the Vet: Hi! My name is Rocky and I am on the lookout for a special furever home with an active and consistent routine! I have been struggling with a lot of overactive and compulsive need to be drinking water causing increased urination. The Bond Between vets have completed several tests to make sure that I am otherwise healthy particularly in regards to my urine/kidney health. No abnormalities were found on my test results therefore the vet believes this increased thirst and urination is due to a behavioral cause. Environmental enrichment and lots of activities like exercise, play time, training etc. will be crucial to my success in my new home! During one of my appointments the vet drained a mass on my side, however since then the cytology of the mass showed no concern and the mass has not grown in size. My adopters should monitor for this and any other masses that may occur in the future and consult a primary care veterinarian for further guidance on my care.

Story
Lou Lou is a people-lover through and through. She adores being by your side, even in the car, where she's a fantastic passenger. Once she's buckled in, she'll happily settle down in the back seat for a nap. She's not too interested in playing with my two larger, 60+ lb resident dogs, but she's very comfortable sharing space with them and even napping in the same room. Lou Lou is adjusting to her kennel and may bark or whine for a few minutes at night before settling down, but after that, she sleeps soundly until morning. We're currently working on her potty training, and she's doing great, giving clear signals when she needs to go outside. She can also hold it all night in her kennel without any accidents. Medical note: Lou Lou was found as a stray in a severely emaciated state, so she's on a refeeding plan. We're thrilled to report consistent weight gain, and once she reaches her ideal weight, she'll be scheduled for spaying, and her adoption can be finalized.

Story
If you are looking for a dog who will be your most loyal companion with striking good looks and the best puppy eyes ever ....you’ve found her!  Meet Jessica – your typical Australian Shepherd who has a zest for life! However, Jessica is not your average family dog.  Due to her high level of intelligence and energy she needs adequate physical and mental stimulation.  Although Aussie’s enjoy being outside, hours alone in the yard isn’t going to cut it for this girl.  This breed is always looking for a “job” to do:  puzzle games, dock diving, Frisbee, agility training, or fly ball are a few activities Jessica would excel in.  She would be a great biking or jogging partner for an athletic individual.  Even an active game of fetch or a great running session with another canine companion would give her the opportunity to get those zoomies out. Any variety of these activities on a daily basis is going to keep Jessica a happy pup!  Jessica comes to you house and crate trained, walks well on a leash, is well-behaved during car rides, is not vocally reactive (although she may let out the occasional “awooo!” as she’s heading out the door for her morning potty break).   She is also command trained:  she knows "sit", "down", “off”, “all done” and more! With all this talk about Jessica’s energy, she does have a quiet side to her.  She is a sensitive girl and will look to you for reassurance, if she’s feeling apprehensive.  She knows her bedtime and will cue you around 7:30 PM that she’s tired and ready….are you?  But no blankets at bedtime for Miss Jessica as she’s proven she can’t resist chewing on her binkies.  Oops! Due to Jessica’s high energy needs, below is a wish list for her forever home: Must have experience with high-energy breeds or at a minimum have a deep understanding of dog behavior.  This goes beyond being a previous dog owner. Must have the ability to be the alpha in the dog/owner relationship.  Herding and high-energy dogs need someone who can offer appropriate redirection when necessary. It is important that her forever home understand her needs for daily mental enrichment and physical activity.  Jessica needs to be in an active household – camping, hiking, agility training, going to kids sports games, family outings, Treibball, puzzle games.  Jessica tends to show her affection by making a beeline for ears and giving love nibbles (this is a work in progress - apparently her foster’s ears are very delicious), so at this time we would recommend a household with children over 11 years old.  Cats are unknown, but she seems to have a low prey drive.         ##1954343##

Story
Hello to my future family! My name is Homelander, part of “The Boys” Litter at the Rescue Crew. My momma had us while a stray…outside in the cold up north. But, after a few days, we were transported to the Twin Cities had had a great setup for the start of our lives. My foster home had so many dogs, and it was a great socialization experience for me. I loved the resident dogs My mom was also there for a while, and also a bunch of puppies from another litter. We all got along really well…one big happy doghouse family. I recently moved to another foster home so that my first foster mom could have a few less puppies on her hands! In my newer foster home, I absolutely love the resident dog, a 3-year old female who is about my size. She doesn’t always want to play with me, and I’m good at leaving her alone when she lets me know that she wants some space. There are also cats in this home, and I’m pretty uninterested in them and don’t bother them at all. For a puppy, I’m a really calm dude. I sleep through the night in my kennel and don’t make a peep until the morning when I need to go potty. I go right into my kennel when my foster mom tells me to, and then she gives me a treat for being a good boy. I’m always excited for food and foster mom says I am a great eater (not picky at all)! I also LOVE treats – I sit for them and will be easy to train as I am very motivated by edible rewards! Potty training is going well. While I occasionally have accidents inside (I’m still a baby!), I do want to go outside and am very good on a schedule. I typically only have accidents when my mom doesn’t stick to our routine. I love toys, especially the squeaky or crinkly ones. Foster mom say I would be great at being a lazy dog who sometimes likes to go on long hikes. I am going to be a big boy when I grow up, and am a very sweet, cuddly, and happy pup. When my foster mom works from home, I sleep at her feet under her desk. If she’s watching tv, I’m either playing with the other dog in the same room, or hanging on the couch next to her for pets. I am a LOVER and like to be near my person/people. We go on lots of walks, and I’m learning leash manners. Are you the family for me? Maybe you have a big dog who needs a dog friend? Or maybe you just want the ultimate cuddler. I have the cutest, chunkiest face…and who wouldn’t love that?! I would do great with any family, with or without kids, with or without other dogs. I am totally ok being the only dog…because I love the attention and the calmness!! Fill out an app to meet me…you won’t be disappointed! ##1943949##
