Story
A portion of Moana's s adoption fee has been sponsored by her friends at The Murray Fund. The adoption fee sponsorship credit of $400.00 will be applied during the contract process Hi! My name is Moana and I am an owner surrender. This beautiful, special needs little girl would love to be your new lap buddy. She's typically a mellow girl but she can sometimes have a feisty side, too-She wants to be near her people and whatever activities are happening! She is very social and absolutely loves people! She loves to snuggle (her very favoritest thing!), loves to play and gets sooooo excited when you talk to her, pet her, or get down on the floor to play with her- whether she's in her wheelchair, playing in her harness attached to a converted Johnny jump up or in your lap while playing with other dogs or kids. She'll need flat, safe surfaces when she's in her wheelchair. She has been exposed to cats once when visiting a friends' house and was curious but non reactive. She will bark if startled or sometimes when she hears another dog bark but settles pretty quickly. My neighborhood has lots of dogs with lots of barking but she's usually non reactive to it. She is potty trained on a schedule and will alert you by getting super active and may whine when she has to go out potty at other times. She sleeps through the night without accidents. She will still have occasional accidents, if she gets super excited (and I'm missing her cues) and sometimes when left alone for extended periods while you're out. I have a safe pen area for her to be in for when I need to go out. Because of her CH, she cannot get up off the floor or sustain walking on her own without assistance. She uses a vest harness with long handles that you use to help her "walk around and go potty. I converted a Johnny jump up and attach her harness to that for playtime on a mat. She has her own wheelchair to get around some. If laying down on the floor, she will "scoot around using her legs to get to where she wants to be (which is wherever you are). She loves to go on walks in her doggy stroller! She enjoys car rides and is often my copilot when I run errands. She is water averse so I feed her 3 times a day with soaked kibble in water or broth along with some wet food mixed in to make sure she gets adequate hydration. She'll drink the flavorful fluids in her bowl to get to the food. I hold her upright in my arms to feed her, then snuggle her after meals. Because she loves her people (and is dependent on them) she does have separation anxiety which is managed nicely with medications. This special little girl needs someone who is home a majority of the time and wants a sweet little snuggle buddy. From the vet team: Hello! I arrived at The Bond Between as part of the Fighter Fund program due to my Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH) diagnosis. CH is a condition resulting from inadequate development of the cerebellum which causes lack of balance/coordination, ambulation, head bobbing, tremors, etc. The vet team has provided my foster with physical therapy exercises to help me gain strength but I will always have this condition. I have a wheelchair and a harness to help with movement but it is also recommended that my future adopter lay down rubber mats to help with my movement. My future adopter should understand my condition and monitor my health with a primary veterinarian. I had an eyelash surgery a few months ago to make sure my eyes were not getting infected, but everything has been completed and I do not have any other health issues.

Hi! My name is Rocky and I am from a shelter in Arkansas. From my foster : Rocky is a super sweet, cuddly, goofy little guy! He loves everyone he meets and he steals hearts very easily! He knows basic commands, but is still working on being more polite. He is very trainable with treats! He does great in his kennel overnight. He is the best little buddy and can't wait to find his furever home!! He loves playing with our resident dog and would do great with another dog in the home. He also is an A+ superstar at doggy daycare! He does need a home that can give him great structure as he has a compulsion for water and tends to urinate a lot. We measure his water intake daily to control his urine output. Frequent scheduled potty breaks through out the day works well for him. From the Vet: Hi! My name is Rocky and I am on the lookout for a special furever home with an active and consistent routine! I have been struggling with a lot of overactive and compulsive need to be drinking water causing increased urination. The Bond Between vets have completed several tests to make sure that I am otherwise healthy particularly in regards to my urine/kidney health. No abnormalities were found on my test results therefore the vet believes this increased thirst and urination is due to a behavioral cause. Environmental enrichment and lots of activities like exercise, play time, training etc. will be crucial to my success in my new home! During one of my appointments the vet drained a mass on my side, however since then the cytology of the mass showed no concern and the mass has not grown in size. My adopters should monitor for this and any other masses that may occur in the future and consult a primary care veterinarian for further guidance on my care.

Hi, my name is Lou Lou. I am from Minnesota. Found as a severely emaciated stray in Minneapolis, Lou Lou has made an incredible recovery and is now ready to find her forever home. Lou Lou adores people and is always eager to make new friends. However, she's still learning not to jump, so a family willing to work on this with her would be ideal. Lou Lou is a playful soul who absolutely loves squeaker and crinkle toys. She would make an excellent walking or running buddy, as she loves to be outside with you. One of Lou Lou's best qualities is her ability to get along with other dogs, both big and small. She loves to play and is always up for a good romp in the yard or a playdate at the park. Lou Lou is also a cuddle bug and enjoys nothing more than snuggling up with her human companions. Lou Lou is crate trained and sleeps well in her crate. She also understands that outside is the place to potty, although she may need more frequent potty breaks due to her history of severe emaciation, we are already seeing an increase in how long she can hold it though so this should continue to improve. If you're looking for a loving, energetic, and resilient companion, Lou Lou could be the perfect match for you. Come meet this special girl and give her the loving home she deserves! Special Note: Lou Lou has a keen nose for food due to not having enough as a stray and may attempt to counter surf or dig in the trash if she smells something delicious. It's important to secure food and trash bins to prevent any food-related escapades!

Story
Hi! I'm Moses! I'm from Missouri. PUPDATE FROM FOSTER: Moses is very sweet and playful. He's kennel-trained & has mostly been using pee pads for pottying when he goes in the house. Each time I've taken him outside to potty though, he squats almost immediately and pees. He's definitely had a little training, both inside & outside. He's easy to have around. He's quiet most of the time. I've now heard him give a big-boy bark just twice. Once was for... I have no idea. And once was when he was startled by a noise (I think?). He loves my dogs & reallllly wants to play with them. Moses is working on feeling less afraid when I have to reach for him to get him out of his kennel. He's loving treats as well as a fun toy or two that I'll use to lure him closer to the door of the kennel, and then eventually out into the world to play, or to be cuddled. In the evening, he loves to be held while we watch TV, and he loves to be as close to the other dogs as they will allow. I'd love him to have a little more freedom to play & be silly, and to not be at risk of being chased by the one dog who's just not havin' it. Moses is highly portable , at about 11#, and loves to be included in any not-too-scary adventures you're having. Previous Update: Moses is 10-15#, 5 month old mini Australian Shepherd mix. He is an adorable, silly little guy who is learning and experiencing lots of new things. He takes a few days to warm up to humans, but loves dogs. He now loves to be held, but it still takes a little bit of work to get him to come out of his kennel so you can pick him up. Moses has done better with a harness than with a leash attached to a collar, but all of those are still new to him, and cause him to leap and pull away. On a few trips out into my yard, he tried to melt into the side of my house or shed, very afraid of the leas and the world out there. He liked sniffing the air and looking all around. He is sad and vocal when both his humans and resident dogs leave the room. He does not like to be alone and will try to get out of his exercise pen. Moses will be OK with considerate, quieter, gentle kids who will enjoy holding and snuggling with him. Any resident dogs should be tolerant and gentle. Moses lacks social skills and has no awareness of how much is too much. He jumps all over any dog he's interested in and doesn't pick up on cues to back off. I think he might enjoy play once he figures it out! He's got a great play-bow and full-body crawl/drag across the floor to get near you. He is good in a crate and goes in easily. It's his safe space. He is working on potty training and is familiar with pee pads. He is a good eater and is learning what treats are all about. He has accidentally squeaked a couple of toys and thought they were pretty fun. He sleeps in his crate at night with his teddy bear. He will cry to be let out to go potty, anywhere from zero to two times during the night. He does best if his crate is in the room with you, and on the bed next to you if possible. He's a very sweet boy and he's ready to learn so much!

Story
Kiki and Kitsune, named after the animals we resembled when we were saved. Kiki after a coyote name, I mean... look at my ears :) And Kitsune is a fox name, I looked like a little fox when I was saved!! Us girls are sweet and loving and happy with people we know, but you can't blame us for being nervous with new people- we were found abandoned in a field in the deep valley of TX with our dead mother and siblings in a trash bag with us........................ So yes, we are nervous with new people but honestly- new people are only new for a day or two- then you are OUR peeps!! We do not have to be adopted together, but our story is the same so we will share it together... We came to the rescue absolutely petrified but geez, our foster mama was so nice and fed us wonderful food and we were loving on her quickly. So glad to be safe, fed and loved! Now we are preparing for our families and that must be you! We are both gorgeous girls, Kitsune has grown to almost her sister's size, so both are looking to be large full grown pups. Local adoption only so they can meet your families and you can get to know them too! ADOPT...DON'T SHOP!!! SO MANY LIVES DEPEND ON IT!! Local adoption is $250 each (in TX)

Story
Five Great Lakes and Five Great Puppies! Hi, I'm Huron. I'm a wonderful mix of Australian Shepherd/German Shorthaired Pointer/Blue Heeler. My siblings and I arrived here a bit skinny, but the kind folks have been filling our tummies with yummy food. I'm a bit shy, but once I get to know you, I'll be your best friend. I love cuddles and naps, and I'm told I give the best puppy kisses. I'm still learning about the world, but I'm eager to explore and play. Adopting me means endless love, snuggles, and a loyal friend for life. I promise to bring joy and happiness to your home. Will you be my forever family? If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to request an appointment to meet me. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and Minneapolis, MN areas at least monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual and we will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. ##2008749##
